Where's Kaylee? The poster would be ten times better if she were on it.

Simon's not on the poster either, so clearly they are off doing "other" things.

I loved Firefly and loved Serenity.

My partner is a shit movie magnet, meaning that when he walks into a video store he just holds out his hand and the worst scum sucking bottom feeding E grade trash flies right into it.

I had to give this a six, because as far as shit films he's picked goes, this wasn't so bad.

I would have given this a 9 after the first time I watched it. But the second time, gah... it seemed really silly and trite and ridiculous.

Before seeing this - at the egging on of friends - I groaned, thinking it would be a forgettable sci-fi diversion (I also knew next to nothing about it or Firefly), but within the first 15 mins. (which packed a lot of action and information in, to grip us from the outset) I was completely drawn into its cheeky, shifty game. Everything is played out with a well-balanced, energetic charm. It took shopworn ideas and attempted to inject a bit of much-needed life and pizzazz into them. For me it worked because it didn't take much very seriously, but still managed to make the dramatic elements thoroughly absorbing. It was the characters winking at the audience - letting us know that they, and we, are there for the thrill and the fun of it all - and not so much the film-makers being forcibly ironic, which was a refreshing change. I was surprised at how dark it became as it went on. It took a few risks (for what it was: a family-orientated space yarn) with the story and dared to be slightly original with its intentions; it made all that adventurous space nonsense fun again. It was affable, witty and keen to impress a sense of spirit onto the audience - it made me smile. Although its box office may not have been as sizable as that of other sci-fi/adventure flicks (Star Wars & The Matrix sequels etc), but it left the pompousness and stern facade of those kinds of films behind and replaced it with a genuine desire to entertain without the laboured exposition or dragged out saga; for me, it left them in the dust. It was the sight and sound of Whedon whipping down his pants, squatting over a bearded face and saying - with a wry smile - "open wide George!".

This was a fun movie made much more enjoyable if you had seen the series before it, as it picks up after that, for the most part.

Why does the scale not go to 15?? No, as a fan of the show, there were a few flaws with the movie (Simon didn't play Simon very well - he came out kind of bland as a character, for example), but overall this movie made me extremely happy. It revived sci-fi as what it's supposed to be - allegory. It tells a story greater than itself, commenting on today without TALKING about today. And a good allegory in this case is timeless, which I think this has the potential to be. I don't know, maybe in a few years there will be a few things that I find dated, but I can't peg them yet. And this is a story about good, evil, and the vast grey that encompasses them both. Human nature. And it's damn funny! It's my favorite movie at the moment because I can watch it in any mood. So hurray to the movie and hurray to the Browncoats and Whedon for getting the Big Damn Movie made.

On it's own I'd say it's probably somewhere between a 6 to an 8 but in conjunction with the show I give it a 10...even if it did rewrite some cannon and did a thing or two that just didn't make sense.

All in all, a fun movie that gives the background to where River's been, but I don't think any of it as good as the series. Even so, it still is better than some of the other movies that was out at that time.

Disappointing.

You can certainly tell this was a cast of television actors. Thankfully Fillion gets the job done.

I've never thought there was much wrong with (most) television actors, on the whole. I think it may be more to do with opportunity, and luck perhaps. Many are better than a great deal of high profile film actors.

I'm surprised anyone would rate the movie who hasn't seen it...
but it looks like 38 people disagree w/that position.

Personally I have it a 10, I loved the movie, I rewatched it many times, I bought the DVDs for friends and family (as well as for myself), so it would be silly if I didn't give it the top rating. It isn't as though there aren't other movies I love too; I would give any movie I loved, rewatched, and recommended without reservation, a ten.

Yup. I love the film and the series. Interested to see eftsoons comment on it as an allegory. Not too many other seem to have seen this, but I agree. In fact that's reinforced by Joss's reply to the question about which 4 people he'd want with him on a Desert Island on the Q & A on disc 2 of the region 4 version of the DVD. BTW The New Zealand version of the above poster was printed in monochrome ( purplish blue ) & said the film was made by the maker of Buffy & DARK Angel !!!!!!.

oh yeah, us joss fans sure now how to rig a vote. Well, not really 'rig' because it does deserve a 10. One of the best movies i've seen, and easily the best sci-fi movie i've seen. Yes, it's better than Star Wars, even the orginal ones. It just has everything i could want. It's exciting, funny, has a strong political message (without being preachy about it) and has a kick-ass heroine.

Wasn't a sequel or a remake, original, funny and emotional.

Also loved Firefly but Serenity was still different and lovable.
