Official Stumptown Wrap-Up, Part 2
Part the first

Yeah, so then some other stuff happened.

Immediately after I posted the first entry, Leslie was all "Why didn't you post a picture of us at the taaaaabllllle?!?" in that voice she has.

So here we are at our table.

I am hiding.

That's Frank and Emory manning the table. Leslie and Paul are nowhere to be found (lazy). I am behind the minis so as to avoid predators. I was surprised that not many tables had a PVC stand like ours. At APE it's par for the course, but we stood out like crazy at Stumptown.

So where was I? I forgot to mention that Saturday I finally got to meet Brenna, long-time Atrox supporter and wonderful artist/sculptor in her own right. Leslie also briefly introduced me to Kate Beaton, whose comics are *mwah* magnifique!

Sunday morning was a might pokey, customer-wise, so I stole some money from the cash box and ran off to make some sexy purchases. I picked up books from Nicholas Gurewitch and Jason Shiga (mad geniuses both), as well as a Teen Boat shirt from Dave Roman. Got a print from Molly, and we discovered that we had both had cars stolen in Eagle Rock. So watch your cars when you go to All Star Lanes, folks! Apparently Scott Campbell was at the Fest too, I just missed him like an oblivious dork. I would totally have bought a print off that guy. Anyway, our sales on Sunday, while not as robust as Saturday, were still very solid. I do believe this was our biggest con yet, sales-wise. That's encouraging!

Sunday night after the Con we went to a big dinner at Macaroni Grill organized by Jenn Manley Lee and Kip Manley. (Kip dug my Wheelbear shirt, so thumbs up for that guy.) The McCloud family was there, as well as a bevy of other folks. First though, I had to park the van. I was designated van driver all weekend, so I dropped everyone off and spent a good ten minutes looking for a parking space, since all the nearby garages didn't have a tall enough clearance to fit our big-ass van. It all worked out, when I found a nearly-empty lot where I was certain I would be mugged and/or killed. I wasn't though.

For reasons too incredibly boring to get into, I was SO PSYCHED to be at Macaroni Grill! They have paper tablecloths you can draw on with crayons, so all the artists at the dinner just went to town. I was sitting across from Emory and he said "Do you want to see me draw Cyclops from the X-Men?" I said sure. So Emory got to work. And this is the masterpiece he eventually came up with:

First place!

So yeah, that's a Ninja Turtle with Cyclops' visor, claw hands, spikes, battle damage, lipstick, and a purple buzzcut/Kid 'N Play haircut. I am so friggin' excited in the picture because Emory gave it to me as a gift. Also note that Frank awarded it 1st Place, which rankled Terri of Periscope Studios, who decided to give all her drawings a Kid 'N Play haircut, too.

The hairstyle improves everything

Before dinner was over, burning questions about Aquaman were answered, Frank ruined the tablecloth, and our waitress quoted "Arrested Development." It was a pretty boss dinner, you guys.

After dinner we gave Jenn, Lori, Dylan, and a dude whose name I didn't catch (I was driving the van!) a ride back to Jenn's place, then we headed back to town for a shindig at a coffee shop. Leia showed up with her boyfriend and Paul and I shot the shit with them while Leslie, Emory, and Frank wandered off with Kip to look at some art. Paul had found a cigar in the back of the van earlier, and opted to smoke it like the straight-up genius that he is. Fortunately for Paul but unfortunately for hilarity in general, the cigar was not laced with PCP. Nor was it, as Emory theorized, "full of shit."

After the coffee shop we wandered over to the Pony Club Stumptown Afterpary, the crowd of which had apparently thinned out enough so that you could move around without shoving. We were all pretty beat though, so we didn't dawdle too long. Not to mention we had to get on the road tomorrow for two days of hard drivin' down the California coast.

So that was our Stumptown! I had an amazing time, and I'm sure the rest of the Team did, too. Perhaps Frank can regale you with tales of his love of the panels of Raina Telgemeier! But yeah, great time. Definitely going next year (again).
