Finally moved my religion journal over to InsaneJournal. "Moved" in the sense of "I opened a journal there". None of the old entries have moved yet. Second post there is an FAQ. | | Wednesday, July 25th, 2007 | 4:48 pm [babydraco]

Pope’s put his foot in his mouth again. This time he’s said “Jesus formed only one church” (last time he told Brazilian natives that the Indians had longed for Christianity, before that it was "Islam is a violent religion"). Aside from all the new and scary info about what this Pope just did, Jesus didn’t “form” any church! Jesus formed a group of people who wanted to help people be better Jews, and then he got killed because some other people feared that “better Jews” might mean “we’re not gonna be suckers and take your crap anymore”(which is pretty much the main reason why people don’t like Jews going around thinking they’re real people). As for Peter, Paul? All those guys fought like cats and dogs until their deaths. There wasn’t “one church” at the time, there were at least three. Then Rome got in on the act, and for awhile there really was “one church”….until a few centuries later when the Catholics and Orthodox split up. And then in the fifteen hundreds when the Protestants stormed out. So, newsflash- there was never really “one church” just “one church that bullied all the others into thinking they didn’t exist and grabbed all the power”. There are a lot of great Catholic churches out there, a lot of people doing good stuff. But The Vatican is just constantly ruining everything. They come out and make these pronouncements that all sensible, forward thinking Christians know you’re not supposed to say out loud anymore, whether or not you actually believe it. They still think they’re running things and that they can still get away with that paternalistic, “we know what’s best for you” attitude and the assumption that their word will obviously be obeyed. I don't recognize their authority, and no amount of them saying I should will change that. "Salvation" doesn't come through a denomination and it never did. | | Monday, July 9th, 2007 | 5:16 pm [babydraco]

I did say that I'd keep trying to tackle the subject of Christians and Art/Entertainment. So I'm doing posts here and there on it, in between other things. Because apparently, I have no organization whatsoever anymore :) ( Christian themed films and tv shows ) | | Friday, July 6th, 2007 | 2:03 pm [babydraco]

hahaha! Yes.. Well, not lately and never in a big way but I am willing for it to occur. I told you so! . No, I really did, remember? I know Slactivist is not the ultimate authority on all things evangelical, but not only does he have a great deal more doctrinal knowledge than I do, he's also a more well known and well respected blogger, quoting well respected published authors who are saying the same thing I said in my entry. *smirk* I mean, it's not like I haven't spent 24 years with those people, getting to know the ins and outs of their politics and how things *really* work. I fiddled with my pet peeves entry, adding another thought and changing one of my answers. I changed my response a bit for the "I'd be Christian if Christians were better Christians" one. I said this instead: It reminds me alot of when I rant about sexism in comic books. I can write reams of eloquent ranting on the subject, and yet I haven't made much of an effort to search out female friendly comics, or write my own. Because deep down, all my complaining about "sexism in comics drove me away from being interested" is only half the truth. If I cared more about comics in the first place, the sexism would never have truly stopped me. I claim I wanted to care, and I know I did/do, except I don't care enough to fight for it. I'll look for those ones my friend recced, but I won't be knocking myself out over it.
And that's true of most people. Everyone likes to complain, but the majority of people are too lazy or apathetic to do anything about it- some people even *prefer* complaining. Most people prefer to stand on the outside and tell the people on the inside what they should be doing. It's why there are thousands of armchair umpires and guys down at Jim's Hardware who know *exactly* what we should do to fix unemployment but would never actually run for office. | | Monday, July 2nd, 2007 | 1:44 pm [babydraco]

But you don't understand, you've never been there
I'm going to Blog Against the Theocracy this time around. This time they took the hint and scheduled the event better. Last time they chose to do it over the Easter weekend. Now, before you're all " look at her expectation of Christian privilege" think about it… Last time they chose to hold it during a time when the majority of the people they were blogging against would not be at their computers and a significant percentage of people who would have liked to participate would also not be at their computers. So people who thought that'd be a good idea spent the entire weekend basically preaching to themselves and a few media outlets run by people like themselves. This time it begins July 1st (yesterday) and ends July 4th. So that's three normal days to get all your stuff posted. ( Blogging Against Theocracy ) | | Friday, June 29th, 2007 | 6:00 pm [babydraco]

I am in bed, not feeling well, and have no AIM in here. :( I am writing this to make up for the crack that was the Chimera post (which I'm pretending never happened although if I was really doing that I wouldn't have brought it up at all). I am also adding to my Pet Peeves post, occassionally. I was wondering if evangelical neccessarily must= conservative (theologically or socially). I know it's the stereotype, but I've seen a lot of exceptions to that, and with what I understand about evangelical beliefs, it should be just as easy to take a liberal standpoint. Debates over whether you can be a Muslim and a Christian at the same time. *sigh* I mean, as someone currently attempting to juggle three faiths at once- I think it can be done. You have to be willing to compromise though. You know, saying "I/they don't believe in the Bible"(or any similar phrase) always baffles me. It exists. It's a three dimensional object that can be held in your hands. I think maybe you mean you/they don't follow the *teachings* of it or that you/they don't acknowledge it as true scripture. To me, that's still basically saying something along the lines of "The Season 8 Buffy comics aren't valid canon". But that wasn't really the thrust of the post or the debate in the comments anyway. I...am glad that at least one person is agreeing with me. I'd been concerned that the entire comm would affirm my previously mentioned fear about my fellow Christians. That even this uber liberal group would say "you can't play with us if you don't agree with us on that". | | Monday, June 11th, 2007 | 2:39 pm [babydraco]
