[‘Alba’, Ezra Pound]
He wakes to sunlight, warm and gentle against his closed eyelids, and he wakes to the sensation of fingers trailing slowly down the length of his spine. Like a graceful cat, he arches his back, purrs contentedly, and feels more than hears the soft hum at his ear.
Aoe Kiichi opens his eyes to sunlight and the face of his lover.
“Beautiful,” he whispers whimsically.
The man that lies beside him quirks an eyebrow upward, and his deep voice rumbles in his chest as he speaks. “You read my mind.”
Kiichi’s laughter rings softly and pleasantly through the bedroom, and his lover is almost tempted to smile in return. However, Kashima Haruomi’s face never alters in expression as he lowers his head and places a single, dry kiss on the warm skin of Kiichi’s neck, before leaning back against his pillow.
They lie there silently, naked except for the thin cotton sheets tangled around their bodies, and they listen to the rhythm of each other’s breathing. The atmosphere of quiet, sunlit morning is eventually interrupted when Haruomi murmurs, “I was thinking…”
“That you want to shag me rotten?”
Haruomi has to restrain another smile; Kiichi sounds too hopeful to be joking.
“No, unfortunately,” he replies evenly. “I was watching you sleep, and the sunlight on your face reminded me of a poem I once read.”
Kiichi’s voice is languid as he demands, “Tell me.”
Another kiss, as warm and soft as the one that came before it, and then that deep, deep voice murmurs,
“As cool as the pale wet leaves
of lily-of-the-valley
She lay beside me in the dawn.”
Kiichi lays his head on one broad, sun-kissed shoulder, feels warmth blooming in vivid streaks of red within his chest, and whispers, “Don’t think I didn’t notice the ‘she’, Haru. I am not your woman.”
“No, of course not,” the other man answers calmly.
Haruomi’s eyes close against the sunlight as he feels a soft kiss on the side of his neck.
