‘Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’
— Margaret Mead
So the two politcal post I've made today got me pissed, but you know instead of just being mad at the Republicans for supporting someone like Palin and at McCain for selling out to the right wing. Instead of being angry that they are fighting dirty, I went to Obama website and volunteered. I just signed up for something small, sending postcards to undecided voters, but it madee me feel better than an hour of ranting over coffee with friends. So my flisters I not so humbly suggest that if Palin makes your skin crawl, that if McCain has made you shake your head in dissapointment you do something about it, even if you only have a few spare hours or can only volunteer for one day do it. This election is not guaranteed (not getting into that) so we best work our butts off in any way we can to get the president we want. That said I'm seeing the next president of the US Barack Obama speak tomorrow (it isn't guaranteed but postive thinking can not hurt)
At best if she truly didn't know about this she is incompetent on a spectacular level. If she knew and did nothing then she is a poor excuse for a human being.
FINALLY! days off of work. last week i worked 7 days straight and it was GAY! and not in the "cute shoes! i love your outfit! let's go dancing!" kinda way.
yesterday Glenn and i spent just about aLL day together. we went to Plato's Closet to make some green. we had 2 garbage bags full of clothes each. at the fitting room mirror i gave him techtonic dance lessons. i'm sure everyone in the store thought we were wicked lame but whatever. GOTTA MAKE THAT CHEDDAR. and after all that they didn't even take any of his clothes! but they took some of mine. made $50 and immediately bought new jeans there. so at least i'm still in the +++. the rest of the stuff went to donation except for one hockey jersey near and dear to Glenn's heart. he rescued it at the last moment.
we went shopping for 6 hours around town. and ate. all we wanted yesterday were GRiLLZ. but it's not meant to be quite yet. we'll be getting them by the end of the weekend. *knock on wood* all my fashion decisions now are made by asking myself one question: can i break dance in this? skirts are out of the question. it's the men's rack for me.
later that night was RSC. again. ok really? i need to STOP going there! yea the DJ's cute but he has NO iDEA that i exist so what's the point? the Villains were the guest DJs there last night and the rocked it. we danced all night. then i did some yoga. and then we skated for pizza.
tonight is YELLE! man i'm stoked. maybe i'll go shopping for a new outfit later.
This American Life has down a couple of great shows on this subject. There's also been good information of Bill Moyers and Democracy Now but I think this is a really good place to start.
Back in May, they explained the subprime mortgage crisis. here
And just last week they did this amazing show about the current situation that explains all kinds of things like paper markets and credit default swaps. here
And I get so angry when conservatives try to blame this all on poor people. Because, naturally, poor people were puffing up the housing market, bundling bad mortgages into overvalued securities, and knitting credit default swaps.
The subprime mortgage crisis is a $50-billion problem. What we have here is an international multi-trillion dollar catastrophe. Everyone except Allen Greenspan seems to think the problem is unregulated speculation. Oh yeah, and wackjob conservatives are naturally blaming black people.
In 2002, Greta Van Susteren switched to the Fox News Channel after a highly-publicized contract bidding war. Since then she has hosted the current affairs show On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren, becoming one of the network's more popular personalities in the process, yet her crooked mouth remains a mystery.
Unsurprisingly, perhaps, Senator Joe McCarthy was a longtime friend of her father. During McCarthy's senate career, he resided with the Van Susterens in Appleton when not in Washington.
If you're like me, you're a huge fan of NPR's On the Media, which is possibly the best show on television or radio. If you don't know what you're missing, I guess you should be subscribing to the podcast, consulting your local listings, or at least streaming the individual stories on the site.
BUT, the point is how excited I was by the last episode of Bill Moyers Journal. I subscribe to the podcast and was thrilled to find this video here.
I dwelt alone In a world of moan, And my soul was a stagnant tide, Till the fair and gentle Eulalie became my blushing bride— Till the yellow-haired young Eulalie became my smiling bride.
Ah, less—less bright The stars of the night Than the eyes of the radiant girl! That the vapor can make With the moon-tints of purple and pearl, Can vie with the modest Eulalie’s most unregarded curl— Can compare with the bright-eyed Eulalie’s most humble and careless curl.
Now Doubt—now Pain Come never again, For her soul gives me sigh for sigh, And all day long Shines, bright and strong, Astarte within the sky, While ever to her dear Eulalie upturns her matron eye— While ever to her young Eulalie upturns her violet eye.
