1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it?
No, not until I was like 10-12 maybe? And it was always 5 bucks a week.

2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it?
15. I worked at Subway. My favorite part was when I didn't have to talk to anyone.

3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money?
Both. While I like to buy things, I'm very, very cheap. Once upon a time I had 100 bucks to spend on clothes for the year, and I managed to get 15 shirts and 11 pairs of jeans. OVIOUSLY I AM AWESOME.

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them?
The only people I borrow money from is my parents, which doesn't really count.. at all.

5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought?
My mp3 player! It was 250 bucks. Second most expensive was my guitar and amp, and that was 150 bucks.

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it? No. However, aside from making my bed and just generally tidying up after myself I didn't have any specific chores (taking out garbage, cleaning bathroom, etc), so it was fair. And I think I frankly preferred getting nothing for doing nothing than getting paid for chores.
2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it? I started babysitting when I was 11, in 6th grade. I babysat kids as young as a year old; I'm kind of surprised I was successful, lol.
3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money? Save money. I am such a cheapskate. I buy things when I need them but I spend as little as possible, always trying to have something to sit on.
4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them? I think it's about even. I go through periods where I never pass an ATM and chronically borrow for weeks, even, but there are also times I go out someplace and pay for everyone and slowly get it back. It all works out.
5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? Probably plane tickets to go to NY last summer. Which weren't that expensive at all. Like I said-- cheapskate. Also, I do not live in an apt and don't own a car, so that has a lot to do with it.

I also posted on my blog: http://shaycv.blogspot.com/2008/06/friday-five-june-13-2008.html

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it? I received an allowance as a kid. The amount would depend on if I did my chores and my behavior. During my teenage years I got $20.00 a week.

2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it? I was 17 when I got my first job. I was a telemarketer, selling coupon books. It was good money.

3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money? I spend money better than I can save it!

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them? I don't to borrow money but people don't seem to mind borrowing it from me.

5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? I think my biggest purchase ever was a 1990 Mustang I purchased. It cost $5,600.000. I loved that car!

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them?

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it?
I did for a little while. My dad was always pretty good at giving us money when we needed/wanted stuff but when I did get allowance, it was like $5 a week.

2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it?
Babysitting when I was probably 14 or so. Then my 1st real job was for the Dept. of Transportation when I was 17.

3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money?
Definitely spend

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them?
I hate borrowing money unless it is absolutely necessary. So, people are more likely to borrow from me.

5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought?
a 2006 Chevy Equinox! =)

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it?
Haha, no. I was just expected to do chores and to be happy about it. My parents did always pay for stuff for me though. It evened out.

2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it?
16. I worked at a collection agency.

3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money?
I enjoy spending money more, as long as it's good/productive spending. However, I love being able to put money in the bank. It's sick but it's satisfying.

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them?
I think it's about even. I need to stop that though.

5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought?
College. Something tangible: my car, and oh that car was cheap.

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it? It varied, if and when my grandfather remembered. Chores were small items (i.e. feeding the cat, making the bed.) and got me 10 cents a piece, each chore that was done. This, of course, was only on weekends or during the summer.
2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it? I bred and sold fish, and sold Coke on the corner of Newbury street as a kid. My grandfather was friends with a man who had a handicapped room mate, so he had a license to do that during the summer.
3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money? I kind of suck at both, to be honest.
4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them? Now? The latter, I'm broke.
5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? I don't remember how much my PS2 cost at the time, so at the moment - I'd say my External HD, which was about $100.00

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it?
Not really. If I needed money for something, I'd ask my mom and she'd give it to me (within reason).

2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it?
Other than babysitting, I worked at a burger/ice cream joint when I was 16.

3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money?
Haha, spend money. Sadly.

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them?
Borrow from me. I hate borrowing money from other people.

5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought?
A plane ticket to Japan.

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it?
Originally 10p for every year of my age. After the age of 11 it was £5 a week.

2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it?
Age 7 onwards I sang in a choir and got paid for singing at weddings. I also used to do catwalk shows modelling bridesmaids' dresses (no idea how I got into that one, but they paid you £50 for a couple of hours work).

3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money?
Definitely spend!

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them?
Borrow from me.

5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought?
The laptop that I'm typing this on.

This weeks Friday Five

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it?

My parents didn't believe in handouts so we didn't get pocket money boohoo. We were encouraged to do jobs from an early age and I worked on milk floats, did paper-rounds and gave leaflets out in the street when I was 13-14. I also became quite entrepreneurial at a young age and used to run a rival tuck shop in break time in year 9 - from by school bag. In year 10 I started offering a food service whereby I'd take orders for sausage rolls, pies etc. then go and get them all and heat them up in the local 7-11 store. By year 11 I was selling all sorts at break time, including set squares, compasses, pens, rulers which were hideously expensive if you got them from the school shop. In year 12 I was cannabis plants to all the school stoners. Only joking about that last bit.

2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it?

I left school as soon as I could. I was still actually only 15 (I left in May and I wasn''t 16 until June). I went to a drama school and to pay for it I worked at a roller disco in the evenings. I was living away from home in a bedsit for the year, then I got a job at Haven Holiday Park as an entertainer.

3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money?

I certainly don't save. However, I'm not an excessive spender either. I'm not really interested in money at all. As long as I've got some I'm OK. Things can be tight when you're self employed. You have to fight for every job and during recession like now, customers don't like spending as much. The only saving I do is paying into a personal pension and my only extravagances are holidays.

4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them?

I hate lending money to people. If I've got it and someone is more needy, I'd rather just give it to them. I know it's foolish and I'll never get rich like that, but as I say, I'm just not interested in money.

5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought?

I guess our car. But even then - neither of us are into cars so we just got a cheap and cheerful one. I've really cut down on my lust for consumer fashions over the last 5 years. I used to always want the latest mobile phone and the latest laptop and £80 trainers but nowadays I'm rejecting all that. I look at Rooney and Coleen who just reportedly spent 5 million on their Wedding and I think how obscene. I mean, don't get me wrong, I think they're nice enough people, but seriously if I had a spare 5 million I'd have a thousand pound Wedding and spend the rest on something more worthwhile.
