Character Application - Sam Rothstein

Name: Sam 'Ace' Rothstein
Fandom: Casino (Movie)
PB: Robert De Niro
Alignment: Grey

Sam Rothstein runs the Tangiers Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, ably assisted in most of his actions by Nicky Santoro (more of which later). He is married, though perpetually estranged, to Ginger.

Sam is guilty by association, which is always something that has troubled him. Loosely connected to the mafia bosses of Detroit through his unusually successful gambling habits from childhood, he became a notorious gambler and bookmaker, eventually being rewarded The Tangiers by his bosses, in return for heavy, and regular, returns.

He has survived several asassination attempts and been responsible for maybe one unsuccessful one. Compared to his cohorts, namely the one previously mentioned Nicky Santoro, Sam is a sheep with a liking for the quiet, simpler and more sophisticated life. He has a liking for sharp and garish suits, Gitanes and he loves his daughter more than he covets his wife.

Sam likes his business overtly kosher, though will be willing to dig the odd grave in the desert if the need arises, as long as it doesn't affect his press releases.

Whilst we leave canon in the midst of sentimental rose-tinted meandering, our Sam is still running the Tangiers, not too sure just where his wife is.

Nicky Santoro will follow shortly, as I will be running lines (as per the norm) for both.

Nice to have Ginger's other half here! Welcome to Tenebrae Nostro, it's fabulous to have a mortal among us. Yes, I know, odd thing to say but we were lacking in them ;) If you could do me one favour please: your userinfo page is lovely but this little snippet you gave us here (which tells us a little bit about the movie) would be quite useful in your userinfo page for those who don't know much about the movie. Sam appeared to almost look right through the detective. This wasn't exactly the first time he'd been faced with a member of one law enforcement department or another, determined to prove his prick was bigger than the next man. ll these men with their bravado and cool posturing were all much the same, until they proved otherwise, which was rare.

He lit a Gitanes, raising his chin almost imperceptibly and exhaled, a jet of acrid blue grey smoke veering heavenward.

Finally, his focus turned directly to the man in front of him.

"I'm sorry, did you say something? I wasn't really listening."

Sam smiled for the first time, fixing the man with a steely glare, pointing an index finger at the man.

"..and it's Mr Rothstein."
