Tofu Boy

Do you see it everyone? He really looks like him
doesn't he? I decided to try giving him some tofu.
(BTW: It's my interpretation of the cover of Natsuhiko
Kyogoku's book about Tofu Boy.)

This is the first time in my kid's life to try tofu.

Natsuhiko Kyogoku is a Japanese sci-fi writer. Web searches turn up various sites about
him and his work. They seem to be several books about monsters called "yokai" that are
fighting amongst each other, and Tofu Boy must be one of them. It looks to be something
like a Japanese equivalent of X-Men.

Summer is Here

The eggplant has come in really well,
and so has the corn.

There was an announcement about the
Nodame movie! They all are working really hard
in Vienna. They are very excited to be filming
at the Musikverein Wien.

At the concert I saw at the Musikverein,
Ricardo Muti was the conductor. And now
in that same place Tamaki-kun is conducting,
Juri-chan is there...The camera is rolliing...
amazing..

I have to work hard too...

I had to take a little rest because of my appendix.
But since we had already decided the contents of
tankoban vol. 22, its release will proceed in August
as planned. We missed 2 chapters of the serialization and
are deciding how to proceed with those one at a time.
Starting with the July 25 release of Kiss, there will
be 3 chapters in a row. And since the deadline is very
close, I have to really put in some time-----.

Weeding with the Baby On My Back

.......is something I stopped doing. (LOL)

Putting everyone on hold just seems so
awful, so I quit doing it. I don't want to
throw out my back. And since Aihime's parents
are doing the weeding for me...
Hopefully I can build up my strength..
Walking is a still hard, so it's probably enough
just to walk while shopping.

Since the kid loves music, I thought I might
play the guitar for him. It's been a while. But
then... my left wrist... won't turn? And really hurts–.

For quite a while I've been thinking I might have
tendonitis from carrying the baby. I don't use my
left arm for drawing, and I've been ignoring it.
It would be terrible if I can't play the guitar any
more.. But I guess I just need to rest this arm, right?
Hopefully it will get better on its own. But, well, it's
only the left...

I saw a sample of the limited edition DVD for
Nodame Volume 22. It made me laugh. Matsuda
is really good.

Oh well, various deadlines are looming, so I guess
I had better go.

Hopefully I can post again soon!

I read somewhere that the necklace that Chiaki gave to Nodame (in the series, the ruby heart necklace) is not the same as in the manga. Does anyone have a picture of the necklace(in the manga)? I would love to see it!

[NODAME RETURNS JULY 25]

Out of the Woods

Please excuse me for giving everyone a scare.
Thanks to everyone for your words of sympathy
and encouragement.

I was as surprised as anyone when it turned
out to be acute appendicitis. When I leaned on
my stomach, it hurt...really bad ? What? That's
what I was thinking. 2 days passed and I even had
a fever, so I went to the hospital. "Check in this
instant!" they said...

But I was in the middle of my deadline, so it was
completely vexing. The serialization is on hold
again, so sorry about that...

The doctor recommended that, without surgery,
I should have a continuous I.V. drip to bring down
[the infection].

Anyway, all is well! The pain has pretty well gone away.

Right now, I've checked out of the hospital and am at
home resting. I've been working on some small stuff
like revising the special books, and it's about time
to get back to it for real...

The serialization [Nodame] will resume with the
July 25 Kiss volume.

I'm working very hard to get back to healthy. Please
wish me well.

Of course, since I have been resting to regain my strength,
I have had plenty of reflection time. I've had to depend on
my husband to take care of the kid, carrying him around on
his back while weeding, and stuff like that.

In the short time I have not been able to see the kid,
he has mastered standing up while holding on to something.
Now he's standing from a sitting position all the time.
Strong kid, right?...

*facepalm* I go to ANN to stalk for D.Gray-man news and end up with Nodame news again ^^

The official website of Kodansha's Kiss magazine has announced on Monday that the next issue will not have its scheduled installment of the Nodame Cantabile manga because the manga's creator, Tomoko Ninomiya, had to be rushed to a hospital. Ninomiya suffered from abdominal pain and high fever while working towards her next deadline, and has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis. She will be unable to work on her manga while she receives treatment.

The magazine's next issue, which will be this year's 13th issue, will ship in Japan on June 25. The Nodame Cantabile manga's return date has not yet been decided, but Tomomiya's future plans will be announced in Kiss magazine and its official website.

I went to Hagio Sensei's "40th anniversary as a mangaka" party.
40 years going strong. Amazing.

It really got the juices going.

I'm so jealous...

Because I'm so busy with work right now, I left early. I drove really fast,
and I took a toilet break at a rest stop.

As I was hurrying back to the car from the toilet, I opened
the car door and...

"Wah!!" shouted a strange man sitting in the driver's seat!

I was also like, "Ahh! @#!!??"

Umm...Anyway it was the wrong car...
"I'm so sorry, my mistake!" I said as I escaped
to my own car...

As soon as POM heard about it, he started laughing at me.
He hasn't stopped since yesterday. It's quite vexing...

Oh well, I'm off to work~.

I seem to come across these things a lot (see my previous posts); last night at Animax (Asia) I chanced upon an English dub of the Nodame anime (Lessons 1 and 2). Not only was the dubbing good, it was pretty entertaining and funny in its own light. The translations were very fluid. Also the VA's were well picked; I even enjoyed hearing the minor characters speak. Nodame's voice is cute and managed to capture the playfulness of the original, without being annoying. Chiaki's voice is more subdued, but I like the deadpan humor he injects into his lines ("This is Spring; what you were playing was 'New Year'" LOL). Mine was just good old Mine. I wish I can share some clips; I suppose they'll turn up somewhere.

News is news and worthy enough to be shared, yes?

Tomoko Ninomiya, the creator of the popular musical slice-of-life manga Nodame Cantabile, will be launching a new manga mini-series called Noda-Can BS in the September issue of Kodansha's bimonthly Kiss Plus magazine on August 8. Noda-Kan BS is an abbreviation of "Nodame Cantabile Backstage." The short story in each four-page installment will focus on the supporting characters instead of the protagonists of the main series (the young musicians Nodame and Chiaki). For example, the first installment will focus on the R*S Orchestra member Tomohito Kimura and flutist Moe Suzuki.


Ninomiya just returned to the main Nodame Cantabile manga in March after taking time off to have her baby and recover from carpal tunnel syndrome. The Nodame Cantabile: Paris anime sequel aired in Japan from October to December, and another television series has been green-lit for this fall. Two live-action films were later announced for release in 2010. The 22nd volume of the Japanese manga will bundle a original animation DVD in August. Del Rey will publish the 16th of the 21 current volumes of the manga in North America next month.

Embroidery

Sorry for being tardy with updates.
After I finished the deadline, I did
a little traveling.

Mikarin sent me this embroidery set.
They're so pretty, aren't they? The
"prickle" kind that is so difficult to make.

I need to do some of my own. Even if I'm just
working with gauze, I should be able to
make something nice.

Of course, I still have work in front of
me. It's time to be thinking about the
next installments.

Starting with the next time, Nodame chapters will
be 24 pages. (June 10 is 30 pages. After June 25
there will be a pause.)

The story is nearly over. I won't be drawing many
extra panels like I usually do. I hope you don't mind.

For now we have a cool pace, for one more chapter.
After that, look out...

movie sent me these flowers. Wow.

Fans have been so persistently aiming to take the
flowers, there are two additional guards.

Speaking of the movie, I went to see the
movie director the other day. It had been awhile,
although I do meet with other staff members occasionally.

He's incredibly busy and dealing with all kinds of crazy
problems, so I encouraged him by saying "Do your best, do YOUR BEST!"
He acted all outraged and said, "You always do whatever you
want. I don't want to hear that from you!" I guess he has a point.

Anyway, as always I was very pleased. I am really looking forward
to the movie. Please keep up the good work, everyone.

I couldn't resist putting into writing my own thoughts about the absolute mess Chiaki made of his relationship with Nodame, and so I made this story in hopes that the actual events in the manga will not turn out this way. it's my first post in this community, and for the most part, I've been lurking around taking icons (with credit, of course) and reading other fan fiction, and as my first real contribution to this community, I hope that you all enjoy this story as much as I did writing it.

Title: A Belated Confession
Genre: Drama/Romance
Pairing: Chiaki/Nodame
Rating: Nothing explicit, but generally for mature audiences
Summary: Chiaki realizes that the only things Nodame needs from him are the simplest three words he has found it most difficult to tell her.

There is a clue on the 1st page about how much may be left. The entire Paris arc (since they graduated from college in Japan) has been structured like a symphony. On the 1st page of this chapter is (in French) "The Fourth Movement". Usually the fourth is the last movement, and each of her "movements" has been around 15-20 chapters. So that gives an idea how much is probably left. That has it ending about this time next year, just as the second movie is coming out. I don't know how long the anime will run, but if it runs a regular 26, it would be ending then too. Coincidence? I think not.

Kandidy may have mentioned this, but the next chapter is posted as June 10.
