TUTORIAL for WAIST CINCHER/CORSET + shirt
you requested it so here it is. i should also say that this is my first tutorial and the first time i made that waist cincher. the one i made for the tutorial is a bit better...so yeah...
step one: i'll be using my own measurements here.
measure under your bust. (35")
divide by 2. (17.5") this will be the back top measurement.
divide by 2. (8.75") rounded off (9") this will be the front top measurement.
measure around yout bellybutton. (38")
divide by 2. (19") this will be the back bottom measurement.
divide by 2. (9.5") this will be the front bottom measurement.
measure the distance between your bust and bellybutton. (5")
draw out the pattern on the fabric, which should be a thicker material like jeans. cut out the pieces leaving a seam allowance for yourself. cut out 1 back piece and 2 front pieces. for the front piece, the bottom is 9.5" across but i extended it down for the point. also, the sides should be angled a bit.
step two: pin short sides together and sew.
step three: fold top and bottom edge and pin. make sure you pin down the inside seams. sew.
step four: sew down inside seams (the ones from step two) and front edges. then iron all the seams.
it should look like this now...
step five: cut out three thick stips of fabric, pin down the edges, and sew. sew around the edges again, but inside more, for stability.
step six: tuck the end of the tab under and pin to the right of the cincher. mark on the left side where the buttons go with a pin.
step seven: sew tabs down. sew button holes on the tabs. if you don't have a button hole stich on your machine just zigzag stich in a rectangle.
step eight: sew on the buttons. i used contrasting thread.
step nine: ROCK IT! but not like me...i'm getting ready for bed...
i hope that helps!
a reconed shirt made out scraps. why do i look so odd?! hahaha.
