After his
afternoon adventures, James couldn't wait to find Lily. He was happy to find her, but not exactly pleased that she still hadn't been let in to Gryffindor Tower.
He tried to reason with the Fat Lady. "Certainly, I remember you, dear boy. Now, what is the password?" James didn't know.
Finally, he sat down with Lily on the steps.
"Did you find Sirius?" she asked.
"No, but I have something for you." He produced the willow wand and carefully handed it to her, handle first.
"James, you didn't!" He could only have got this wand from one place, and it made Lily shudder to even think about it.
"I'm afraid I did. But come on, it's the best wand for you. Ollivander even told me so. I have his letter if you want to see. I just want you to be armed best you can."
Lily's head was reeling. "You really got this from where I think you got it?"
"Yeah, I'm afraid I did. But now it's done, and we never have to think about it again."
"How can you
not think about it? What did I look like when you
opened my casket?""I couldn't, I brought Tonks with me. She's married to Moony now, and incredibly brilliant. She opened yours."
Lily was a little heartened to hear of Lupin now having a smart and talented wife. Brave, too, it seemed like. The wand fitting so well into her hand, and feeling so right, wasn't hurting either.
"All right. As long as Harry and Al turn out to be safe, I'll forgive you." Lily turned the wand over in her hands. Reaching behind her, she aimed it at a suit of armour which promptly turned orange. "Yeah, this isn't bad, actually." Her green eyes narrowed just a bit. She may not be happy with the method, but having her wand back was certainly nice. Her own wand.
