LOW-PASS/FAGO.SEPIA [Nov. 28th, 2009|05:37 pm]

gudul

Split cd released on Friends of Mine Records in August. The 3 tracks of Fago.Sepia are just exhilarating. They have this new drummer that makes it sound less jazzy, hence this really catchy tune called "Treize". I'm not posting the whole release as they've asked me not to. But this split has been driving me crazy. "Douze" is available on their myspace.

And I can't resist posting this video of "Neuf" (from the album "L'âme sûre ruse mal"), my favourite song, played live in Paris during their tour with Pennines. Look how adorable they are.

GLORYTELLERS - ATONE (2009) [Nov. 17th, 2009|08:23 pm]

gudul

Second release of Geoff Farina (Karaté, Secret Stars) latest band.
Warning: "fingerpicked steel strings with seething electric guitar and junkyard harmonica" (southern).
I'm not sure if I like this. But I've seen that he's playing with Chris Brokaw as a duo, that should be fun.

RIP [Nov. 10th, 2009|02:21 pm]

gudul
just read this on postapocalyptic:

RIP Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs

Sunday Nov. 8.  Fuchs fell down an elevator shaft.  he was the drummer for post-rock band Maserati, and also for !!! and LCD soundsystem.  he was probably the only thing that was good about the band Maserati cause the guitarists were pretty generic.  sad day in the post-rock community. i got to see him play one of his last shows in san francisco opening for Mono.

Lymbyc Systym- Shutter Release

Lymbyc Systym is one of my favorite bands and one that I think fits sort of into this community. Two brothers, one on drums and one on keyboards, making really amazing instrumental music, nothing too weird or epic or ethereal, but always beautiful. This album isn't really up to their earlier stuff and I think its going to take me awhile to fall in love with it, but the song "Bedroom Anthem" alone makes it worth a download.

FARADAY [Nov. 6th, 2009|12:45 pm]

gudul
I got this from the excellent blog LATE FOR SCHOOL which funnily enough has the same kind of shit we have here. This Faraday band is from DC (not the german ones) and no longer exists. The vocals remind me of Pennines, or another band - i can't find it.

2 New - to me, anyway [Nov. 5th, 2009|09:32 am]

oaksterdam
Recently stumbled across the two blog posts below and am really enjoying the 2 bands. They seem exactly the kind of thing this community would enjoy too.

Bats - Red in Tooth & Claw
http://soundwatching.blogspot.com/2009/11/bats-red-in-tooth-claw.html
An excellent music blog; worth following. Here's what he says about Bats: "Probably the best band I discovered in last 3 months (at least). Just unbelievable, I have no words for it. Highly recommended!"

Book of Maps - II
http://www.thesirenssound.com/2009/11/01/book-of-maps-ii/
This one has words, but it is pretty excellent.

Hope you enjoy. Hope these guys come to my town soon.

oh well. [Oct. 26th, 2009|08:13 pm]

mycritique
i guess the whole ghosts and vodka reunion isn't going to work out. they posted this today on their myspace blog:

"We're calling it a day.

It was worth a shot, but we have sort of felt like we've been pushing a boulder up a hill. We've all got a lot going on in our lives right now and it's just gotten too difficult to pull it together. We aren't ruling out the prospect of trying again in the future, but as of right now... this ship is sunk.

Thanks so much for the support and kind words while it lasted.
Please check out our other bands / artistic endeavors if you get the chance."

Owen/Oasis [Oct. 26th, 2009|04:00 pm]

gudul

So I saw Owen playing + "a full band" for the Polyvinyl showcase in Brooklyn. They didn't play a single Owen's song. But some guy had enough patience to make these videos and post them on youtube (thanks).

I also found a couple of videos from the real full band gig in Chicago (including Bob Nanna and Nate Kinsella). That would have been great.
