While it is a difficult decision to make, after a long period of observation it has become obvious that both A and Backup are too unstable to handle the pressures of Wammy's House. In addition, there have been many signs that they have been neglecting their work in favor of other activities not condoned by the House. They are being moved to an affiliated mental health facility to be treated for their issues using all the resources available to us. We, of course, wish them the best of luck in their recovery.

Let this be a reminder to you all of the nature of Wammy's House. If you are having issues that clearly render you incapable of functioning at the level expected, you will be removed from the running and treated with the proper means, no matter what level you are at.

I am available in my office if there are any concerns.

Father Joseph Leeds (NPC) posting in The Succession
User: [info]father_joseph
Date: 2008-03-13 15:10
Subject: [Event] NPC: Father Joseph
Security: Public

NPC: Joseph Leeds [the bishop]
Location: The Winchester Cathedral is one of the largest cathedrals in England, with the longest nave and overall length of any Gothic cathedral in Europe. It is the seat of the Bishop of Winchester and center of the Diocese of Winchester. In addition to its religious importance, it is also a very popular tourist destination. The recent murder has been terrible for business. The bishop's office is in a building that branches off from the main church, rather far from where the murder took place, in one of the many confessionals.

This is a first-come, first serve scenario. If you don't get a chance to speak to the NPC, you'll have to find another way to obtain the information if you feel it necessary.

NPC: Bob Sprout [the coroner]
Location: The city morgue is like any other, clean but carries a rather foul odor, lit by buzzing fluorescent lights, and tended to by many somber individuals. Bob has the night shift, which leaves him all alone and more likely to share information with people who come by. Documentation says that Deborah's body is no longer being held here, but Bob assisted with the autopsy.

Subject: [Event] NPC: Lucy Stockton

NPC: Lucy Stockton [the forensic technician]
Location: The forensics laboratory is the finest in Winchester, fully equipped to handle most cases that are outsourced by the police. Nighttime is the only time to find Lucy there, and she's the only one likely to speak to anyone outside government officials. She's usually alone in the lab, although security is just a few doors down. She tends to forget bottles of wine sitting on her desk.

Subject: [Event] NPC: Gladis Hathaway

NPC: Gladis Hathaway [the neighbor]
Location: Outside the Harts' home. Located in an upper middle class neighborhood of Winchester, the house is a three-story Victorian that looks like it could use a little maintenance. Nevertheless, it had a tall wooden fence that cannot be seen over and security system warning stickers on the windows. No one seems to be home much at all lately, but there's activity at the modest cottage next door.

Subject: [Event] NPC: Jeff Doberman

NPC: Jeff Doberman [the ex-boyfriend]
Location: The Heighworth School. Not only does this exclusive academy have one of the best reputations in Winchester, it also is known for reforming troubled teenagers and turning them into respectable individuals. The atmosphere is very cozy and the setting is almost like Wammy's, but the students are quite different. Even though they're bright compared to the average student, Heighworth kids tend to be snobby and loud. Everyone seems eager to show off and appearance is everything.

Those of you who have been following the BBC news may have already heard about the murder which occurred yesterday at the Winchester Cathedral. I have very little time to go into the details, as I am currently closing a case of my own. The victim was a 16-year-old girl and no suspects have yet been taken into custody. The girls parents are desperate for results, as they have contacted me through a local mirror. They believe that the police are not doing their very best in this investigation, and I am inclined to agree with that assessment.

That is why I am using this opportunity to give you all a bit of practice. Roger will provide you with the details shortly. In the meantime, consider all other assignments on hold. The Cathedral case is now your top priority.

Except for the First Generation- A, B, Jibril, and D, your current cases are of greater importance.

According to the most recent report from Rodger there are many things that need addressing.

First of all, it would seem many of you are treating the House as if it were a boarding school that you were shipped to against your will.

It is not. The orphanage is an educational facility for my "Children". You all knew that when coming here. You all understood that you were hand-picked from across the globe for your skills and talents and for your abilities in intelligence, creativity and leadership. You all understood that you would be training to succeed me once I was no longer able to carry out my duties. You all understood that the House was a competitive environment and that your duties would often be stressful. Do not act as though this is all a shock to you. You all know that becoming Justice is difficult and often thankless but it must be done. Without L, the world's crime rates would rise rapidly, what we do is a service to all nations.

It has also come to my attention that my Children have found it necessary to pursue inappropriate romances, beat on each other, and skip their lessons. As things are going now a scarce few of you would ever reach the capacity to succeed my title. Please do not misunderstand what I am saying, for many of you sexual curiosity is perfectly natural but do not let it get in the way of your purpose. Abstinence would be best but I cannot enforce that by my own hand. This much deviation from the Objective this early in the game is simply unforgivable.

I will be home on the 20th. If things have not straightened out by then, I will see to your individual punishments myself, is that perfectly clear?

...Happy Holidays.

Upon further monitoring of the situation involving Alert and Zaviel, it has been determined that not only are these two engaged in inappropriate relations but they have proven to be incapable of handling the pressures of the system here at Wammy's House. After a meeting among the House's administrative staff and a consultation with our most trusted psychiatrists, it has been determined that Alert and Zaviel will be dismissed from their current obligations here and will be moved to an affiliated mental health facility where they will receive the best treatment available. We wish them luck on their recovery.

Let this serve as a reminder to all of you. You were selected with the impression that you are all capable of handling the extraordinarily competitive and stressful environment created by the work which is done here. If we notice you straying from the objective and displaying behaviour which indicates that you are incapable of functioning to the expected level, you will also be removed and relocated to one of our affiliate locations and treated until you can be reintroduced to normal society.

As always, I am available in my office to discuss any concerns you may have.

OOC:

Sorry to have to do this but after numerous complaints from other players and several warnings from the mods, it's been decided that [info]a_lert and [info]z_aviel are not being played as the characters described in the applications we originally approved. Some evolution during gameplay is expected, of course, but rapid and drastic changes with no apparent cause are grounds for us to drop the characters, especially after other players have come to us with issues regarding them. You're both free to reapply with new information but I can say that, as overtly unstable as these two are, they would not be accepted into Wammy's in the first place.

There have been rumors recently of an engagement between two children here at the Orphanage. While I mostly ignored these, recently one of the partners in the engagement openly announced its status.

I would like to therefore take a moment to remind everyone here of the purpose of the Orphanage. This institution was founded with the purpose of raising L's successors. While love at your age is understandable, it should not be the focus of your life in any sense. If a relationship has progressed to the point where an engagement has become involved, then it has clearly begun to interfere with your studies and with your real reason for being here.

For now, no actions will be taken. However, if I receive word that the relationship has continued at its current level of intensity, then steps might be taken. Do remember that regular orphanages have no such rules about relationships, and please note that I am happy to file transfer paperwork to send those involved elsewhere if either party wishes me to do so.

(Also, a note to Chemical Crucifix: return my car.)

**There are many reasons why L faked a soaring fever. It had to do with the playing board of the House, forcing pieces into certain positions. Today L appears well enough to be mobile, though Watari is always at his side and L seems to be constantly grasping a glass of fluids between his fingers. The dark circles of insomnia are exaggerated and his skin appears paler.

However, those orphans who yesterday doubted L's claims of fever awoke this morning to a surprise: A cupcake on their nightstand reading

You have learned to pool your knowledge and resources. You have learned to question when the clues and facts do not add up, even when those facts are presented to you by people in positions of authority.

A jar of strawberry jam was left with Beyond.

L will deny having anything to do with these treats if questioned about them, but, yes, they were his idea.

Watari received an email this morning from the mirror in Southeast Asia. Yes, again. It would seem that the Prime Minister of Preăh Réachéanachâkr Kâmpŭchea has gone missing. Kidnappings are not my favorite crimes but far be it for me to refuse service to such a public figure as Preah Karuna Preah Bat Sâmdech Preah Bâromneath Norodom Sihanouk Nai Preah Reacheanachakr Kampuchea that is, King Norodom Sihanouk.

Cambodia has a fairly wealthy treasury and I am sure I will be paid dearly upon receipt of the Prime Minister. Watari is trying to book me a room at any decent hotel or apartment suite in Phnom Penh. I'll be leaving on the second of December and I hope to have the case solved by Christmas so that I may return to the orphanage, I regret not being able to be here the last two years.

Roger will see to your assignments in our absence as usual.

Just as a notice to everybody, I will be coming home on the 22nd, intervening circumstances allowing. That would be Thanksgiving to those of you who may recognize the holiday from the United States. I will stay for St. Andrew's Feast and will most likely be gone by the first Sunday of Advent. I do apologize that I am unable to stay longer. I hope I will be back for Christmas as well, but I cannot promise that.

Hello, everyone.

As you can see, the network that has been in the works for a while has finally been established. This network will allow for computer-based communications between the residents of Wammy's House, as well as facilitating the distribution of assignments and class material. Each of you has been assigned a personal 'journal', as well as being connected into the main community. The journals can be used to record your thoughts, to leave messages for your fellow residents, or for a variety of other uses that I am certain you will all discover. This community, on the other hand, will serve purposes related to your training - assignments will be distributed here by myself or Roger, the results will frequently be posted here, and questions relating to your work should be posted here so that I am certain to notice them.

I will be monitoring everyone's progress, of course, both through the community and through occasional readings of the personal journals. The purpose of this network is to facilitate your development and training, and I expect your journals and the results of your assignments to reflect that development.

Do not worry, however - the network is completely secure against the outside world, and the filters inside the network are completely impenetrable to others, including myself. I do not believe I should be privy to what is meant to be private. Therefore, feel free to state whatever you wish without fear.
