[info]faxpaladin: Fort Worth housefilk canceled

I'm late posting this, and I apologize for that, but the housefilk scheduled for tomorrow in Fort Worth has been canceled (something's come up for the host). There's still the one in Houston, though...

[info]faxpaladin: Plano housefilk repost, with addition

There will be a housefilk at 7 pm Saturday at the Nelson home in Plano, 3320 Newkirk Drive.

Stephen Nelson says: "Our home number is (972) 596-7637.

"There is a Fuzzy puppy dog. She will welcome visitors to her house. She can be put in the backyard as long as no one minds singing over the whimpering. However, it would take an act of Ghod to get rid of all the Fuzzy fur.

"The pre-filk dinner will be at 5:00pm at Great Wall Super Buffet, 901 W Plano Parkway. Prices are reasonable ($8.95 for buffet, 1.50 for drink). They also have a menu.

"Here is their website with directions. The cross streets are Alma and US 75."

[info]faxpaladin: Update, Part One: Housefilks

Update coming tonight at long last to the Texas Filk website. Here are the highlights:

• Housefilk starting at 7 p.m. Jan. 20, a week from Saturday, at the Nelson home in Plano, 3320 Newkirk Drive.

Stephen Nelson says: "Our home number is (972)596-7637.

"There is a Fuzzy puppy dog. She will welcome visitors to her house. She can be put in the backyard as long as no one minds singing over the whimpering. However, it would take an act of Ghod to get rid of all the Fuzzy fur.

"For food, we were thinking about meeting for a pre-filk dinner at one of the local restaurants. We have Chinese, Greek, Thai, Italian, Indian, all within a couple miles. If we can get an idea of what the group would prefer? I can put up directions to the restaurant too. Time about 2 hours before, say 5 pm.

"Otherwise, we'll provide drinks and snacks."

• 18th Annual Caliegh House Filk, 5 pm Feb. 3 in Denton; Laura Easterling is hosting it. E-mail her for directions and details at faylara (at) ureach (dot) com.

• Houston-area housefilk at Kandy Jarvis' home Feb. 17; details to come.

Hope to see you there!

[info]faxpaladin: DFW housefilk

This is supposed to be going out on the mailing list as well, but that seems to be nonfunctional at the moment...

In the interest of getting things set relatively early this time: We have a nomination for a housefilk the afternoon of Oct. 21 at Jerry Masters' house in north Dallas, followed by a group excursion that evening to the Tipperary Inn in central Dallas, where the Brobdingnagian Bards are playing from 8 pm to midnight. ([info]sandy_tyras, I did inquire in a phone call to the inn as to cost: There is no cover charge.)

Objections?

[info]faxpaladin: Let's talk housefilks

Now that the con calendar is a little less busy, let's talk housefilks. The hope is to get regular housefilks going (on the order of once every month or two) in each of the DFW, Austin and Houston areas. So we're looking for hosts in the Austin area (I know Dene, who has an LJ account that I can't find at the moment, is working on the Houston end). If you're interested, post here or e-mail me at faxpal (at) swbell (dot) net.

Meanwhile, Jerry Masters is willing to have another go for a housefilk at his place in north Dallas. Saturday, Oct. 21 has been floated for a date. Sound good to everybody?

"I have a gas grill if people want to cook. I'll probably have some burgers and maybe some chicken to throw on it. Just remember the House rule: Don't bring anything that you wouldn't want to take the leftovers home with you."

[info]faxpaladin: Housefilk tomorrow, Carla in 3 weeks

Up in Fort Worth, the Tyras are going to be busy in the coming weeks: Housefilk tomorrow (6 p.m. -- again, email sandy at sandy (at) sa-tech (dot) com for details and directions) and a house concert with Carla Ulbrich Friday, May 12 (again, e-mail for directions). The former is free; for the latter, a $10 donation is requested to feed the bard --

Feed the bard, ten bucks a gig
ten bucks, ten bucks, ten bucks a gig...

Sez Gerry: "RSVP (somewhere over 20 people, it goes to SRO). We'll be providing a little of this and a little of that to eat and drink, but feel free to bring along anything else."

He further states: "On Saturday, May 13th, Carla will be opening for the Austin Lounge Lizards, two great tastes (short and sweet, old and crusty) that taste great together.

Open Door Coffeehouse, Trinity United Methodist Church,

[info]faxpaladin: Housefilk reminder

[info]faxpaladin: The housefilk's on and Carla's in

First off, welcome to all the new folks; the "pledge drive" of the past week has so far very nearly tripled the population of the community...

We're on for a DFW area housefilk -- it'll be at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in Fort Worth, hosted by [info]sandy_tyras. You can e-mail her for directions and information. We're still looking to start another series of housefilks in the Austin or Houston area in the next couple months; anyone interested in hosting, post here or give me a shout (also anyone interested in joining the DFW rotation).

[info]msminlr already posted about Carla Ulbrich's Texas tour starting this weekend, but a date got added after she posted, ideal for after AggieCon: Sunday night at 8 at Dean's Credit Clothing, 316 Main in Houston. Better yet, there's no cover charge! Margaret's link above has info on the two performances Friday and Saturday in Dallas and the house concert Saturday week, April 1, in Austin.

Details coming soon (hopefully) about AggieCon this weekend...

[info]faxpaladin: All-Con, AggieCon and housefilk

All-Con 2 is being held this weekend at the Sterling Hotel in Dallas. The Brobdingnagian Bards will perform at 6 p.m. in the House of Commons (the function rooms have a British theme), then host an open filk in the same room starting at 11 p.m. On Sunday in the Edinburgh House room they'll have a panel at 11 a.m., then a 2-hour "Write Filk With the Bards" workshop at 1 p.m.

AggieCon 37, the next weekend on the A&M campus in College Station, will have Friday and Saturday night open filking (when and where precisely isn't set yet; apparently they're not going to release the schedule online). There will be a Filk 101 panel, and possibly a Firefly filk panel (if there isn't the latter we'll just designate the first hour of the Saturday night filk as having a Firefly/Serenity theme). There will also be a concert by author Guest of Honor Steven Brust (his show last year at ConDFW was pretty cool stuff).

We're looking for someone, possibly multiple someones, to host housefilks in April and May. We have one going fairly regularly in the DFW area; in addition to that, I'd like to see if we can get an Austin- or Houston-area housefilk, to feed off AggieCon and feed into ApolloCon coming up in June in Houston. Anybody interested in hosting (or attending), post here or e-mail me at faxpal@swbell.net.

Oh, and happy Pi Day!

"Her tentacles were long and lithe and sheathed in silky fur,
And who'd have guessed I'd fall in love with her..."
-- "Proteins," Blake Hodgetts

Come filk with us Saturday evening -- Valentine's Day may be a few days past by then, but we'll still be in the mood for love songs, whether genuinely romantic, silly, perverse, or given an SF/fantasy twist. (There'll doubtless be some "normal" filk songs in there as well...)
