although alcohol is one of THEE most vile substances consumable by man, i do not agree with the prohibition of it.

countries with strict laws and regulations on alcohol actually have a higher consumption rate than those without the enforcement.

people will find what they can't have. i.e: marijuana is illegal, do people smoke it? all the friccan time. bootlegging would be America's next biggest industry.

more people would be traveling from their homes to obtain alcohol, which directly means more drunk drivers. more innocent deaths.

it would be wonderful if there were no such thing as alcohol. but for now, i think the main focus should be more substance use education in schools, more media coverage of the harmful effects substance has on your body, etc. people should have the effects of alcohol in their face 24/7, maybe they'll see what they're doing to themselves and actually make the choice to change rather than being forced into it.

or you could always just beat the crap out of them. HI TERRY!

what's your plan for the families who whill have one or two less working parents to support the children?

for employers who will lose employees that have been sent to prison labor camps?

for those who revolt against the government?

for the drop in America's stocks that may compromise the national debt and send the country into a state of crisis?

my dear, in order to properly argue, one must know the other's point of view. what you are describing is not only impractical, it would cause more harm than it would help.

prohibition is fucking moronic.

there will always be laws preventing people from doing things while under the influence (driving, operating machinery, going to work, taking care of kids, etc) and those laws are fine because duh.

those are a completely separate set of laws from the ones that exist for prohibition and for drugs today in america. you can not control people's bodies, it just makes them pissed off and want to do what you don't want them to. the answer to having people stop drugs is the same answer to everything else: make life worth living and people will appreciate it. people drink and smoke and do drugs because life fucking sucks shit and for whatever reason a random combination of factors pushed them over the edge (no pun intended) to become someone who finds solace in drugs as oppossed to one who does not. the only difference between us and non-sxe people is largely a difference of chance.

you want people to stop doing drugs then here you do:

- make all drugs legal
- heavily tax the rich and stop military spending so that health care, education, food, water, housing and all other basic neccessities are free for all people
- shorten the work week so that people can spend more time with their family and friends
- make food healthier so that people are more healthy, which makes people feel far less depressed
- implement more directly democratic ways of governing so that people actually have control over their lives, their work, and their communities
- fund the arts at all times with tax money

the list goes on and on. big changes take a long time and drugs and alcohol are just the symptom of the greater unhappiness people feel which is the real problem that has to be fixed in the world. if you educate people about why drugs are unhealthy but also make drugs legal and create safe places where people can get clean drugs to experiment with if they want and combine those two factors with a positive society based off of the pursuit of happiness instead of greed and bigotry then people are going to drugs less and less and less. it's that complex and it's that simple.

I support BBP as an organization.
I don't think that organization's goal is actual legal prohibition of alcohol but more education about the negative that comes out of drinking.
Their flyers and everything else they put out make really strong and valid points and I support militant straight edge action to an extent.

I DON'T support legal prohibition of alcohol though.
That obviously did not work in the past and I don't think it will ever work again.
I'm also all for the legalization of marijuana.
My opinion is that the government should stay out of people's personal choices so long as their choices don't affect the well being of other people.
The only thing that I would support is harsher punishments for crimes that could potentially harm other people such as drinking and driving or public intoxication. I don't think it's fare that a rapist gets 6 years in prison when someone who just had weed in their possession gets a mandatory 20 years. I do however think that DEALING drugs should be severely punished, and I think that crimes committed under the influence of any drug should have a far stronger punishment.

Who do you know that has gotten 20 years for having weed in possession? Ex-cons with about 87 felonies under their belt?

P.S. Rapists should get life.

I don't support outlawing alcohol. I do support bringing down the corporations that sell it.

It'd be just that much harder for minors to obtain alcohol if you couldn't stop by any random gas station with a fake ID and buy out a row of keystones. If there were more bars and less distribution, I think that'd be better.

As far as i know, i don't think we ever had prohibition in Australia anyway, so if you're talking about bringing it into Australia....thta's a different story. Otherwise i don't really care too much for it. If people want to drink, let them drink.
