I like and don't like Angel. Does that make any sense?

Angel is the best character/series ever

Some personal agendas, chips on the shoulder entered into the voting, and I doubt the answer to the first question was honest for some.
The second season - where Minear was in charge and in top shape is the best and brightest, with one and three following, and four.
Five has parts I cannot watch. - it's what happens when studio executives meddle in the creative process.

Says you. I loved season 5. 4 was pretty terrible, but then they managed to save it and make it better than ever. I'm not saying everything that happened in that season was great, but there wasn't anything particularly bad and there was a lot good. Plus, it avoided the usual Joss Whedon ending where the good guys miraculously win and everything turns out fine which has plagued pretty much everything he's ever written.

Killing off Fred and having something take over her body was a fantastic move (I liked Fred, but she was the right choice for the character to do that to), getting rid of Cordelia was the best thing that ever happened to the show. She had become so incredibly lame that it just wasn't funny, and adding Spike was a stroke of Genius.

In Buffy, Spike was becoming a bit boring and losing what made him a great character to begin with. In Angel, he was suddenly in a place he didn't want to be and unable to do what he wanted to, and that brought a bit of the old Spike back. Clearly he was still a good guy, but he was more the good version of what he had been than the total goody-goody he'd become in Buffy.

As always, Angel was the weakest link, character-wise. He's just so afraid of doing wrong that he doesn't do anything, but by the end of this season he'd finally realised that if your enemies are cheating then you can't win unless you cheat to, and this isn't a game so you'd better not lose.

Even the boring characters (Gunn and Lorne) had some interesting stuff in this season, rather than just being "the other guy" or a gimmick, and I loved how Harmony was portrayed. She really didn't want to be a bad guy. She'd tried it and she was no good at it. But they wouldn't let her be a good guy. Of course she "betrayed" them. They never gave her a chance to do anything else. I particularly liked the episode Harm's Way

I didn't much like Eve or the Agent/Terminator guy who replaced her, but they didn't really do anything to sabotage the good bits, and the season had possibly the funniest episode of Buffy/Angel ever (The one where Angel and Spike go to Rome (The Girl in Question)).

So, in conclusion, you're totally wrong.

Or maybe you're just wrong and more people really do like the last series better than the others? No, that couldn't be it. It's obviously a conspiracy.

I really don't think people voting for things is about whether they have 'chips on their shoulders' - interesting theory though(!) I think it's just that a lot of people liked season 5 because they enjoyed it the most.
