Turns out that short-story-prompt thing I did a few weeks back really did help me get over my block! I wrote a good ten pages on one of the two Big Damn SotT Stories that I'm determined to get out there before I collapse (I swear that one's going to wind up nearly as long as
The Morning Star) and then I wrote this one, more or less on a whim.
I didn't actually mean to write the whole thing. I started out intending to write only the part that became the first section, and to write it as if responding to a story prompt--
close to the end of High Fidelity
Simon promises Danielle that he owes her bigtime; what did she end up asking him for?--but, goshdarnit, by the time I got close to the end of the first section, the next couple of sections had lined up in my mind, and they were too funny to resist, so I wrote them, too, and by the time I got close to the end of
those the entire rest of the story had organized itself and was insisting on being meaningful and all that crap. Bah.
So I wrote it. And it's pretty long. And here it is.
Shadow of the Templar: Escort Services(For those of you who have trouble accessing my site,
here's a rapidshare link to a .zip of the .html file, which you can download directly; please don't use it unless you need it, though, since that link will only be good for ten downloads. Let me know if the link goes blooey or if you can't access rapidshare.)
