Arrested Development
For those of you that have written papers for class, I was curious as to which episodes you've written about.

I'm writing a research paper on sitcoms this semester for grad school and Arrested Development is one of the five sitcoms that I'm focusing on. I really want to focus on how the network treated it since it was loved by the critics but just couldn't find the audience that FOX wanted.

As a side note, during Just for Laughs in Chicago, I got to meet David Cross.

i haven't written a PAPER paper about it, but there was one class where we had to write a paragraph about a satirical example in a tv show. i used michael's phone call in "the sword of destiny" about their housing contract being cut from 23 houses to 18 and then everyone flipping out about it throughout the episode.

...if that helps at all? <3

that's awesome. i just bought the series on dvd--12.99 on Amazon, thanks to me because I told them about the best buy and target sales! i only watched the second half of season 2 but then fox moved it on me to where it was against a show i watched from the get go.

i love when episodes make references to real life. they did this towards the end of stargate sg-1 if i recall correctly.

I haven't written a paper on an episode, but if you're talking about how the network treated it, you should definitely include "S.O.B." as one of the cases where the show itself made fun of its misfortunes at the hands of FOX. I hope that helps!

Good luck! And as for meeting David Cross, AWESOME :)

There's something you should include in your paper: It was on the special features for (I believe) Season 2, at the end of the blooper reel, when Tobias (David Cross) is wearing the Mrs. Featherbottom costume in the attic with George Sr. and he's talking (out of character) about all the awards they've won, and he lists them all, and then he says that if after all that they still can't find an audience, "...maybe the problem doesn't lie here [with the show]. Maybe it lies in marketing."

I have written a paper about it, but it was about how AD is an example of Postmodernism. Discussed the self-referentiality (such as the "housing order" being cut down like has been mentioned), jokes referring to outside texts (such as the "you're a regular Brad Garrett" line, numerous pop culture references) and the documentary style amongst others.

I can elaborate if its any help :)

Oh and it focused a fair bit on S.O.B.s but other episodes were discussed.

There was also a section about referring to past episodes thinking about it.

I can upload the whole thing for you to check out if you want?

I won't be able to until Friday now as I'm out of the house until then, but if you reply to this it'll remind me when I get back :)
