1:53 pm - Holla at all CA Target employees
|

With a busy Target schedule and school, I check my mail about once a week. Its mostly junk mail but sometime this week I received a letter concerning important legal matter. Excited to see on the outside it was the case of Wong vs. Target Corp, I ripped the letter open to find out she was suing over holiday pay slash time off pay in the sum of 10 million dollars. Anyhoot if this broad wins the case I'm entitled to 5 whole dollars. Has anyone in So Cal received this letter?

12:45 pm - Life in the DC

This week at the DC was interesting. I worked both Zone 1 and 2 on the manual docks. I thought for sure my numbers would suffer as I took in alot of non-con. I worked extra hard to not lose production too much, and just ended up exhausting myself in the process.
I got alot of help from the senior dock workers there on things like pallet builds for the larger non-con items, and how to add and item to a PO. I had five pallets on the trailer that just would not scan at all. They were on the bill of lading, but not in the system. So I learned how to add them.
At the end of the week last night, the GL posted our production percentages. I looked at mine and was surprised to see I made 131%. I thought it would be more like 60-70%. One of the other workers looked at that and said "That's YOU??". I said yes. I was happy. This is my fourth week at the DC and I haven't gotten fired yet. So I must be doing something right. I mentioned this to one of my coworkers, and he said I have lasted longer than most new hires. That's a positive sign.
I also got my clamp truck cert. this week. Now I am certified on both the RC and the Clamp. Now the next thing to learn to operate is the slip truck.

So0o0o0o...Does anyone work in Connecticut?
I'm moving there in late July. [Groton]
And I was hoping to transfer to the Waterford store. ...I dont really want to, but it must be done..I still need to be working while I look for a new job. I'm not too excited about moving to an older store..mine's brand new...2 years old. My stores also a low-volume and I've been told that Waterford is high-volume..
I've been in there...it's kind of creepy looking...very dim.
[Sorry if you work there and I've offended you...that's just how I saw it]
I was also wondering what the rate of pay in CT is. If anyone knows.
I dont really want to be losing money. My raise was bad enough. It's pretty sad that I'd have to work there another full year just to hit $9. [My review-raise was terrible...the review itself..not so bad because my TL loves me]
Um, so yeah. If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appriciate it!

Hey Guys! Once again I've come for advice, I was just recently made Electronics Specialist and I'm really excited after being an electronics team member for 3 years. I don't know exactly how other target electronic departments work but.. are you stores just as anal about electronic service scores?
If so, To any electronics team member/specialists/ leaders.. What do you guys do to raise the bar? any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. : ) Thank you.
I mean.. I have tons of ideas of myself, but would like to hear what you guys have to say.

Indiana Jones was re-released yesterday and I thought we would be sold out by the end of the night. We had plenty which surprised me due to the amount of people asking for it days prior to it. You'll be happy to know that the bathroom light was fixed...sort of. They took out the sensor so now the light is on all the time now. The only problem is that they didn't put anything there to cover the hole but they probably have by now.
My weird purchase of the night last night was a guy and his girlfriend buying a camera...and condoms. I successfully held in my laughter til after they left. I told one of our AP guys who wasn't on duty but happened to be around and he started laughing too.
I've gotten 4 Target red cards in the past two nights with 3 of them last night. I have stopped asking because they never want them. All 4 people came up to ME and asked to be signed up. I was like...uh, okay!
We have a few new TM in electronics and one of them is an older man. He is sooo frazzled that he stresses me out. I realize that electronics is overwhelming at first but he probably could have taken it down a notch or two.
I'm opening in electronics tomorrow for the first time ever and they haven't actually told me what I'm supposed to be doing. Does anybody have advice on what to do or what they do? Do I press the closed doorbell or open doorbell? Is it all that hard? I've closed for forever so that's easy enough. I'm just surprised I got an opening shift since I...never open.
Oh and Target...please don't call me and ask if I would like to work an extra shift when I've been working every day since Friday. I just worked last night and I'm still sleeping. I won't answer the phone.

GOOD NEWS!!!!! (and apologies for posting so much...but this is exciting!!!)
I am spending my last shift on the sales floor and NOT cashiering, and I am sooooooooo excited you have no idea!!! Yayyyyyyyy!!!!
That said, any advice for me? I know you're supposed to finish up pulls, zone, and help guests...and when you get done, you do reshop. Right? Anything I'm missing? Advice would be greatly appreciated. :) (I'm praying I don't get consumables, but hey, it's the sales floor, and I'm not going to complain.)

9:13 am - Reviews
|

I'm sensing a trend that everyone is pretty much disappointed with their reviews and their lousy raises. I for one expected a lot more positive feedback. It seems like I got all the same comments I got last year, when I had only been working their for a few months and only cashiered. Now I've been with Target for about a year and a half, and I feel like I am one of the most valuable team members at the front end. I cashier, do guest service, food avenue (which I was never really trained for), cover breaks and lunches for gstls, train new team members, and do whatever projects or tasks I'm asked to do. It seems to me that the criteria we're evaluated on doesn't allow for recognition of things we do beyond our core roles. Like for me it's cashier speed, conversion rate, pressing the backup button "confidently", and all the standard target brand stuff like great looking store, well stocked, etc. We are only graded on very specific things and not our overall work ethic, flexibility, attitude, and ability to learn new areas and going out of your way to help. It annoys me. I'm not going to turn my nose up at an extra 28 cents, but I think we all expected more from our raises.
Moving on, the other night in guest service, this lady was paying a bill for her redcard with a debit. She asked me if she could do it as credit because she didn't want to put her pin number in. I told her it won't let you because you can't pay for credit with credit. She got an irritated tone and said as she laboriously covered the card reader so as to prevent me from stealing her pin number, "I don't know why you guys make people do this with everyone's identity getting stolen." Some people are so paranoid about stupid things. I can't see what numbers you put in because the screen is made so that you can only see it from that angle. Even if I did see your pin number, it wouldn't mean anything to me without your debit card. Like another lady a few months ago wanted to return something and I asked her if she had her receipt and she said "No, I shred all my receipts." I was in awe. Another example is an old couple (they're usually old) buying dog food. They noticed it had a small tear in the outer packaging and asked if I could have someone grab them a new one. In the wake of all the dog food recalls in the news, they said they were afraid the tear was due to someone tampering with it and possibly poisoning their dog. Do any of you have funny stories of paranoid guests?

11:01 am - i got my review but what?
|

so i finally got my review. apparently my etl wants me to be part of POG team, i told him to train me, but im not sure if i want to be part of it, he said i would get a 50cent raise for it, which is good, but for what i have seen i wouldnt like it (they take lunches together and early, taking away my ability to take lunches with my friends) so for now im gonna be instocks. So now the review, i got effective which pisses me off cause my review was done by my instocks tl when i have been doing 80% salesfloor and 20% in stocks. The tl said im good at training other team members, with my availability to cover shifts, and that i should seek feedback to increase my perfomance. so i got 26 cents. I am dissapointed since 1. im the fastest when coming to shooting, pushing and probably pulling. my scores are top notch, i dont ask for feedback, because i kinda hate my team lead because she's lazy, i barely see her, and i havent been performing to my 100%, now i have decided to work at 100 of my capacity and my tl will be screwed since im gonna make her look bad, also considering im going to a 60% instock 40% salesfloor mix. If my Etl would check our scores, hers were crappy and got decent within time, mine have been decent at all times. sometimes i feel so underrated. Perhaps i get the short end of the stick since im the only one in the team that doesnt follow her order of shooting. apparently she has assigned certain areas to people, while when i work i roam around the store, and changing my shooting patterns.

11:45 pm - I'm electrifying

Target is injuring me left and right these days. Somehow, I'll turn the corner and scratch the heck out of my arm. I have a bunch of various scrapes. Today rocks the top of the incident list and I didn't even report it. I just told people like it was a funny story.
I went to go to the bathroom in the backroom when I noticed the sensor didn't turn the lights on. The stupid thing is broken. I press it thinking it will maybe turn them on but no luck. I press harder one more time and my thumb slips through the crack that is apparently there...and I touch wires. That's right fellow team members. I got electrocuted. I'm getting the jolt throughout my body and saying "Ohhh Ffffuuck" during it. I went and told my co-worker who was helping a guest at the time and the guest looked terrified. I'm kind of laughing at this point but my arm hurts so I'm shaking it around. I get an occasional wave of weirdness go through my right arm the rest of the night. My thumb is still slightly numb.
Later on, I scratched up my arm opening up the Wii case. One of the protective bars fell off while I was sliding it open and passed my arm in the process. Oops.
On an unrelated note...I came back from lunch to find a kid in our electronics boat playing with a camera. I hate people even stepping onto our carpet and this kid was way past boundaries. I snap my fingers point, and yell "HEY! Get out of there!!" The kid said okay and immediately left. I noticed some parents (which were not his) looking a bit unnerved. This kid was probably 7 or 8 and should have known better. I will yell at kids when they are old enough to know better. Geez.
What injury or yelling at kids/being mean to kids story do you have?

I had a guest come up to me today and ask why we didn't have mother's day cards.
I was just like, "...well. We don't because Mother's Day was yesterday."
"Well, I know that! Why don't you have any?"
I explained to him that since the holiday was now OVER, we got rid of all the cards and now have Father's Day and graduation cards in. He didn't seem pleased and wanted to know where to get a card for Mother's Day. I told him to go to Hallmark or something.
So. Females! Anyone here have guests who don't want them helping with carryouts?
A coworker of mine had that issue like, yesterday. She came up to help take some wire shelving out to a guest's car. The guest, too, was female. And she apparently had an issue with a female taking out a heavy item. So coworker called for a male to come help take the shelves out.
And even when they were outside, the guest still didn't want her handling the shelves. So poor dude had to do it all by himself. Hahah. Dude. About 75% of our staff is female. Without us, I highly doubt T-349 would be able to function.
Don't underestimate the womenfolk. We're the Amazon Target. >:D (lulz, not really)

last wednesday i went to cover a 15 in garden center and wrote thanks for the break from "GSA + psycho-cashier = fast service every 5 min" apparently the gsa went to garden and read that. Friday morning she comes up to me, and just tells me "you know i work in garden too" and i just started to laugh., knowing what she was talking about. then she smacked my shoulder. wth? why is she touching me, she's not allowed to, even if it was kinda friendly. then she starts to say stuff, and i wasnt paying attention at all. so i told what happened to the FA lady, and a GSTL. they were laughing so hard.

did anyone else have the weekend from hell for mother's day?
being the GSA, or as i prefer to call it 1090's #1 bitch, i get the pleasure of being GSTL a couple of times a week, which i don't mind. this week, a GSTL is on vacation so it's a full week and 1 day which started yesterday. We were crazy busy yesterday. I opened. It wasn't too bad except for the fact that the flow teams ETL didn't let us in the store until about 7:15 rather than 6:55 because there was 2200 piece truck that came in with only 14 people to work it. the opening SF team members pushed freight the entire morning. I had two HUGE flats of one spot with 6 pallets in the back waiting for me. i had only two cashiers until 11, would've been three but 2 SF team members called out and so one of my great cashiers was put on the sales floor. my GS team member overslept and didn't come in until 9 and by the time the rush started I had a bunch of cashiers who like to leave the lanes for no apparent reason other than to get away. For the most part it was good....
( ...today )
i'm so glad the lights go out an hour after the store closes and we have to go home.

7:21 pm - first time postin here

so yeah, first time postin here and just wanted to ask a few questions to some of u that know more then i do.
i got my review the other day and i wasnt TOO happy...., i've been with the store for 8 nearly 9 months now and i work in the cash office 2 days a week, im at the photo lab another 2 days a week, and the other day i'm wherever they need me where i'd know my way around (mostly cashier and guest service, but have been cart attendant and worked in electronics several times) i also cover garden's and gstl's breaks/lunches from time to time...but yeah, like i said, i wasnt too pleased with my review and, much less with my 22 cent raise...was i expectin too much when i thought i'd get a little more? or am i right and think a 22 cent raise to the 8.50 an hour im makin was disappointing?
i thought there was an additional 25 cent raise for working in the photo lab or at least something for cash office...dont get me wrong though, im happy to have been trained for so much, but it has stressed and tired me out
theres a cash office specialist position open in another store that im considering applyin for but i wouldnt wanna leave the store im at already b/c i get along with most of my co workers and the etl-ge and gstls are real cool and help me out in gettin a real good amount of hours every week.
what do you guys think?

More...non-exciting tales from a softlines brand team member(god that seems like a lame title).
Apparently a district dude came through our store last night and had a fit over the fact that the other SBTM was in RTW, zoning. So I come into work today and get told that, okay. You're brand. Fold tables. No zone. No reshop. JUST FOLD.
Okay. I was told this a month ago, too. By the SAME TL. Hahha. Wtf. I want to see how long this lasts.
Right now, though, I'm very...brand, for being the brand person. My hair is bright Target red. A fellow team member told me I should dye a black bulls eye on my head. I declined politely.
I also got nailed with a green card by our secret shopper. Who, amusingly, was formerly an LOD at my store before he went back to a nearby store(one I frequent, since it's like, 10 minutes from me). He asked how many people I had guest serviced before I saw him and I was like, "uh. 7?" dude, I GSed peeps iin the entire housewares/domestic block. It was sweet.
Nothing too horribly exciting at my Target. Unless you count having some ladies standing outside the store, trying to get people to sign petition stuffs to get people to start abusing the eldery and children. Apparently they were getting pretty mean and like, verbally abusive or whatever to people? I dunno. They were threatened with a call from the cops if they didn't stop. They left.
Ohhhh, Target. You amuse me so.

11:41 pm - The coolest AP guy is gone :(
|

lhsmallfry
|
There is this guy at work who is the AP named Jose who I talk to frequently and we goof around teasing each other. We even had some serious talks once in a while. We were friends All this week I haven't seen him but I figured it was because I opened and I've never known him to open. Well today I wasn't opening and figured there was a decent chance he would be working as he always seems to close Sunday nights. Well I arrived and did my quick look around for him but I saw the AP chick talking to another associate and this some guy. I did a double take as I recognized the back of the head (he has a bald spot scar on his scalp) and realized it was Jose in street clothes. I had seen him in a hoodie over his uniform a few times but not like this. I went over was like "Hey haven't seen you in a while, you still work here?" I was totally being sarcastic and not prepared for his answer of "nope." I asked since when and he said 2 days ago. I was totally floored but being late for work I told him to make sure to come visit and headed off.
It was all I could think about at the registers and I had to force myself to smile and be cheerful though I wanted to cry. At one point I was turning away from the guests or "rubbing my nose" to let out silent sobs. I turned off my light and started to walk to the bathroom when the GSTL saw me and asked if I was ok. I started to loose it again and she said go splash some water on my face and we will talk. Talking helped and she even told me he wasn't GONE but on a 2 month LOA. That helped some but honestly I don't think he is coming back. I'm going to miss him as he was cool guy but all I can do is wish good things for him and hope he comes back to visit his team member friends.

4:53 pm - This week at the DC
|

|
Things went fairly well for my fourth week at the DC. I passed the RC fork truck test!! I didn't think I would. My GL came all the way over to my dock to congratulate me on this. I told him I didn't think I would get it but I did. My Trainer said I got a 100 on it. I'm happy. All this after winging the dock light last week with it. I was so nervous I'd get fired for that, but I didn't. Now I can concentrate on picking up my numbers. I did fairly well in the fast flow area. Thursday was a great day for me. On Friday at startup, the GL said he liked what he saw in that area. Im glad he sees that I'm really trying. I like the fast flow area. The only thing is sometimes when the non-con comes in that is hard. Receiving fireplaces, grills, and above ground pools are hard for me. I am getting better at using the clamp truck though. I have to get certified for that yet. Thursday I was receiving every conceivable Pantene product. That made the night go by quickly. Lots of little cartons, scanning them, labeling them, getting them on the conveyer. I learned to park the pallets of small packages right next to the conveyor, and scan them right there. Line them up on the conveyor, label them, then hit the start button and send them up to the mezz. I did that all night, and my numbers went way up. My Trainer said in a few more months, I will be trained to learn ART's and the other areas in the Inbound Department. We are taking on alot of new hires. My group was the first, now there is a new group that started this week, and next week there will be yet another group. I can't wait for our Target store to open. I'm dying to see one. Construction has been picking up at that site.

5:14 pm - Overnight Duties/Job Description and Basic TL Pay?
|

winkwink726

Hey all, me again! Your fearlessly enthusiastic, yet moderately retarded, Target co-Teammate!
I have two very concerning questions.
1.) WHAT IS IT THAT THE OVERNIGHT TEAM MEMBERS DO? (All positions involved in Over-Night) The more in detail you can be about the duties/jobs/tasks involved, the better! Be thorough and I will be most grateful!!!
2.) (for those who are willing to answer-as i understand if you choose not to, its a tasteless question, but still) WHAT ARE TEAM LEADS OBTAINING FOR AN HOURLY WAGE AT YOUR STORE? If it should vary, please include why that would be.
Thanks so much you guys, as always... you all are so helpful and appreciated!!! ;)

Hey TMs. I've not been on here much, as I've been on a LOA, taking care of some school stuff. Well, I'm scheduled to come back next week, since I finished up the semester, and they've given me a ton of hours, for which I am very grateful. However, I'm kind of worried because all of those hours are as a cashier. I'm a Starbucks TM, and have only worked as a cashier twice, once when last fall after I fractured my ankle, and then on Black Friday. Suffice to say, it's been a while.
I was hoping you guys could give me some advice, things to watch out for, common mistakes that can be avoided, basically anything you would tell someone who's never really worked as a cashier before. lol. I would really appreciate it. RedCards for all!

1:34 am - My 1st Review & a Suggested Promotion? (pearls of wisdom requested)
|

winkwink726
|
so, I've had my first review and it all went reallllly well.
To be quite honest, I expected some level of "Oreo" type criticism (ie. tell me something good that I do, something bad, then something good" so it doesnt hurt as badly). but there was nothing! nothing negative and nothing said to be improved upon! I was shocked to say the least.
Anyhow, i was talking to some higher-ups today at work (some important higher-ups) and i was questioned about my schooling and things of that nature and i was suggested into a promotion. Some of the discussion was compensation/benefits/pay Some of it was how I would be useful in this position and how its agreed that I'd be a good fit and the last of it was "Please let us know" asap.
I'm pretty excited about it bc of the obvious pay increase and benefits are a good thing, trouble is, I'm not sure if I want to leave my other job yet. The money at my other job is too good to cut hours there and take full time at Target.
And.... its overnight Team Lead, and Im not quite sure what goes on in that dept and what will be expected of ME plus im not sure what it is that all of those people do on overnight.
anyone have any pearls of wisdom here?
