Team USA's blog as we get ready for WCS 2008!

Its been a while! [May. 12th, 2009|08:53 pm]

Are we still relevant? Probably not, but hey, I'd figure some people would like an update!

Team USA 2009 are well underway to completing their costumes for Nagoya and they look spectacular. Check them out [info]wcs_teamusa09.

What about in the life of Sonnya and Renee? Lets start with Renee!

From November 7th to the 9th, Renee traveled to Denmark to help choose the representatives for the World Cosplay Summit!

Hard at work!

She came home, supported the new WCS team heavily, went to many events such as KRAZY!

Here she is with Team USA 2009.

And then the worst possible thing happened, Renee moved to Korea for a year to teach English.

Okay I say its the worst thing ever because not only I, but many of her friends back home miss her terribly, but she's been hanging out with Lee-san (Hi Lee-San!) and Big Kong and Little Kong (Hi Kongs!) and having a great time and having a spectacular experience. To read more about Renee's exploits in the land of kimchi, please check out her blog!

And that's been the update on Renee's front!

On my front, I've been a recluse by going to school. Yup! School! Its been kicking my butt, but it feels so good to be back in school. Because of this, costume making has taken a backseat, so I don't really have much to update. I've done a couple of costumes here and there.

I will be going to Guadalajara, Mexico on May 22nd - 24th for Tour ConComics with my boyfriend, Chris/[info]4ng31! If you're in the vicinity, please feel free to stop by and say hello!

My schedule for ConComics!

Also, I'm a cosplay guest of honor at ColossalCon 2009 from June 4th -7th. Same deal, stop by and say hi!

My Schedule for Colossal:

Subculture of Cosplay- @ 5pm Friday
Friday Cosplay Judging - @ 7-9pm Friday
Swimsuit Cosplay Judging- @ 9:30-10:15pm Friday

Advanced Cosplay - @ 10am Saturday
Emcee Saturday Cosplay - @ 6:15-9pm Saturday
What Not To Cosplay - @ 10pm Saturday

So I guess that's it? Yea, that seems to be it. Take care everyone! ♥

Our buddies from the 09' Australian Team sent me this .pdf of the article that we and many of the other teams were interviewed for by Marie Claire.

Apparently, I'm Giorno. Good times. You can read our little blurb there and France's blurb also.

Oh man, this journal has been pretty quiet lately, hasn't it. OH WELL, time for links!

Here's our skit, this time with full audio. I'm sure everyone's seen it by now, but I might as well include the link for completionist's sake:

And here are two videos I'm SUPER excited to post. During the parade, Team Osaka taught us osaka slang for 'super hot', because the weather was retardo -

[Current Mood | cheerful]

105 degrees Farenheit... and I'm guessing somewhere between 95-100% humidity. Now.. imagine sitting out in that for 2 hours in spandex that didn't breathe.

Note to future team: Bring a serious misting fan.

After we were done on stage, Rens and I literally ran to the ice water bucket and doused ourselves in water.. and it was the best feeling in the world.

Hey everyone, Renee here! A lot of people already found the skit video online, even if the sound hasn't been added yet, but here's a link: http://www.tv-aichi.co.jp/wcs/e/index.html

I wanna say congrats to Brazil, China, and Osaka, but everyone really did a FANTASTIC job. Uwaaaa, this was such a fun experience. Note to next year's team though - Oasis 21, where the event was held, is outdoors, please prepare yourself.

Also, I seriously need to kidnap Team China and make them be my sisters, they are the hottest nerds I have ever met, and the nicest people on earth.

Team Osaka? Not only our BFFs, but totally coming to NYAF!!! Oh god everyone, they are the coolest chicks ever, let's all hang out together.

Sonnya and I have picked up so many mannerisms while we've been here, feel free to laugh at me at Otakon when I go 'EEEEEEEEEH?!?" And our 'EXTREME SPRING BREAK' move? Totally means 'ja nai' here - we've confused quite a few people with that.

We've picked up a lot of advice for next year's team, and we are here for you guys 200%. The number one thing though, is to do something that you love, and have fun doing it, and the rest will be a breeze :3

This has been one of the coolest experiences of my life, and I've had so much fun. Sonnya, you are my sister from another mother and my partner in crime, it's been an absolute joy being fabulous with you ♥

So the results are in! [Aug. 3rd, 2008|09:20 am]

[Current Mood |accomplished]

We didn't win.

BUT THAT'S OKAY! We went there are reconnaissance for future TEAM USA and we gathered up a lot of info for our teams that will GUARENTEE A WIN!

Brazil won first place for their Burst Angel skit. It was all sorts of awesome with mechas, and girls in panties and it shot out smoke and bullets came out. Too awesome.

Second Place went to our friends, China, who did such a spectacular show with fans and...soooo romantic looking!

And Third went to our BFFs, Team Japan (Osaka), who did.. no joke the sexiest yaoi skit...ever. And that's a lot coming from someone like me who actually hates all things yaoi. I was SWOONING! We invited them to come to NYAF, so their tickets are booked and Rens and I will be showing them around NYC. They are soooooo GORGEOUS!

Everyone did really well, and we are really proud to have performed on stage. We got such a cool crowd reaction for doing JOJO, so that's good enough for us. We got to mingle with some cool Japanese cosplayers after the show! Good times all around.

Now, I'm sure people have the question in their mind.. IS THIS NoISE RIGGED?

And I can say that they are NOT rigged. At all. People who deserved to win, did. Regardless of press or anything. So please..PLEASE try out for WCS, we've had such a spectacular experience that we'll carry with us for the rest of our lives.

And Renee and I are going to start saving now to go to Comiket next year! Japan is AMAZING!

Oh and again..it was balls hot outside. Poor Renee in her costume.. gg.

Drawbacks and Parades, oh my. [Aug. 3rd, 2008|12:41 am]

s0nified
So.. Stone Free was damaged during shipping. BUT, I'm a pro at backup plans. So we're playing up Stone Free's string abilities.

The parade was yesterday. My dress and wig got SO MUCH DAMAGE from all the people bombarding us. Also couldn't wear most of the costume due to the heat. Anna was kind enough to get me an ice pack to keep me from basically dying out there. I can't even begin to describe how fucking hot it was.. IT WAS NASTY.

Imagine Otakon and its heat + humidity. Now.. multiply that by about 100. Plus the dress was heavy. Needless to say, shit was not in our favor. I feel even worse for Korea in their D. Gray Man costumes.. poor guys. Oh well, its a good thing parade-chan is not FABULOUS-CHAN (which btw, we are putting on now.. 4 hours early.)

Our nails.. are covered in sparkles and rhinestones. How gay and fabulous can we get? If we could only roll around in glitter and sparkles, we could.

Onigiri and Milk Tea for breakfast. [Aug. 2nd, 2008|10:38 am]

s0nified
I... love this country.

So I guess an update? We met the rest of the teams and everyone has been great so far. In fact, last night Rens, Anna and I went eating (holy crap, I ate shrimp brains) with the Osaka team. They are so VISUAL KEI, in fact they are in a band. Fabo.

So we went to Karaoke, belted out some Queen and the likes. Drank. More singing. Etc.

We got assigned our numbers. We are...I think either 8 or 9. So being that we are on the B team, we had to go to Centrair Airport and put on a little show for the crowd. We bonded with the Chinses team, where they told us that in China they compete in teams of like... 40! They all work very hard and do their best and the Chibese team was chosen out of like..800 people. CRAZY! They are also models (we totally called it) and SUPERNERDY! So cute *3*. Italy has GORGEOUS Trinity Blood costumes, which was a relief cause we were scared that this will be the only year ever that no one did TB. Germany cosplayed as Chobits, Singapore did Gundam Seed Destiny and Brazil did Street Fighters and Saint Seiya (raburabu).

Then after all was said and done, we went to rehersal. Holy.. fuck balls. HOT AND HUMID NAGOYA IS HOT.. AND VERY FUCKING HUMID. Poor Renee with her fabulous pants, dying. We had a great rehersal, we are probably the only FABULOUS team with our shiny ass pants.

Okay I ought to go back to the hotel and practice some more. See you all!

EDIT!

Also.. somehow we got stuck in a hotel that only has 2 irons for the entire place..

I can see this ending in bloodshed. We are ready to throw down for an iron.

[Current Mood | calm]

Okay.. long day.. was EXTREMELY LONG.

We had TV Aichi hang out with us today as we went to Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjuku and Asakusa...and it was fucking CRAZY.

We first made our way to Harajuku and to put it plainly.. its fabulous. Stores all over the place. We also got gifts! Renee got this awesome EGA/Classic Lolita outfit and I got this Punkish style with some kickass Doc Martens, totally boss since none of the button up shirts fit me. Damn these tits! I also got one of the greatest crepes with strawberries EVAR! Glorious indeed!

We went to Shibuya where Renee proceeded to geek out over the 109 and other crap that she's seen in TWEWY. We were there for a total of 2.5 second before we headed over to Asakusa. Traditional wasn't even the word for it, more like WTFAMIINTHEEDOPERIOD?? NANI DESU KA???

We prayed to the temple gods and got fortunes.. which was funny cause Renee and I got the same fortune, wtf.. that never happens. We got red bean buns, oocha and then we ate at the tiniest restaurant everrrr for soba and udon. Again..delicious! OH, so I had to take a raging piss so I asked for the toileto and was confronted with some crazy ass hole on the floor.

And I managed not to miss, A+ and a Gold STAR for Soni! I got to check that off my list of things to do.

Anyways, we headed over to Shinjuku where the other teams are staying (Brazil and France). It was gonna be our hotel also, but we had the one we're staying for an extra day and couldn't cancel, baww. But not too much baww cause our hotel is nice anyways!

So We met France and Brazil and they were nice. You know.. even though we had a language barrier (most with Brazil.. I had to somehow managed to translate despite my extreme lack of knowledge in Portuguese). We did come across some interesting information which we weren't made aware of. Apparently, Gabriel, the male team member of Brazil made a Goku costume from DBZ and was not allowed to bring it because DBZ's company said to TV Aichi "Yo, brosephs, none of that noise on TV!" So... that was that. Duly noted.

But yea, everyone was exhausted, I'm exhausted and I'm about to go to sleep cause tomorrow we get into our MKR costumes, meeting the Vice Foreign Minister.. in costumes (facepalm.jpg) and then traveling to Nagoya tomorrow night via shinkansen (bullet train...whattt) where we'll proceed to meet the other teams.

I'm much too tired to upload videos or pictures plus we haven't done the converting cause its not my computer I'm on so I'm not going to download anything, baww. I'm keep record of everything.

An update of sorts, mostly for the fams, but you too! [Jul. 28th, 2008|08:26 pm]

s0nified
[Current Mood |determined]

So no videos yet until I can figure out how to convert .mpgs to something that iMovie will read. Lamesauce.

Regardless.. we went to Akiba yesterday and just about had the worst amount of GEEKING OUT! Renee bought some badass Bucciarati figurine, I got some Gurren SMUT and Yoko's character book and a Yoko mug and some gashapon crap of Lagann and Yoko cellphone cleaner. I was thisclose to buying the Rovoltech GL but opted against it since I don't have *that* much money to spend even though it was only like.. 20 bucks.

I also trying out catching UFOs, namely this Chopper one to bring back for my friend Nick, but I learned that I suck at it. Lots of western folks were around Akiba..lots.

ALSO! We checked out some cosplay stores, holy shit they have resin gems for sale. Rens and I facepalmed several times and costumes range from 100-400 bucks generally, and they are all really nice quality. If I had money, I would've bought myself a school uniform or some crap.

AND! ANDDDD WE ATE SOME JAPANESE FUCKING STEAK THAT COST WAYYYYYYYYY TOO MUCH MONEY BUT WAS HOLYSHIT THE BEST STEAK WE EVER ATE...EVERRRR.
So here's an image dump.

IMAGES, MAY BE LARGE? )

Today we are going to Harajuku, Shibuya, Asakusa and to infinity..

... AND BEYOND!

JAPAN! [Jul. 27th, 2008|07:08 pm]

[Current Mood | cheerful]

Dudes, I know we totally landed in Tokyo.. but somehow.. ALL OF IT LOOKS LIKE DISNEY!

Our hotel is so freaking boss, we just back from eating breakfast cause the sun rises at 4:30 AM. Its like.. 8 AM now? Lol my sleep schedule is normal, wtf.

Okay what else. WE'RE GOING TO NERDCENTRAL Akihabara today to look at animu crap and then we're going to the ABSOLUT ICE BAR.

We've gotten foodstuff already.. giant motherfuckin' sushi rolls (they were...HUGE, no joke.) and I got takoyaki at the airport.. which was.. OMNOMNOM.

So, one thing that I know I'm going to have trouble here is the language. I forgot my phrasebook at home, so I'm kinda hoping people know some sort of broken English so I can get by. I've been doing okay with my nani desu ka? and dozo and domo and all this other random crap Japanese I've picked up from anime (derp, weeaboo). I asked the hotel lady that was at breakfast what something was and it went like this:

Me: *points to bowl with stuff* Nani desu ka?
Lady: WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSGOHANWORDSWORDSWORDS
ME: OH! RICE!
Lady: Hai!
Me: OMNOMNOM.

Its so surreal to be here though. I want my damn women's panties from vending machines.

I need to pick up a card reader for my camera, so expect videos some point tonight (my time). So exciting...

Renee is really excited to be here, she keeps reminding me every 2 minutes that we're in Japan.

[info]theannadoom got the admin of http://www.freshverse.com/tv.php to stream the WCS championships live! That's right ladies and gentlemen - if you so choose, you can find out the outcome same time as us, all for the low low price of waking up at 6AM Central Pacific time, 7AM Eastern time) Sunday, August third.

Edit: Dia and I are the best Umi cosplayers ever

Oh surprise, Sonnya and I are doing the school uniforms because 1)I'm a loser and packed badonkadonk-Umi improperly and the resin got all over everything and I'm too lazy to clean it 2) those stupid costumes take up entire bags by themselves and weigh a billion pounds.
