Dammit I'm a Doctor, Not a Pin Up Girl!
This is the quote that Karl Urban wrote on the poster behind his signing booth at Supa Nova this weekend. To everyone from Swancon who came on down to check it out, I hope you all had as an amazing time as I did. The atmosphere was great, the guests were engaging and I am certain that there will be a few interesting photos buzzing around in the not to distant future. Our "Morale Officer" Coryann was BIG splash with Con goers and Con guests alike and she turned heads wherever she went (what can we say she enjoys her job) A full report on the weekend should be available online from our site at the end of this week. Stay tuned because our next PR will be out around the same time. Tickets for Harry Potter 6 sold well, so if you haven't already booked yours email me at 2010screenings@parasolonline.com for your booking... We should also have some good news on a confirmed venue for 2010 in the very near future - so stay tuned for that one. Until next time... Holiday Gaming - City of Stirling
Call for Volunteers ! Having seen what we did at Swancon, The City of Stirling are interested in running some introduction to euro/family games in the upcoming school holidays (July 4-19). There are six libraries in the city, and they'd like to run a session at each... So I'm looking for volunteers to help me out :) At the moment I'm looking for folks who can spare 2 or more hours on any day to teach and play with kids and families (age 10+) - let me know what you can commit to and we can let the city know if we can or can't do this. Star Trek Screening Post Game round up.
Once again I would like to thank everyone who turned up this evening to the screening of Start Trek. Tonight we had 134 attendees I will admit, I went into the film with a little hint of trepidation - but I was amazingly pleased with the end result... yes I know there will be some who will have something to complain about, but let's face it - you can please all the people all the time... and It's still illegal to hunt people! The casting was great and the humor was infectious. Then I saw who wrote it... Alex Kurtzman and Rob Orci... and it didn't surprise me in the least. I look forward to seeing you all at our next screening on 4th June 2009 at 6.45 - Terminator Salvation. On a side onte. I will be putting a poll out into Live Journal shortly. One of the trailers at this evenings event was for the Johnny Depp/Christian Bale 30's Gangster movie "Public Enemies". Depending on the scedule we are thinking of mixing it up a little with the films this year and not just have the traditional fair. We would be interested for people to vote. Booking Tickets for Screenings
Following on from my previous post. In light of a couple of small teething issues that I had this evening as event coordinator, I'm just letting people know. I work for a government department, that, owing to internet security has very restricted access in relation to webmail applications and I only have one opportunity to check my mail in the library on the Thursday of a screening (as I found out today.) To this end, I am taking a leaf out of my co-committee members ex screening book and asking people abide by the following guidelines. - All tickets need to be ordered by no later than 10pm the Wednesday PRECEDING the screening (excepting family events)
- If you have responded on facebook, and you are a LJ user, you don't need to respond twice - I will count FB as a request (unless you want more tickets)
- if you have a hotmail, gmail or yahoo email account, please ensure that your junkmail settings will allow emails from 2010screenings@parasolonline.com to come through to you so you can get your booking confirmation.
I know it may seem a little annoying to have to get your numbers in before the screening, and LIMITED numbers of at door tickets will be available. But if we don't have an idea of how many are coming, we do run the risk of overbooking the cinema, remembering that unless we sell out the cinema prior to the screening, they will sell tickets to the general public as well. I will be returning to the specially printed tickets for each screening. Hope to see a lot more of you over the next 12 months! Yoli | 9:29 pm [ozzyols]

Wolverine Screening - post script...
Well... Let's just put it this way... having just jumped out of a VERY VERY cold shower, I think i am in a position to comment! Firstly thanks to everyone who turned up this evening. We had 143 people in total which made for a great night. My apologies to anyone who emailed the screening list this afternoon and I didn't respond... an annoying thing called life and and IT department who won't let us check our webmail makes life interesting for me! I will post about a couple of changes to the screenings in a separate post. As for the film... well... I know what I want for christmas anyway! (I think Deb Furness might object though). Personally I loved the film there was just enough comedy and action to make it flow, the casting choices were rather brilliant actually - Did love Liev Schreiber as Victor. Considering the mythos and the back story from the other three films, the way the blended it together really worked... I didn't come out feeling like there was a plot hole that you could drive a truck through at the end... I learned from my Dad the other day that the young Kid who plays little Logan in it was one of those Hollywood golden casting moments - he was apparently acting in a play in Bayswater (yes our Bayswater) and got spotted by a talent scout... See it can still happen Well to everyone who came, I hope you had fun... I look forward to see you next week for Star Trek... PS if you are going to see it... watch for an Australian TV icon who plays a rather pivotal role in the life of a Wolverine ;D Free Chubba Chup to the first person who can tell me what his 80's ABC TV Character was called :D | | Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 | 5:29 am [ozzyols]
