About
A community for writers who are desperate to interact with other skilled, serious writers. Bad goth poetry, insipid rhyming poems, fanfic, and atrocious prose are not welcome here!
For applicants:
1. Join and post an unlocked application consisting of three samples of writing – these may be drawn from poetry, prose, short fiction etc (we don’t need any other details such as age). Make sure you have stated that it is an application in the 'subject' field.
2. If you are including prose or short fiction pieces, please post excerpts rather than full pieces. You may include links to the complete pieces if they are posted elsewhere on the Internet.
3. Please lj-cut your application. If you do not already know how to lj-cut, please read and follow this FAQ. Do not post an application that is not lj-cut.
4. Acceptance requires a simple majority vote. The voting/critiquing period usually lasts between one and two weeks.
5. Plagiarism will result in an immediate ban.
6. Be courteous. Abusive or rude behaviour will result in an immediate ban.
7. Applicants are strongly encouraged to offer comments and critiques on member submissions (but not other applications or community threads) during the application period. This community values ability and willingness to give constructive criticism almost as much as talent as a writer. Useful comments (not fawning praise!) may turn borderline ‘No’ votes into yesses.
8. If unsuccessful you may reapply after one month.
For Members:
1. Please participate in voting on new applicants as frequently and promptly as you can!
2. Be candid (but not cruel) in your votes and comments on posts from members and applicants.
3. There will be periodic creative writing exercises to help refine your writing skills. Please take part.
4. Please don’t post more then one piece of work per week (unless you are also posting a response to an exercise).
5. Members should refrain from posting work if they are not actively voting or commenting on other members’ work. As a general rule, members are encouraged to comment at least three times more frequently than they post.
6. You are advised to friends-lock all of your posts after acceptance so that, if later submitted to publishers, your piece will not have been publicly published online.
7. Plagiarism will result in an immediate ban.
8. Discussion of the English language and literature is encouraged! If you want to set a discussion topic, please feel free to do so at any time.
9. Please lj-cut your posts.
10. Members are encouraged to invite potential applicants to join the community.
