AboutThis community is by and for teachers, specifically teachers who sometimes feel a need to rage, vent, yell, scream, and otherwise express anger about their lives as teachers.
So many teaching communities expect teachers to maintain the impossible veneer of utter kindness and self-effacing generosity, even while talking about the most frustrating aspects of teaching: administration, students, curriculum, school boards, and, at times, other teachers. It's a human job. But that doesn't mean you have to be more than human all the time. Sometimes, you just have to let go and rage.
This community's membership is moderated. If you are under 18, you will not be permitted to join. If you are not a teacher or have never been a teacher or have no evidence in your journal that you are planning to become a teacher, you will not be permitted to join. In order to join, you must have your birthdate displayed on your profile and you must have some teaching-related posts visible on your journal.
Because we work with sensitive materials and because the internet is so often used against its users, I encourage you to use aliases that are not obvious to discuss any specifics in your posts. Additionally, please friends-lock your posts so that they are less likely to become fodder for revenge by any stray internet-users who come across this community. Help make and keep this a safe place for us to let down our facades of pleasantness in a community of allies.
Please do NOT post about anything illegal or borderline illegal. If you did something bad, do not post about it here. Use your own journal for that, you freak. That said, LiveJournal and the moderators of this community are not responsible for the material posted in this community.
In addition to being pissed, you're welcome to use this community to ask for advice to alleviate infuriating situations. However, if you are commenting on another teacher's rage, please do not judge her/him for his/her rage (unless it is illegal or borderline illegal). If you cannot be supportive and accepting of other teachers' rages, then please do not comment.
Advertising for other communities, however, will not be tolerated in this community unless the advertising post has a raging element to it.
Most importantly, please keep posts on the topic of teacher rage. Everything posted in here should have some identifiable element of teacherly righteous rage about it.
This community is unique because it allows us as teachers to complain about our jobs, something even our friends sometimes don't want to hear us do. Let's keep it unique. In that vein, since so many of us are in the same sets of communities (being teachers and all), please keep memes and posts containing email forwards to a bare minimum. Consider that most of us have seen the stuff about "how much a teacher should make" and all of that. Be original in your raging, if not actually creative.
