| You vs mE |
[23 May 2009|06:53pm] |
Hey everyone!
Check out this awesome band from Toronto.
"You vs mE are heading back to the studio! Under the umbrella of RLF Victor productions, guided by the wisdom of legendary producer Bob Gallo (James Brown, The Rascalz), and with the help of one of the greatest engineers of all time, George Seara (Rihanna, Finger Eleven), the boys of You vs Me are heading back to the state of the art Phase One Studios in Toronto. High expectations are beginning to build for this band, and in effort of joining the ranks of their recording compatriots, You vs mE have continued to grow with the “Epic Indie” genre. “Epic Indie is a way of life for us… it’s about taking things that seem simple at the root of it all, but convey complexity and combining them with things that seem complex and larger than life, but are really quite simple at the root of it” describes Mykle , one half of the front of You vs mE. He is quickly, though understandably, translated by Chris P who makes it clearer that for them, it is about embracing all things and accepting everything in moderation. Applying this to You vs mE, we now understand that Mykle and Chris P come from very different musical backgrounds, yet work harmoniously to blend memorable melodies with big and dynamic sound based on lyrics concerning life, socio-political matters, love, and all things in between. The You vs mE line-up is rounded out by Rexx (drums) and Roddo (Bass, backing vox), who’ve been playing music together since they were 15, so realizing how alike they all were, the natural fit has led to a a hit-factory 4-some poised to dominate the world music scene. In addition to being humbly intellectual, You vs mE are ambitious, looking to tour shortly in support of their Debut EP "The Borrowed"."

| This Is A Shakedown! First Video "Circles" |
[15 May 2009|05:04pm] |
On May 5, Cleveland-bred electro-rockers THIS IS A SHAKEDOWN! release their music video "Circles" to coincide with their debut studio album Love Kills.
Check out the video at www.myspace.com/thisisashakedown or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GCGuP_EIww.
At first glance of "Circles," one might notice that the band is surrounded by the glow of laptops. The video was recorded via Apple Mac Book’s Photo Booth - the same program most users utilize to dilapidate their face for their MySpace page. This has created a whole new kind of artistic expression, courtesy of THIS IS A SHAKEDOWN!
Filmed at Ante Up Audio in Cleveland, it took 21 borrowed Mac Books to create this masterpiece, which was filmed and edited by Bryan Porter of Enigma Digital Media. The result is nothing short of stunning. However, due to the intense strobe effects, this video would unlikely be played on television (it comes with a warning for those with epilepsy or vertigo).

[22 Feb 2009|11:03am] |

With that powerful chorus from the driving "Second of a Spark," multi-talented singer-songwriter Jamie Lynn Noon announces her stunning arrival with her debut EP, A Moment to Break. The 22-year-old California Bay Area native, who cannot recall a time when music was not a part of her life, is in line with contemporaries like Chantal Kreviazuk, Chrissie Hynde and Linda Perry – a gifted artist in her own right, yet one whose songs are natural fits for other prominent performers. And with A Moment to Break (to be released January 27, 2009 on Internet digital download retail sites worldwide), Jamie showcases the best of her vast catalogue of hook-laden, irresistibly catchy songs.

| Ephemeral mists |
[20 Feb 2009|11:07pm] |

Ephemeral Mists is a new musical project by composer Brett Branning (also the composer for The synthetic dream foundation & Abandoned Toys). "Moon Ritual" is the debut cd, out now on Mythical records.
The sound of the project is best described as downtempo ambient new age music mixed with ethnic world musics in the vein of "Karma" era Delerium, Amethystium, and Dead Can Dance. Its really a an incredibly beautiful creation and I sincerely recommend it to anyone into newage music styles. I'm looking forward to further releases by this project.

| Stereo Atomico needs a drummer |
[23 Jan 2009|08:19am] |
Original, local, Philly band Stereo Atomico needs a new drummer. We are looking to diversify our sound, and grow musically. In the past we did mostly punk and hardcore, which we will continue, but we need a drummer that can play more than just that genre. Old mp3s with our old singer (we are no longer female fronted) are still up on our site http://www.stereoatomico.com
Backing vocals are a plus. We are not looking to get signed. We basically play for fun and to express ourselves. We have lives outside of the band, and want someone who appreciates that. You must be able to practice at least once a week, and be reliable. We are easy to get along with and would like someone who is as well. Open to age, gender, and race, we just want someone who can fit the bill. Contact us at stereoatomico@yahoo.com

| Kiernan McMullan - Perfect People Are Boring |
[09 Jan 2009|10:07pm] |
I love this CD and this guy is my favorite artist right now. I have reviewed his CD twice now - both professionally and then again as a fan. I will repost my fan review behind the cut.
The reason I think a lot of you will like him is because he's got a Jason Mraz / John Mayer kind of style but he also has a lot of funk and heavy drums and just insanely fun mixed with wit and brains.
After all, the man wrote a song based on "The Venture Bros." called "Cardboard Swords"!
( my fan review ) Anyone who is interested can still check out his entire 14-track CD at iTunes (or Amazon or Rhapsody) for just $3.99, but this sale won't last long!
Best $4 you've spent in a long time.

Disturbed - Torn |
] |
My new review is on Disturbed's fourth album "Indestructible". I mention the number of albums to illustrate the point right off the top that this band is not bad, and they certainly have an audience. It's just that the music lack's a little depth. It's all a bit Metalite for me...
I've found it best to describe this album using the analogy of the WWE ( ...you know; steriods, skanks and storylines... ) "Indestructible" - if it weren't for the crude language it would be PG...
