I would just like to take a few moments to thank those that all participated and assisted in Hogwarts Live Action 5 - The Turnabout Tale. The players managed to help save the day and the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher from a horrible fate.

Now for the future of Hogwarts Live Action, I think we may take at least a year off from it. We've run HLA for over five years now and it is time for a change. Next year may involve a Diagon Alley Live for you die-hard fans but we need to figure what elements you folks most like to make for a wonderful event.

The question becomes what to do next as well. We love family oriented events and still think there are a number of ways to get players of all ages together. Perhaps we were thinking of the world of Narnia, or maybe a universe where everything is possible but held together by a thin thread and together the players must work together to save it.

Anyway just ideas what do you folks think?

The Turnabout Tale Casting Call

Many parts for HLA5 have been cast, but many more are still needed. In addition to being able to play students from Years 1, 3, 5, and 7, the following roles are available:

Ancient Runes Instructor: Prof. Babbling warns her students that those who don't learn from the past are likely to leave their future in ruins.  Not Required. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00, Saturday 10:00-13:00, Saturday 14:00-17:00, Saturday 18:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Arithmancy Instructor: Prof. Vector is an instructor who can be counted on. Not Required. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00, Saturday 10:00-13:00, Saturday 14:00-17:00, Saturday 18:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Charms Instructor: Prof. Flitwick may lack charm, but can cast charms with the best of them. Not Required. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00, Saturday 10:00-13:00, Saturday 14:00-17:00, Saturday 18:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Dervish & Banges: The place for magical equipment sales and service. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00.

Divinations Instructor: Has Prof. Trelawny inherited the gift of her ancestors, or is she a fraud? Not Required. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00, Saturday 10:00-13:00, Saturday 14:00-17:00, Saturday 18:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Flying Instructor: Md. Hootch teaches flying to first years and Qudditch to the second through seventh years.  Required for Saturday 10:00-11:00, Saturday 14:00-15:00, and Saturday 16:00-17:00. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00  and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Gladrags Wizardwear: The place for formal and informal wizardwear. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00.

Groundskeeper: Hagrid is a half-giant whose love of monsters is equal to his love of the students and faculty of Hogwarts. Not Required. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00, Saturday 10:00-11:00, Saturday 14:00-17:00, Saturday 18:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Gryffindor Ghost: Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington is better known following his execution with a blunt axe as Nearly-headless Nick. Not Required.

The Hog's Head: A dark and dirty inn whose clientele prefers not to be seen. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00.

Hogwart's Express Candy Cart Sales Representative: Sweets from the sweet. Required for Friday 19:00-20:00 and Sunday 11:00-12:00.

Hogwart's Express Ticket Taker: The first and last person to see students for the school year. Required for Friday 19:00-20:00 and Sunday 11:00-12:00.

Honeydukes Sweetshop: Mr. and Mrs. Flume live above their business. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00.

Hufflepuff Ghost: The Fat Friar is a friendly, jolly fellow. Not Required.

Librarian: Md. Pince runs a spectacular magical library. Not Required.

Madame Puddifoot's: Md. Puddifoot runs a tea room for lovers. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00.

Muggle Studies Instructor: Professor Burbage is quick to point out as strange as muggles are, you never know when you might need to know about them. Not Required. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00, Saturday 10:00-13:00, Saturday 14:00-17:00, Saturday 18:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Nurse: Md. Pomfrey fixes up students and faculty in the medical wing. Not Required.

Poltergist: Peeves is a prankster with a slightly evil bent. Not Required.

Ravenclaw Ghost: The Grey Lady is well learned, but never met a man who was up to her standards for marriage. Not Required.

Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop: Replace your quills at this establishment. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00.

Slytherin Ghost: The Bloody Baron never speaks, scares the other ghosts, and has the respect of Peeves. Not Required.

The Three Broomsticks: Md. Rosmerta owns and operates this student-friendly pub. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00

Transfiguration Instructor: Prof. McGonagall is such a transfiguration master that she is a cat animagus. Not Required. Could be used for Friday 19:00-20:00, Saturday 10:00-13:00, Saturday 14:00-17:00, Saturday 18:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-11:00.

Water Closet Ghost: Moaning Myrtle often haunts the girl's restroom on the second floor, and can even splash water from the toilets! Not Required.

Zonko's Joke Shop: The place for fun and practical jokes. Shopkeepers Required for Friday 21:00 – 22:00 and Saturday 15:00-16:00.

If you will be attending Phoenix Congames, June 12-15, 2008 in Mesa, AZ or want to help us out please post here with an ID and/or a means of contacting you. I will go ahead and put screening on this post with the intent that no information will be divulged unless you would like it.

Simply place PUBLIC at the beginning of the message and I'll reveal it.

It has been a number of months since a recent entry, but we have some great news. We have reacquainted at the Ren-Faire with some of the folks that want to help us out. Curious enough other folks also called us that same day so it looks like our requests have been heard, so thank you whoever you are.

We have the basic plot ready and it looks like we will be moving forward in the next few weeks. So look forward to more regular postings.

  Well it has been a couple months since the book has been released and since we last posted. So let the games begin, or rather continue. We have a premise for the new story but where will it take place at is one question, and of course now we have the option to continue past where the last book left off.

  Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry could only have one Quidditch team participate in the Hermean Duster Derby. So, rather than splitting the school by letting only one house participate, school wide tryouts were held for a united team. The Hogwarts United team consisted of students from all four houses. The three chasers were Bethy Blue, Tink Erbell, and Bunny Meir. The two beaters were Bunny Ninja and Selena. The keeper was Ishmael. The seeker was Joseph Flynt. And the team captain was Selena the beater. Congratulations to the team, which made it to the Hermean Duster Derby finals!

Just wanted to thank you all for attending Hogwarts Live Action: The Tarnished Snitch at Congames 2007. At this time we are compiling your comments, unpacking and unwinding. We'll discuss the specific comments later in this journal that we managed to collect at the convention.

Still feel free to provide feedback at this time while the ideas are fresh in your mind. This journal does allow anonymous replies (once reviewed) to be posted on this LJ.

With that said we were very pleased with the attendance we topped at about 24 players. We also had a number of folks that helped us at the last minute which we are sincerely appreciative of.   I am working with some friends in video and seeing if we have enough time to do a small 15-30 second teaser for HLA 4: The Tarnished Snitch.

Live Action Quidditch Test Run at Leprecon XXXIII

  I went ahead and ran Live Action Quidditch at the convention per Figment's request. Here are the highlights, and comments, and criticism.

The action elements of each role seemed enjoyed by all the players.

Players had a sense of being involved in a Quidditch match.

The role action elements had a lot of motion.

Each role had appropriate actions associated with it.

We will be running three Live Action Quidditch events at Congames 2007, they can be found at

1st Quidditch Event

2nd Quidditch Event

Final Quidditch Event

Dependent on the amount of players is what version will be played (so register now), ideally we want all fourteen players maybe even a few watchers, minimum requirements would be eight to do the Live Action elements successfully with minimal confusion. The card game though could be played with as few as two people.
