September 25 Sketchbook

That's William Faulkner, a tree from Seneca Park and me working out the basics of "The Burning House." The Faulkner pisses me off -- I had that hand perfectly sketched and I mangled it with sloppy inking. Then I tried it again with sloppy pencils and inked it sloppy again. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Did you ever see the Crumb movie? Where his son is talking about how awesome his dad inks? I liked that part.

Yeah! I love that scene. The part where they're both drawing from the same photograph and Crumb's all "you did this wrong, this wrong, and that part, too."

But it is all stated well. I always looked at my dad (he was never in the same room as me during but I pretended) during that scene. Could you imagine if that was a porn family not a comic family? that scene woulda been waaaay better.

Yeah, he's very polite about knowing exactly how to draw without ever using pencils. Sort of horrifying, really.

And do you think maybe that's how things used to go down at the Guccione mansion?
