Friday Five -- September 28, 2007
This week's questions were suggested by [info]skittlelover.

1. Have you ever considered running away from home?
2. Have you ever actually run away from home? (If so, for how long?)
3. What would make you want to run away from home?
4. What would you do if a friend ran away to your house?
5. If you were going to run away from home, where would you go?

1. Have you ever considered running away from home?
-I don't think so.
2. Have you ever actually run away from home? (If so, for how long?)
-Yeah, I was maybe 4? I packed my backpack with my older sisters deodorant, and some candy. I think I made it 2 blocks.
3. What would make you want to run away from home?
-I dont rememer what made me want to run away, and I can't think of anything now that would.
4. What would you do if a friend ran away to your house?
-Let them stay a few days, work things out. At least they're safe.
5. If you were going to run away from home, where would you go?
-Somewhere I've never been.

I suppose the first question I answered wrong, because I did "run away" once, so I must have considered it. But I was 4. Really, what can a 4 year old consider?

1. Have you ever considered running away from home?
Yes. When I was a kid, like five to eight years old, that used to be my big threat. When I felt I was treated unfairly or my parents did something I didn't like, I'd dramatically shout "YOU CLEARLY DON'T LOVE ME SO I'M GOING TO RUN AWAY!" or I'd leave little note slipped under their door explaining the whole plan. Then I would make a show of packing.

2. Have you ever actually run away from home? (If so, for how long?)
No. My mom would get the note, and help me "pack"-- by obnoxiously telling me what I could and couldn't take (what belonged to the family vs. what belonged to me), and pointing out that nobody I knew would take me in, they'd be on her side.

3. What would make you want to run away from home? At this point, the point is moot, as I'm an adult and so it wouldn't be running away but merely moving out, but if it had come to that it would have had to have been a state of affairs in which I felt so trapped-- abused, stifled, mistreated-- that there was no other way out. Actually, I'm more the type to have killed myself, first, actually. It would have seemed easier than all the hurt I'd cause everyone around me (not that in that situation they wouldn't have deserved it-- this is totally the realm of hypotheticals, because after about age ten I never, ever considered running away) than trying to sort my way out into a new life.

4. What would you do if a friend ran away to your house? It would depend. If I could relate to their reasons for running away-- if I knew their parents were abusing them, etc-- I would let them stay, no questions asked, and help them out in terms of getting and staying out. If they were just having what I could tell to be a dramatic fit, I'd let them stay until they calmed down, and then help them realize what was going on . . . and it wouldn't (if they were still a dependent) be beyond me to call their family and let them know they're okay.

5. If you were going to run away from home, where would you go? See, once again, the point is moot. Back when it was an idea, I used to say Alice's house-- but then Mom would always point out that her mom would just send me right back.

1. Have you ever considered running away from home?
Yes, back in high school. However, mother used reverse psychology on us: "We don't mind if you decide you want to get away from us for a while, though we'd like it if you called occasionally to tell us you were okay." So much for that...

2. Have you ever actually run away from home? (If so, for how long?)
On the other hand, does spending whole weekends (and sometimes whole weeks) playing computer games and/or reading books in my bedroom, emerging only to attend to the bare necessities of life (and not being in the same room as anyone else, let alone family members, for several days) count?

3. What would make you want to run away from home?
The Call to Adventure!

4. What would you do if a friend ran away to your house?
Give them a hug, a drink, and as much time as they need.

5. If you were going to run away from home, where would you go?
If I got my hands on a TARDIS, the only thing stopping me from departing this galaxy forever would be the question of what to do with my cat...

1. Have you ever considered running away from home? Yes
2. Have you ever actually run away from home? (If so, for how long?)Well, I don't think it qualifies as running away, but back in my freshman year of high school, I took the bus to my mother's house instead of going home. I went back home that same evening.
3. What would make you want to run away from home? Then it was because my family hated my boyfriend. In retrospect, they were right
4. What would you do if a friend ran away to your house? Probably be pissed at first that they didn't call me ahead of time, but then we'd deal with it
5. If you were going to run away from home, where would you go? Honestly, I don't know.
