| CITY OF TAXON Two thousand years in the future. Earth is gone, the human race is no more, but there are other intelligences in the Universe, and the Earth left traces. What are these traces? Well, put simply, it's fictions. An alien intelligence (not little green men, something intangible) has decided to reconstruct the Earth, but based on what’s left of humanity: fiction. And by extension, fictional characters. These characters of course don’t know they’re fictional- and may not even be from Earth within the canon of their fictions, but that doesn’t matter. This alien intelligence doesn’t have the specifics, it’s curious and it’s arbitrary and it’s an avid collector. Think of it as a pet project. The setting is like a nuclear bunker, but in EPIC proportions; a huge underground city designed to house a new population. But of course this mysterious intelligence is imprecise in its knowledge of what Earth was like, so it’s chosen architecture from all different time periods of history, all juxtaposed together randomly. But what is this place made of? How does it work? Well, it’s science so advanced it almost seems like magic. Everything is code, and the mysterious intelligence that’s running the place programs things into existence. However, everything is real. Stone is stone. The people are flesh and bone, not holograms of any sort. The city itself is an empty playground. Go, do, wander and be free. You want to live in that huge Victorian mansion? Go on with your bad self. Want to run a bar in that weird futuristic looking space ship thing? Go nuts. As time progresses, and characters explore, they will be able to get out of the city, discover what’s outside, where it is, who brought them there, and what it’s all about. But for now, everything is a mystery. Welcome to Taxon. |
