jessicapendragon@gmail.comWelcome to our growing LJ community known as The Circlet Project. Essentially, we are a writing, editing and reviewing network that strives to increase our knowledge of the written word while learning how to leave concise and helpful critiques in the process. We are dedicated to helping striving writers or those with a serious love for their hobby increase their skills. We are here to encourage our members to write better, but also help with their writing issues, such as story development, beginning or finishing a project, or letting your projects be reviewed by others. If you need a push in your craft, we are here to push you towards your goals.
Currently, we have two Sailor Moon communities, a multi-fandom and an original works community. They are gold_circle, silver_circle, afictionado_com, and storycraft_com . These will offer you a place to discuss and create your fanfiction and original works, get feedback and reviews in a pro-active workshop environment with people like yourself who love writing. The_circlet is our hub of activity where members from all the groups can come and post fun things, ask questions and hear the latest news.
Activities:
Here is a list of all the activities we have so far in the The Circlet Project, and some details of each.
-Coffee Nights-
Want to chat with fellow writers in an informal setting? Need advice, have questions or want to set weekly goals? Coffee Nights are for you! Every Sunday at 8 pm Central time, we hold a casual get together in The Circlet to discuss our writing and life in general. Participation is encouraged, but not mandatory. Every week new discussion questions are posed, but the night is open to whatever is on your mind, so stop by and join us!
-Editing Workshop-
One of the main goals of this project is to improve the writing skills of our members. With our editing workshops, we take a member’s story, chapter or short story, and the group as a whole edits the work. This involves fixing grammar, sentence structure, commenting on the flow and plot, and so on. This process lasts four to six weeks, depending on the length and time the members need. With this activity, we offer feedback to the author about their strengths and weaknesses, and those editing can also improve their writing in return. Participation is mandatory for members.
-Holding Court-
A second goal of the project is to increase the ability to leave concise and helpful reviews. Holding Courts allow an author to post a story, chapter(s) or short story, and the members, instead of editing the piece, discuss the piece with the author and leave well thought out reviews. Authors share with us how they wrote the story, their favorite characters, strengths and weaknesses, etc., and provide the piece, or a link to it if available. Holding Courts lasts as long as the author wishes to continue dialogue about their story and will be held every other month. Once again, Holding Courts are simply to discuss and enjoy each other’s writing, analyze them enough to leave a good review, but not to edit! Participation is mandatory for members.
-Plot Workshop-
Some writers have the most trouble in the planning stages of their writing. Sometimes even prolific writers come across a road block or need help moving their story a long. If this describes you, participating in a Plot Workshop might be something you would like to do. Together, we discuss our plots, characters and settings and offer advice, tips and feedback. Don’t be afraid to bring your writing problems to us; that’s what we’re all here for! These workshops last for two weeks every other month. Participation is not mandatory for members, but of course is encouraged for those who need this kind of workshop.
-Boot Camp-
Boot Camp is an 8-week event held in Storycraft for those who are determined to get some major writing done, but need a little push. It's all about setting goals and meeting them. You are required to make realistic but challenging writing goals every week and you have to meet your goal! Unlike Nanowrimo, there is no set word goal for everyone and you work at your own, set pace. However, miss your goal two weeks in a row and you are kicked out! Miss more than two weeks total during the 8 weeks and you are kicked out! (Of course, next time a BC rolls around, you are very welcome to try again.) Why would you want to be in? Being in the company of writers who are pushing themselves just as much as you makes a difference. We'll help each other out, talk through problems, and have the option to play writers' block-breaking games. Basically, however, we just write. Participation is not mandatory for members.
-Story Bank-
Sometimes we have dry spells in writing, and do not have Editing or Holding Court entries to use each month. With the Story Bank, we hope to avoid this problem by having back up stories available to us. At the end of each month, members submit a story, chapter(s) or short story for us to place into the Story Bank for later use. New members, upon entry, are encouraged to submit a Story Portfolio with at least two examples of their writing. Of course, some authors might not have large story revenues to offer, or were not able to write something significant that month. Members must submit something, however, and if this occurs, you can simply submit a paragraph, plot description, characters, etc. If you cannot do that (because we know some months can be really difficult for personal reasons), please email your moderator or an administrator. We understand some writers have trouble letting others analyze and edit their stories, but in this project we hope to ease your worries, so don’t be afraid to submit your work!
-Challenges-
Seasonal: Will occur every couple months in accordance with the changing of the seasons. The topic will be dealing with something seasonal such as snow, flowers, resolutions, etc. There is a minimum word requirement of 10,000 words and a maximum of 20,000. Stories can be fan-fiction related or originals.
Quick Write: This challenge is unique and fun! Members have the weekend to write a 750 word entry. The challenge is open to any fandom and the winner will be announced at the next Coffee Night.
Other challenges will crop up every once in awhile, but these are our two planned ones.
Rules:
1.) You must have your own personal livejournal account that you can use to post to our community. We do not accept unregistered users for your safety and the safety of your works.
2.) You must be 14 years old or older as there will be adult content found here from time to time.
3.) As we are dedicated in helping our members grow and achieve their goals, we expect a similar dedication. Members are encourage to post and/or participate weekly, and there will be ample opportunities to do so, from various editing and writing projects, prized writing challenges and a weekly talk about our projects here in The Circlet. If you cannot, then we have a notice board so you can let us know, or you may contact one of the mods/administrators. If you are inactive for a total of six weeks consecutively, you will be automatically removed from the project. We, of course, understand the demands of life, like finals, holidays, etc. You may rejoin the project, but it is up to you to do so. Habitual removals might be questioned, however. These rules are here to help you succeed and especially for those that need help staying on task and finishing their projects.
4.) We want this to be a fun learning environment, so please be respectful of your fellow group members and moderators. As such, plagiarism is unacceptable, and if you are caught doing so here or elsewhere, you will be removed permanently.
