Summary: Tabula Rasa is Latin for “blank slate.” Something new, fresh, unmarked, or uninfluenced. A mind not yet affected by experiences, impressions, etc. This video represents the moment in "Family of Blood" that happened off screen, when the fob watch was opened, and all the memories came rushing back.
Notes: Technically speaking this was made for Challenge #2 over at vortexchallenge. But really, I wanted to vid this song long before. Because the mood of it, the sound of it, the lyrics, everything about it felt like that beach in "Doomsday" and the Doctor's mindset in Series 3. But since the challenge was instrumentals only, and this song is far from being an instrumental, I had to chop it up and come up with a story that would represent that moody image from the complete song. So here's the idea behind what actually turned out...
There's an episode of Buffy called "Tabula Rasa." In that episode Buffy falls under a spell where she forgets who she is. She calls herself Joan and thinks she's some sort of superhero. This is great news to her. She's perfectly happy. But then the spell is broken, and we literally see the moment when Buffy remembers who she is, and remembers all the terrible crap that's happened to her (she died, chillaxed in heaven, and then her friends brought her back, which really screwed her up, amongst other things) and we literally see the moment when it all comes rushing back to her.
We didn't get this moment in "Family of Blood." There was only a glimpse, but the actual thing happened off screen. So this is my attempt at interpreting what it could have been like, had we actually witnessed the Doctor's return. And what it could possibly feel like for him once he remembers.
