| create something positive |
[12 Aug 2008|06:37am] |
the dawning fundraiser happened last Saturday and was, by all accounts, a success. i thought a fun and decidedly different thing to do here on the old internet would be to ask people what the best part of the night was for them. it doesn't have to be anything in particular. it doesn't have to be related to the show, even, if you don't want. just share one thing that happened that night that rocked for you.
there were a few for me, but the one that pops up specifically was that DJ Balfour played "love like blood" by killing joke, and that's one of my favorite songs.

| Can't Wait until August 9th for the Dawning? |
[29 Jul 2008|01:27pm] |
( Check out Umlaut in Downtown Charlottesville THIS THURSDAY! )
If you ever wanted to try Umlaut, NOW is your best chance! Private parties are filling up Rapture's Calendar for the months of August and September. Although we're trying to get an Umlaut on an "off night," this is probably your last chance of the summer to get in the doors and give Umlaut a try. Luckily, DJs AudioRapture and Patrick Allen are more than ready to get you on the dance floor and keep you there. With no other Goth events in the Charlottesville area until August 9th, it's time to get your fix! Remember: Bring two friends who have never been to Umlaut and you get in FREE!

| No Dawning this Weekend? NO PROBLEM! |
[16 Jul 2008|06:52pm] |
With the Dawning taking a month off, we thought getting together for some parties would be a damn good idea, and then realized that a good "Music Appreciation Party" is long overdue.
For those who missed it the last time:
What: Bring a few CDs. We'll be throwing 5 in every hour and hitting random, so at least some of your tracks should get played. Goth. Industrial. Death Rock. Darkwave. EBM. ANYTHING. Bring a disc that got you interested in coming to this scene and share your love with that music with the rest of us. Some alcohol will be provided. Feel free to bring more, as well as snacks and whatever you feel appropriate. Leave behind the gossip, the egos, the drama, and bring, instead, and open mind.
Who: Everyone. Every single person who wants to share their music and receive someone else's. It doesn't matter if we don't know you. Bring a few friends you think might like the music of the Dawning but feel uncomfortable there. All are welcome who want to remember or experience for the first time what Charlottesville became famous for: variety and acceptance.
Where: Chez goober. You can email me (silentmuse AT gmail DOT com) or contact aleiphein or nothingoth if you need directions.
When: This Saturday, July 19. Door opens at 8. Things end when we all get too tired to do it anymore.
( Why? )

| No Dawning in July, but. . . |
[15 Jul 2008|07:18pm] |
August is going to be friggin' sweet!
First off, yes, things had to be scaled back a bit in July. The main reason is, we are holding something huge in August and we need to prepare.
See, August 9th will be a Dawning Fundraiser! I'll be completely straight with you: these are tough times for all venues in Charlottesville, so for right now the Dawning has been renting space and getting a PA through the good graces of others. This event will be your chance to help the Dawning get firmly back on its feet again by covering the expenses of space rentals and a PA. Plus, ideas are currently in the works for this to be a festival of awesome proportions in which you'll be able to get free stuff and share your musical tastes with others like never before. Furthermore, we're lining up three regional bands from various genres who are all going to knock your socks off!
This event will be at DUST on the corner of Meade and Market, but will not be BYOB. Never fear, folks, we've actually gone one step further and will actually have a bar available! Whether you want to dance, drink, enjoy some good bands, share some tunes, or just throw five bucks at us in a donation, August 9th will have something for everybody.
Watch this space for more announcements. Not only will we be telling you more about bands, etc, but there might be a couple of parties on the horizon between now and then! In the meantime, clear your calendar now!
