help?
So I got these anchors tattooed on my chest about two years ago. I like them a lot, but now I feel like there's too much wasted space on the rest of my chest. I'd like to have a full chest piece, my only problem is I don't know what would look good. The anchors are kind of close together so it might be difficult fitting something in between (without going above my collar bone, which I don't want to do). I was thinking maybe some traditional style roses or maybe a banner? Any idea guys? I'm really open to anything. help me out! |

My friend’s photography final is "portraits through tattoos" So I thought I’d share a rough draft of one of her pieces (I'm the girl in the photo)
(Not the best quality since it's a photo of a photo but you get the idea) :) |

Hi all!! I was wondering if I could get some advice. I'm thinking of getting a tattoo on the side of my torso. Just some writing, nothing big and no graphics. It wouldn't be very thick either (if that makes sense ... I mean it wouldn't flow into my stomach or back, it would *just* be on the side). Anyways, I do plan on having kids at some point. Is it completely stupid to get a tattoo there? Will it just get stretched out to shit? Anyone with any advice on this matter would be great!! ( pic of the style of tattoo... )Does anyone know any good tattoo shops in Ottawa?? |

Here it is - my first tat
Hey guys, So I made it through... a lot more painful than I thought it would be but I am so happy with how it turned out! Unfortunately the tattoo artist couldnt make the bird cage work, which I was a bit disgruntled about as the whole idea was to have the bird escaping from the cage... but what can you do. The wind running through the bird should turn out as a fine line once it has healed... So here it is, let me know what you think! |

First tat!
Ok so following up on my first post, I am finally getting my first tattoo tonight! I am going with the bird flying out of the bird cage idea, but I have decided to make it much larger and on my left shoulder blade. I will update with pictures soon! Wish me luck :) Current Mood: excited |

Not What I Wanted
So I got a tattoo to cover up a cross I had on my neck. I wanted it covered by a lilly. I really just wanted the flower, something organic and simple. Instead I ended up with something much different. I pretty much just went home and cried, drank some wine, and then resigned myself to hating the thing. I'll let you guys tell me what you think and if I'm over reacting: Current Mood: crushed |

Spear Studios, Birmingham
I've been looking at lots of Leah Moule's work on the internets, and have seen some work she's done on a couple of girls I know, and was wondering if anybody here has had any work done by Leah and what you thought about it? I've been thinking for a few years now about getting a psychedelic style quarter or half sleeve (think Grateful Dead/Ozric Tentacles artwork) with tendrils that come out over my shoulder and down across my collarbone. Her colour work looks great from what I've seen. Obviously I need to go and discuss with Leah if she'd like to take on my piece as I don't think this is her preferred style, but would really appreciate any comments about the studio and/or artist. Thanks. Current Music: Fat Old Sun (Live) by David Gilmour |

Long Island Tattooing...
So, where on Long Island do you go to get inked? I used to go to Lark but my normal guy left and now I'm in the market for a new place. What's your shop of choice? Pictures accepted... Current Music: Dress Blues [live]-Jason Isbell-Sirens of the Ditch |

A couple of questions
Hi. I'm totally new to tattoos but I'm thinking of getting one in the near future so I thought I'd do a bit of research first. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a studio in London, UK? The design I want is fairly simple so probably not too easy to mess up (at least, I'd hope so) but I want to go somewhere that has a good reputation. The placement I was thinking of is just inside of my left hipbone. Of course, that's also where the waistband of whatever I happen to be wearing usually is - would this interfere with the healing much? Has anyone else got experience of getting a tattoo here? How painful would you say it was? I'm prepared to put up with pain for my ideal tattoo, but I'd like to be prepared. My final question is a bit trickier. The tattoo I'd like to get is a small, very simple line drawing in black and white with no shading. It would be a couple of inches wide by an inch or so high. I'm aware that price varies a lot, but could anyone give me an indication of the price range I'd be looking at? I'm not looking for anything specific, but I literally have no idea how much a tattoo costs and I'd like to know if I can afford it :) Thanks! |

Leftover Aquaphor
FYI Aquaphor is fabulous on your nose if you have a nasty cold that has left your nose cut up and raw (I've been using it for years at night on my lips to prevent chapping). Don't toss it once your new tattoo has healed. |

just turned 18!
Ok so iv been in this group for a while but i could never get a tattoo because i was not yet 18, now that i turned 18 last friday i am ready to get my first. I need a little advice though. First off I am a true hippie at heart and i want my first tattoo to reflect that, i was thinking something like a flower with the center as an earth and all the pedals having something else meaningful from my life on them, one would have a bicycle, another a clover to represent my irish pride, another a rainbow to symbolise my pride in the gay community, a sublime sun and other such related things, you get the idea. Its hard to describe but i draw so i sketched it out and i was just wondering what people thought of this idea/ if you had any ideas on how to improve it. anything helps i really have a very rough idea of what i want and i want it to be perfect before i get anything. Thanks for everything! oh plus any pictures of similar things or ideas would be super cool! |

Your first tattoo
Okay, I admit it, I'm completely new to the world of tattooing, but (once I work out something) I'd love to get my first tattoo next year. But I'm curious about your experiences in general: What was your tattoo? How was your first trip to the studio? How did you choose it? Was it a small tattoo or did you start big? I know, completely ignorant, but I'm really interested! |

I got my first tattoo not long ago, and I am contemplating a second one. Under the cut is a picture of my tattoo and a potential tattoo. Opinions? ( Click here. ) |

I'm getting a tattoo next Sunday, but I have had to switch my appointment on my artist about eight times. Normally I'm not so flaky, but two people have quit at work and I needed to pick up the hours since everyone else is still in training. Then I got sick, and had to do two rounds of antibiotics. Ugh. I've been staying "in the rules" at the shop as far as switching the dates go, but I still feel terrible. I don't really have the extra money for a better tip, but would cookies for the shop be ok? Is this totally weird or would it be cool to be like, "I suck and I really appreciate you guys dealing with my crap because I know I've been a pain in the butt and I'm totes sorry." |

placement/font suggestions and healing questions
There is some GREAT art around here, and I'm hoping I can get some help :) I have discovered my bank account a little bit fuller than I was expecting so I would like to get one of my planned tattoos. I think "to thine own self be true" is better suited to the life phase I'm in, but I'd love some suggestions for font and placement. I don't tend to like anything too "Gothic" or scrolly in nature - I like a sans serif font. As to placement - over my heart seems to make the most "sense" ... but how was healing? I'm a big girl with boobs to match, and I'm wondering how much the bra makes things worse :s Also, is there any imagery that comes to mind that reinforces this idea? I'd be okay with text-only, and I could add imagery later... just thinking out loud I guess. Stylewise I'm a little bit in love with this artist, after discovering his page 5 mins ago ;) Placement: how about the wrists? it's a lot of text for one, but I could put "to thine own self" on one side and "be true" on the other...? I dunno. Thanks in advance for all your input! And if you read this far, I'll give you a not-so-text-only treat: my back and my right calf. 2 of the 6 tats I have currently, with plans for 3 more (including this one). Also sorry for the crossposting ~blush~ Current Mood: excited |
