the deconstruction & reconstruction of t-shirts.

NEW USERS, welcome to t_shirt_surgery, here are the most important guidelines for the community. the full list can be found on the userinfo page.
read the rules & tags before asking a question. we have over 9000 members so most questions have already been answered.
stay on topic. that means you can post anything made from or into a t-shirt. no plugging rating communities, and no posts exclusively made to sell your item.
for specific topics like stencilling, skirts, or other crafts, look at the userinfo to find a more appropriate community. don't ask for a specific stencil here or how to make something non-t-shirt related, there are other comms to deal with those topics.
don't be offensive & criticize negatively. persistently nasty commenters will be banned.
if you deliberately break these guidelines you will be banned. having said all that, enjoy the community, have fun and be crafty!

| Quick question |
[Saturday|04 Jul 2009|3:28pm] |
I have a really simple question that I can't figure out from looking at the tags...
I have a plain jersey tee that I want to change the neckline on. If I just cut it and leave the edges raw, I know they will roll, but how far? Do I need to stitch around the edges to prevent them from going too far?
Hope this question makes sense, TIA.

I have done a grand total of 3 t-shirt recons, and they were really simple, and i'm a little embarrassed to wear them in public. I don't own a sewing machine, but i really really want one. I'm considering buying the Brother LS2125I 10-Stitch Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Automatic 4-Step Buttonholer. Any other non- bank-breaking suggestions? Does this look like a good machine to you?

I need to start taking before pictures! So, I have so many shirts that I really want to work on, but there is only so much time between work, summer school and everything else I need to do ... But I've managed to do two shirts today, neither of which I got a before picture on ( Which hopefully I'll remember to start doing). Anywhoo, here they are!

[Tuesday|23 Jun 2009|6:32pm] |
I'll start my first post with something I made for Halloween 2006... ( I'm a Dinosaur )
And here are some things I did recently. ( More practical than a Dino suit. )
I've been a member of sew_hip for a while now, but I just recently added this community. I really enjoy everyone's posts. Thanks for sharing your own creations and thanks for looking at mine.

Thus begins my post. I'm just gonna post my t-shirt-related surgeries because otherwise someone will unleash R.O.U.S.'s on me or something (I hope someone gets that reference). ( Mass Hysteria! )

These are recons... but not from t-shirts. But i figure since my t-shirt recon-ing is so faithful to this community that i can post these and it will be okay! Great idea for you all too! These are actually reconstructed from some bandanas i found at Hot topic! i couldn't pass up the AWESOME fabric.

Going to the Offspring concert tonight and Dropkick Murphys are opening! Woooo! My boyfriend gave me an old Dropkick shirt that he doesn't wear anymore so I could modify it and have something to wear tonight, so I did this! I also made the choker out of grommet trim and laced orange fabric scrap in it just to continue the Irish theme.

( Dear Offspring, this s*** is not f***ed up. )

| a recon for the hubby |
[Thursday|18 Jun 2009|3:01pm] |
So my hubby needed a bag for his ridiculous collection of die for his Dungeons and Dragons gaming addiction. LAME, i know. Just kidding. Anyways his favorite band is Korn (even LAMER, i know), so i cut up one of his old shirts and made something just perfect for his collection.
...and while i'm at it ill also post some non-recon bags--- i made some new wristlet clutch bags, its a new pattern i made, i used interfacing and zipper closures and also a velcro closure, oh yeah and a purse.
( Korn Bag, plus extra goodies )

This is a very quick, no-sew project that I did to make one of my t-shirt's necklines look like a shirt I saw a girl wearing in a YouTube video. Have you seen The Beaver Bunch? Their clothes are adorable.

( I've got no strings to tie me down. )

The Dollar Tree on Apple has a ton of t-shirts-all navy blue and all a dollar. For those of you elsewhere, you might check your local Dollar Tree.
