This community has been revamped due to both moderator and participant inactivity. The rules have been slightly changed and the rounds, as well as the characters, have restarted. We are beginning as of June 2009 with Round 1.

The JOSSVERSE Community Rules

• This community celebrates the many characters of Joss Whedon in the world he created in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Series. No character is sacred, no pairing will be shunned. However, seeing as there are many people in the fandom who take offense to certain themes or even certain pairings, please label each chapter of each entry with the appropriate warnings, including ratings, disclaimers, genres, taboo themes, and ALL PAIRINGS.

• All work - fiction/art/media - MUST BE YOUR OWN. If it is discovered you plagiarized or stole someone else's work, you will be banned from the community and reported to stop_plagiarism. Plagiarism in written form covers a wide variety of artistic theft, including but not limited to stealing lines, paragraphs, whole chapters, and, of course, stories from preexisting work. We're all old enough to know this is unacceptable. If you plagiarize, you will be banned and reported. It's as simple as that. Don't do it.

• All fiction entries must be placed behind an LJ cut.

• Entries of all word lengths will be accepted, though 250 words or less will earn the title of "drabble" for the Reader's Choice poll.

• All art entries must be placed behind an LJ cut with the exception of thumbnails and/or up to five icons.

• Every round will run two months and feature two characters: one from BtVS and one from AtS. The characters might interchange roles, as many of the characters shared dual roles on either show. For example, Cordelia might be featured as the BtVS character for one round and the AtS character for another. Characters selected for the BtVS category must be written in the mindset of the specified category. In other words, using the abovementioned example, a story post-Season 3 of BtVS would not be an acceptable admission for a round featuring Cordelia as the BtVS character. This rule is EXCLUSIVE to characters who have appeared as regulars on both shows. Characters such as Buffy, Xander, Willow, Anya, Giles, Riley, and so forth who never appeared on AtS as regulars are exempt; characters such as Fred, Gunn, Lindsey, Lilah, Doyle, and so forth who never appeared on BtVS as regulars are likewise exempt.

• Every submission must be a response to a prompt on the prompt table. You may have as many as three responses to one prompt on one table. For instance, if you choose the prompt "jealousy" and think it fits three characters, you may write or contribute art for said prompt up to three times. That is - three times in total for each prompt table, not three times a round. After that, you must explore the other venues on the prompt table. This is so you might challenge yourself into storylines and situations you have not yet considered or explored.

• Members submitting fiction may contribute as many stories as they like. However, in the sake of fairness, only THREE stories by any author may be eligible for the voting round: a BtVS entry, an AtS entry, and a challenge entry. Members submitting multiple stories are free to self-nominate which fiction they prefer to be showcased in the voting round. Members submitting artwork are welcome to submit as many art/media entries as they choose. All artwork submissions will be eligible for the end-of-round poll.

• There will be a standing challenge in every round to write the rounds’ two selected characters in a story together. The characters may be featured as a pairing, but this is not a stipulation. Please be considerate and thoughtful in the challenge submissions; try to bring the characters together in a creative and believable fashion. For the challenge entries, the previous bars on timelines are null and void. A character that appears on both BtVS and AtS may be written in either timeline.

• Non-showcased characters may, of course, be paired with the showcased characters. For instance, if the given round showcases Wesley and Willow as that round's characters, it is not a stipulation that Wesley and Willow be paired together. Either character may be paired with any other character on either show or not paired at all. It is NOT a requirement to write the indicated characters together. The only time the showcased characters MUST be featured in a story together is in answering the above challenge.

• All stories must be written specifically for the community. You are, of course, free to post the stories elsewhere after debuting them here. They are YOUR stories. The only reason we're stipulating this rule is to ensure the entries were indeed written for this community.

• Collaboration fics are welcome.

• All submissions must include the author’s name, story title, prompt response, and chapter title/number in the subject header of each post. Neglecting to do this will make the submission ineligible for the Readers Choice voting.

• Categories will consist of “best of.” Best Angst, Best Drama, Best Romance, Best Fluff, Best PWP, Best Characterization, and so forth. Upon moderator’s discretion, a new category may be entered for the inclusion of either character for any given round. Category changes will always be announced.

• Graphics, wallpapers, icons, and fanart/vids of the current rounds’ characters will be accepted in a special artwork/media category.

• Voting will commence on the first of the month along with the introduction of the next rounds’ designated characters. The poll will remain until the 12th, and winners announced on the 14th.

• Community moderators are welcome to submit fiction, but are ineligible for the Reader’s Choice poll.

• Community moderators are prohibited from voting in the Reader’s Choice poll.

• The most important rule: we’re here out of a shared love for Joss Whedon and the characters he brought to life in these two incredible shows. Please treat others with due courtesy and respect. Harassment of community members is unacceptable, and the appropriate course of action will be taken against the offending party.

• Have fun, be creative, and respect one another.
