rae0024@aol.com AboutWhile this community is mostly dedicated to and in honor of The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper, you can talk about anything you want to (though let's try to keep the main flow of conversation around literature).
For all those who have loved this series since childhood or for those who have just discovered it, for those who love to write fanfiction in relation to the stories, for those who love Arthurian legend and Welsh legends, for those who love the poetry, for those who love the beauty, for those who love the magic, for those who read these books at least once a year (especially for those who read DiR every Christmas season), for those who sing "Good King Wencelas" every time you get to that section of The Dark is Rising, and for those who have always longed to truly be a part of the world described, this is a place to come together.
Note: Recent events (such as the new movie called The Dark is Rising, or more recently still, The Seeker: The Dark is Rising) have caused there to be quite a buzz on the community during the last few months.
While it is understandable that some community members might get tired of the constant posts complaining about the movie, I can only ask that you understand the position of those who love the books and truly find this movie to be a slaughtering of a beloved series. While I ask that the posts remain non-offensive (except to the movie itself, hehe) and do not endorse hate-posts, I completely understand the reason for the comments being made and the need for people to join together in righteous indignation. If these posts bother you, I would ask that you exercise your right to NOT read them. Thank you for understanding the needs of those present in the community.
When the Dark comes rising, six shall turn it back;

Wood, bronze, iron; water, fire, stone;
Five will return, and one go alone.
Iron for the birthday, bronze carried long;
Wood from the burning, stone out of song;
Fire in the candle-ring, water from the thaw;
Six Signs the circle, and the grail gone before.
Fire on the mountain shall find the harp of gold
Played to wake the Sleepers, oldest of the old;
Power from the green witch, lost beneath the sea;
All shall find the light at last, silver on the tree.
On the day of the dead, when the year too dies,
Must the youngest open the oldest hills
Through the door of the birds, where the breeze breaks.
There fire shall fly from the raven boy,
And the silver eyes that see the wind,
And the light shall have the harp of gold.
By the pleasant lake the Sleepers lie,
On Cadfan’s Way where the kestrels call;
Though grim from the Grey King shadows fall,
Yet singing the golden harp shall guide
To break their sleep and bid them ride.
When light from the lost land shall return,
Six Sleepers shall ride, six Signs shall burn,
And where the midsummer tree grows tall
By Pendragon’s sword the Dark shall fall.
Y maent yr mynyddoedd yn canu,
ac y mae’r arglwyddes yn dod.
