05:54 pm - Ted in Planet Raptor on Sci-Fi, Sun. 1/25 @ 9 PM
This film was shot back in spring of 2005 in Romania by the same production company that did Bruce Campbell's Alien Apocalypse and Man w/ the Screaming Brain the previous year in Bulgaria. AA (and Xena/Herc/Jack) director Josh Becker was offered the gig, but passed it along to his buddy, AA/Brain second unit director (and fellow XWP/HTLJ/Evil Dead alum) Gary Jones. The screenwriter, Steve Latshaw, said : I think you'll like this film... it's basically a space western... RIO BRAVO meets ALIENS with dinosaurs... the pacing is relentless and the cast was top notch. Stephen Bauer plays a very Duke Wayne-esque military leader (think She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Sands of Iwo Jima) battling both raptors and scientists (including Ted Raimi as Dr. Tygon). Hope you enjoy it.
Its original title was "Raptor Island 2: Raptor Planet," although it really has nothing to do with the first Raptor Island film. Although Stephen Bauer, who played an Arab terrorist in the first one, is back as a different character, a tough US soldier. This is one description from Mainline Releasing: It is the year 2066 and U.S.S Santee orbits the Alpha Centauri solar system when the mission, run by Commander Bakewell, receive an urgent SOS from planet AC9. Raptors have attacked and it is up to Captain Mace Carter and his team to restore safety to the galaxy. Ravaged by the deadly animals, Carter and his crew find the planet under extreme warfare and take cover in the only place they can find, a medieval castle amid the ruins. Running out of food and ammo, their ranks are decimated one by one as they struggle to stay alive and discover the secret of the aliens.
There's a trailer at that site, or you can see it here.
This was a slightly different blurb: The year 2066. U.S.S. Santee receives an S.O.S. from planet AC9. As the rescue team, led by captain Mace Carter, is beamed to the surface a giant, prehistoric raptor attacks the team and one soldier gets dragged away. On their search for the missing team member they realize, that the whole planet is alive with those raptors. But an ionic storm prevents them from getting back to their space ship. Trapped on this otherworldly arena together with monstrous raptors the rescue mission turns into a deadly nightmare.
Vanessa Angel, the woman who very nearly played Xena, and a veteran of many films like this (Sabretooth, Raging Sharks, Out for Blood) plays a scientist, Dr. Anna Rogers. Musetta Vander, Athena's favorite warrior Ilianis in "The Siege of Amphipolis," co-stars as Sgt. Jacqueline "Jack" Moore; she's best known as the Praying Mantis lady in Buffy, as the star of Mansquito, and as one of the three sirens in "O Brother..."
Peter Jason, the President in Alien Apocalypse and a veteran of nearly 200 other tv and film productions going back to Here Come the Brides, Land of the Giants and John Carpenter's They Live, plays another sergeant, Pappy Mathis. It premieres on Sun. Jan. 25th at 9 PM EST on Sci-Fi.
