Hey Folks!
Unfortunately I couldn't be around for the big finale because my RL was quite busy. But reguardless, its been one HECK of a ride!
I've been flitting about HE for seven-ish years and I have to admit its still goes down as my most favorite game I've ever played on. I met some really great people, drew some really fun art, and had some of the greatest RP I've ever had in my long time on the 'net. So thank you all for a wonderful game and for making Abigail one of the most fun, crazy, complicated, and well rounded characters I've ever played.:)
I hopefully will A-Write an Epilogue for anyone curious to what happened to the Hitchcock clan. B-Will be on the new game coming up even though I don't know much about Dresden Files (This has never stopped me before. Beware of this, Rane;)) and C-Will be playing on Witchcraft and Wizardry which is a new HP game Hitch has been puttering around with (yay for more HP chaos!). So please come join me in any of those endevors!

Sadly, I couldn't be around for the end. I decided to enroll in a study abroad program in the Netherlands this semester so actually RPing before summertime became relatively impossible. I lament leaving so many loose ends that needed tying. I'll just say that I'm so glad I could even be part of the game for seven-ish years. It did indeed take up much of my life a while ago (but getting into college changed that a bit). I've gone through so many characters and so many phases of my life have been transcribed through RPs, it's really hard to let go. But as they say, all amazingly wonderful things must come to an end. And so it has.
As soon as I work out what happened to my characters, I'll post some sort of Epilogue/amazing act of closure. Until then, for anyone who wants to keep in touch or possibly become better friends with me, here's my contact info:

Although I could not contribute much to the plots, I really enjoyed occasional scenes within the school sphere. Main problem (or a good thing for not being able to get addicted) was CET time zone, not lack of interest. I apologize for that. Lara and her player say good bye and thank you for this awesome game, to the players as well as to the staff who put a lot of effort on strictly staying within the canon and setting up a place for high-quality RP without feature characters. It was exactly what I was looking for and what made HE distinct from other HP themed games around.

This morning, the Linux machine that runs the game did some rather worrying things, so I'm suspecting that my hardware is on its last legs. No one panic, because I do have backups and nothing should be lost, but there may be some downtime coming along as Xavier and I put together a new server from our spare odds and sods. Not sure when we'll make the transfer, not sure how long downtime will be, but it's as inevitable as the tide. Hopefully by the end of the weekend we'll be done, and hopefully no one will even notice cos it'll go that smoothly.

This was originally posted by Rane on 7th of December, 2008. It's being slapped up here since it was brought to my attention some former players are looking for information regarding the closing of Hogwarts Express in August 2009.
With A Bang, Not A Whimper
I'm sure the entire playerbase has noticed by now that what appear to be some odd decisions are coming out of staff. Such as closing down some of the school characters and doing a sweeping, world shattering, major plot. Or handing out special potentially game breaking powers like candy.
Several months ago the Admin observed that directly after the last book came out, our logins plummeted. In addition, the number of new characters plummeted. We are aware of the app and its problems, and took that into account as we began evaluating the situation. We noted that Voldemort had fallen in the timeline of our own game and that interest was sliding further and further away. In addition, we noticed our own waning lack of ability to churn out brand new stuff and adventures for the Harry Potter theme. We also looked around the net to discover MUSHing in HE Land had waned completely--we are the only HP game that isn't pretty much dead as far as we could tell. We faced a choice--did we hold on as long as we could, fighting until the logins dwindled down to nothing--or did we go ahead and acknowledge that all games end, make a plan, deliver an awesome final tinyplot that ties up every loose end we can think of, and close the game with a bang?
The conclusion we finally came to was that doing the latter was more within the spirit of the game and the play that we've done here. Which is why this plot is stirring up huge, legendary, sweeping things, handing out special potentially game breaking powers, and has stakes that are so high that it would be impossible to top them afterwards in the scope of this game. Because this is the Endplot. After this, we will sign the End to the game and let it go as all good stories do. Our timeline for the conclusion of the story is going to be August of 2009; any personal stories that need to be wrapped up should get wrapped up by that time.
As of January 1, 2009, the game will be closed to any new characters. No more applications will be accepted. In addition, this will be the final quidditch season on screen, so that we may turn our attention to ensuring that this final plot is as awesome as it possibly can be.
It is my hope that all of you will stay to see the story through to its very end. I also will be offering a single lining for those of you who enjoy my Admin style and the storytelling style of myself and the other staffers who have worked hard here. I will put that in my next post.

Obviously, I adore MUSHing and telling great stories. I and the staff are just desperate for new materials. We already have mostly completed a new MUSH that I'd like to see all of you join us on. It would be set in the Dresden Files universe, New Orleans. At the end of the plot, there will be an Epilogue scene that will be open to every player. In the Epilogue, the players will be given an IC choice--after death will they go on to a peaceful afterlife, or will they agree to reincarnate in universe after universe, over and over again until they have done for each world what they will ultimately do for the HE world? Thus--anyone who wants to reincarnate an HE character, making some changes but preserving other things--into the new game will be more than welcome to do so. I fully intend to have Adelaide over there in reincarnate form!
It is not a total teleport of the character--characters will be reborn, reincarnates, not total cookie cutter replacements. If anyone would like me to put up a post of how I'll be handling the reincarnation of Adelaide so they can get some examples, I will--otherwise I won't spam the board. However it means we do not have to leave beloved chars 100 behind, and we can work them through new issues, relationships and hitherto unexplored concepts. People who were merely friends before might end up family now, and people who were family only friends or acquaintances. Characters might be older or younger (or a different gender, if you're feeling brave). Characters might have a slightly different name (as in Del Decoudreau) or an entirely different name that is completely different from what they have now.
Soulfire will open to play just about the same day that Hogwarts Express closes, and I will have a kickoff event already in place after people have had a chance to get on and chargen. The hated app system (which everyone on the current Admin opposed by the way, but it was a PITA to change it once certain previous Admin stuck it into place) will disappear, by the by.
