the royal "we"
Oh man.  I was totally bad this weekend and didn't post on Sunday!  There was an episode involving delayed flights and airport transit, but that's boring.  What isn't boring: this week's post!

As always, comment if you take anything, preferably telling us what you think of the songs, and make us a layout, and send in applications, blah blah blah okay here's some tunes.

- - -

"Nth Degree" / "Jetsetter", Morningwood

Don't know much about these guys, other than that I'll be seeing them tomorrow with Abandoned Pools and the Dead '60s at the Old Brickhouse in Phoenix - assuming the Old Brickhouse still exists, which rumors on the various internets have stated otherwise!

Think of them as a hetero Le Tigre channeling Freezepop on meth.  Poppy melodies, catchy lyrics and a male/female double-vocalist attack make what could be a terribly, terribly cutesy experiment gone awry into a genuine dancefloor monster.  The band features ex-members of Spacehog and Cibo Matto, which is coincidentally not a bad combination when describing how this band sounds.  And I mean that in a good way.  Not, you know, in that twee "birthday cake" song way.

Anyway, damned if I can't get "Nth Degree" out of my head for the past week.  Please forgive me if you start chanting "M-O / M-O-R / M-O-R-N-I-N-G" under your breath all day without even thinking about it.  The self-titled record is out August 30th.

Thanks to Fluxblog for "Nth Degree".  Watch the video for "Jetsetter" here.

"Broken Drum (Boards of Canada Remix)" / "Missing (Royksopp Remix)", Beck

Self-explanatory - and awesome. The "Broken Drum" remix is devoid of the usual BoC subtlety but still whips up a decent frenzy of awesomeness.  The Royksopp remix reminds us all that, yes, they did produce Annie's "Heartbeat", and yes, we should worship them for it.

These tracks are from the scattershot but overall decent iTunes-only Remix EP #1, which collects the special-edition DVD-only Guero remixes and offers them for sale in a cheaper and slightly more useful format.  Don't say I never gave you anything.

i downloaded all of them, and i like them, and boards of canada does not do anything wrong, and on a tangent: bloc party has a remix album coming out as well, i wonder if it is any good, the artists that were enlisted makes me optimistic

Yeah, I did a post about that at [info]ohnotheydidnt a while back. I'm not the hugest Bloc Party fan, but I will agree that the list of remixers is impressive.

Oh man, you paid the extra $8 or whatever? I'm glad I got the regular version - I disliked it so much I sold it right back anyway.

Listening to "Nth Degree" right now, and yes, it is strangly addicting like you said. I really like the guitars.

Already had the Boards of Canada remix, which is top choice, and I liked the Royksopp remix, especially towards the end. Good stuff.

I took the morningwood. Why do I feel dirty for typing that?

Listening will have to wait until I am done watching unlawful entry. :/

Took all, as usual. Loved Morningwood from the start but I think its going to take a couple more listens to the Beck remixes while in a more serious mood to determine if I like just as much as morningwood. Thanks.

I downloaded them all. I have to say I think I like the original of "Missing" better. I love Guero.. and I contemplated getting the remix EP on iTunes but I think these tracks will suffice. I'm listening to Broken Drum and I liiike.

Downloading the other two now.. I think I'll like it. :D

Good post!

I'm only a minute through "Nth Degree" (and I'll probably be finished by the time I finish this comment). I was really attracted to listen to them when you related them to Le Tigre, who I like. I like the electronic vibe and the voice. I like that it doesn't annoy/hurt my ears like Le Tigre does sometimes. I like them. :)
