because my journal is friends-only

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
i go to school in australia so the semester periods are a little different, but yes, i am at uni this semester.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
undergraduate

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
no. i love my holidays. uni is stressful!

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
i'm five weeks into the semester and i still haven't gone shopping for my exercise books, lmao. i enjoy buying stationary but i don't enjoy spending hundreds on textbooks.

5. Are/were you a good student?
i'm reasonable. i get my things (even if it's always last minute) and i don't disrupt other people from learning.

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
No, and I haven't been to school of any kind since the late 90s, call it '98 or so.
Well, unless you count martial arts classes, in which case it's a trifle more recent...and in, earlier tonight.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
Again, unless you count martial arts, the answer was no.

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
I want to continue my education; I DON'T want to do it in a school setting. I am SO not a classroom-and-books kinna student. I learn by doing, by activity and application, not by study; if it isn't useful and interesting, I'm simply unable to retain it.
I'm quite fond of telling that story about how I had a math teacher who gave us an assignment sheet and all classtime to do our work, with her up at her desk to get individual instruction if we were ever stuck or confused...I finished the textbook and got halfway through the next one before the year was out; there weren't enough pluses to put on my A. I do better when I'm teaching myself, with a mentor to help me out when I become confused, than I ever will in a classroom with lectures.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Naw; it was always more of a burden than anything else. What will I need? How am I supposed to know; I don't know what classes I'll be taking or what they'll require of me! At best, I'm guessing what supplies I'll need.
And there was always that thought in the back of my head: vacation is over, fun is over, much of my time will now be spoken for by things I'd really rather not be doing. This sucks.
So, no...I never cared for back-to-school shopping.

5. Are/were you a good student?
Depends entirely on the teacher and the subject, but in general...no. Between ADD, ADHD, and an almost complete lack on interest in whatever they tried to teach me, I did pretty lousy in school, and I just generally didn't want to be there.
School is not designed for people like me; I'm not stupid, I just have a radically different learning style which was not catered to when I was that age. Nowadays, it kinna is, though; I know kids today who are just like me when I was that age who are excelling in alternative learning programs. And I find that now I am able--even eager--to learn things that, in school, were taught so as to leech all possible passion out of grokking them. But I am learning, seeking knowledge, entirely on my own...and that makes a lot of the difference. I choose what I learn, I learn at my own pace, and I make sure that there is fun and entertainment to be had in the process. If school had had more of that...but it didn't. Alas.

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
No—I have completed my undergraduate and have not yet started graduate school.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
If no...then what?

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
I really enjoy school, but I am also enjoying not being in school. I think each has different appeal.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
I never really did 'back to school shopping'. When I need something, I buy it. I never saw the need to get much of anything except notebook paper and notebooks. Somehow I never had enough of those and I *suppose* I enjoyed buying them.

5. Are/were you a good student?
If by good student, you mean did I do well, impress my teachers and graduate, then yes. However I was also always at least 10 minutes late for class, and almost didn't graduate on account of almost failing an upper level French class because I was a complete ass to the teacher...so there was that too...

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?

NOPE! I am post college, although not a grad. I was in and out of college over the span of 8 years and have about 3 full years of classes done. However, my grades sucked so that's a different story. I quit because I got really sick my last semester and could no longer burn the candle at both ends and the middle. have no regrets about quitting sans degree.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?

n/a

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?

nope, but that's because I had a learning disability as a kid, so the thought of dealing with another year of struggling in school wasn't something I looked forward to.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?

no. It was always such a pain in the rear.

5. Are/were you a good student?

Until I was in 5th grade, no. But half way through the school year I was put back to 4th and finished the year out that way. The next year I was tested and found I had a learning disability. Keep in mind this was back in the mid 80s, they didn't prescreen kids for LDs back then. which is why it went undetected for so many years. Once they found out what was wrong with me, my grades improved and I graduated both 8th grade and high school at the top 3rd of my class. Was in the who's who among america's high school students all 3 years of high school. I graduated high school in 3 years.

College was a different story. Since I had to work to put myself through school, I wasn't able to focus on school and my grades tanked pretty much once I set foot on all of my college campuses. (went to 4 colleges).

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed? Yes. It's my senior year of university, and it's already begun. Scary. O.o.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)? Undergraduate. I'll be going out into the work force after this, so this is it-- for a while, at least.

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school? Yes. I like the routine school entails, and I do enjoy learning, even if some teachers haven't always made it fun. It's been even more enjoyable returning to school each year in college, because I get to see my friends again after three or four months.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not? I've always liked it. I like fresh notebooks and pencils, etc-- starting off all clean and organized. I'm generally a pretty organized person, but it's great to start again from ground zero from time to time, and the beginning of the school year is the perfect time to do it. Not a big fan of buying exorbitantly priced textbooks, however /-:

5. Are/were you a good student? I think I can say yes. On paper, I made Honor Roll consistently in elementary, middle, and high school, was in Honors and AP classes and made As and Bs in them, and have a 3.6 GPA at my university and am writing an honors thesis. (So let's hope the GPA stays up there, lol). And I work hard for that; school is my biggest priority and I am a perfectionist about my work and anal about organizing my time. (I have in fact never pulled an all-nighter. I consider this a great accomplishment in time management ^_^). Though, um, clearly I am prone to LJ slacking. It is perhaps my biggest procrastination vice. (This is why I don't have a 4.0? Lol).

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
Nope. I completed my second year of undergrad in May 2004

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
n/a

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
Kinda. I don't think I want to go back. I debate it but it's never come out on the decision of really going back seriously

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Sometimes. Once I had to buy textbooks and only "new" was available it kinda sucked

5. Are/were you a good student?
Yup, but I lost some of that after my accidents, which was why I had to leave

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
No, unfortunately. I've already got my BA and a ton of debt.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
If I were to go back, it would be a Masters' program

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
I love it and I'm sad to not be participating

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Yes! I am such a nerd. I loved getting new notebooks and putting it all in my backpack

5. Are/were you a good student?
Overall, I was. There were a couple classes I hated and didn't pay attention, but I was on the Dean's List for 2 years.

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?

No. Well, unless you count the workshops I'll be taking at the annual AMWA conference in Louisville (which, technically, you can because I'm moving toward a Core certificate).

But no "traditional" school since spring of 2006 when I received my B.A.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?

Core certificate in Editing and Writing from the AMWA. 3 credit workshops this year, probably 3 more next conference. And I might have the chance to do some at the smaller meetings in between, depending on what my place of employment says. They're paying for it after all.

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?

Yes. Granted, I piss(ed) and moan(ed) before hand, but I was usually happy to get back into the swing of things.

And, I think I do want to go to Grad school in the next five years...I'm just not sure what the hell I want to do. Still. Over 70% of me is leaning toward an MFA in Writing (be it creative or professional) or an MFA in English and Writing.

Then another part of me is thinking something like Asian studies... So, who knows.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?

Yes. I'm a notebook-slut/writing utensils slut. I think I enjoyed more the finding and purchasing of spiral/composition notebooks, binders, pens, journals and various related things moreso than I enjoyed clothes shopping.

...I still hit the stores before and after school starts to get the lowered prices on notebooks and such.

5. Are/were you a good student?

Grade wise, yes.

Granted, I didn't always pay attention in class or do the reading (especially in college) but my grades never suffered for it. Call it my ability to bullshit.

That's part of the learning when you're an English major. Though it's not all bullshit...as those many people who started out as English majors (because they thought it would be "easy") found out when they reached their second year and switched majors.

Entry here.

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
Only as a substitute teacher. I was trying to "encourage" (read: force) Aaron to start classes this fall, but he still hasn't gotten his paperwork back about financial aid yet since we started it so late. Pooh. My most recent year of school completed was the '06-'07 school year, when I got my Master's. W00t!

(PS - it still seems SUPER unreal that I have a Master's degree. I was just thinking of this while meandering around Fred Meyer the other day. I just feel like me. But with a $500 a month student loan payment.)

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
I teach K-12!

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
I did enjoy it I think. I groaned a bit in high school, and whined and stuff. But mostly I think I didn't like getting up early - but that was over after 2 years and I got late arrival all the time. I always looked forward to seeing all my friends and plays and football games and things.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Not this year. I'm in a crazy limbo state, where I don't really want to buy any new clothes, because, if I get pregnant next month... who knows how long they'll fit for? Plus, I don't really have the extra money right now to get new clothes anyway!

5. Are/were you a good student?
Generally, yeah. I had problems towards the end of high school with attendance and getting work done and things because of crap going on in my life though. I did pretty well in college - graduated cum laude from PSU and had a 4.0 for my Master's..... ain't too bad, eh!? ;)

1) Nope, i graduated from college in May 2004 and have been working damn hard since. Still I am a struggling theatre practitioner.....oh well......

2) I did college. Technical & Theatre Arts.

3) It was a love-hate relationship for me. I hate theory but love practical. And some of my lecturers were dickheads. I think now I am ready to go back to further my studies.

4) I never shopped for school. I just didn't have that much money.

5) I was a relatively good student who wasn't favoured by a certain lecturer thus her grades got lower than the ones he favoured.

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
Sadly, I'm not in school this fall. In June '07 I graduated with a MLIS. I must be a serious nerd, because I'm beginning to miss school now.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (middle school, high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
Instead of being in school myself, I'm watching my daughter navigate her freshman year in high school. That's enough for right now.

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
For years, no. It was a struggle, I wasn't a good student, and didn't fit in. I loved learning, but didn't always grasp the finer points of being a 'good' student. When I went back to finish my undergrad and then my grad degrees, something clicked and I was able to maintain a 3.8 GPA. Yes, I'm proud of that.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Today a friend called me an 'office supplies whore' so I guess that answers the question right there.

5. Are/were you a good student?
