LJ Customization Question

  • Sep. 17th, 2007 at 9:17 PM
Does anyone here know the html codes for putting a banner at the top of your Live Journal or Community? I've been on here since Febuary and the help section on Live Journal doesn't seem to help very much because it either tells me stuff I already know or it isn't clear on how you do it, and the Support thing on here seems to discourage people actually asking questions like this. There must be some way of doing it with a free account, because I've seen it on Journals like this one (the ads are still there, so it must be a free account!). http://community.livejournal.com/oneandobi/

Thanks.

Thanks to those people who participated. :) I suppose I'd better answer my own questions now.

What is your site called?

Star Wars Character Cafe (or SWCC for short)

When did it open and how old is it?

It'll be around 4 years old in Novemeber.

What made you choose that particular subject/actor/actress, etc?

I like all the characters in Star Wars and fan fiction, but most of the fan fics I've come across are about the main characters, Luke, Han, Leia, Anakin, Obi-Wan, etc. There's nothing wrong with that, but I've also come to love the less well known characters, like Lak Sivrak, or the EU characters such as Corran Horn and you always wonder what happened to them when the novels don't centre on them anymore (or as in the case of Lak Sivrak, never did). I also like to write about and create original characters, and you can blame Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston for this by writing the X-Wing novels. So, that's basically why I created the site. I mean, we all love Luke and Leia, etc, that's the reason why we're fans in the first place, but I've always liked the richness of the Star Wars universe and I wanted to recreate that by doing this site.

What do you enjoy most about running your site?

Feedback, like everyone else...I don't get as much of it as I like, but there's been a big down turn in visitors and websites recently, anyway, so I put a lot of it down to that, and the fact that a lot of fans have become disillusioned with Star Wars recently, in particular, the Legacy of the Force novels, and I can't blame them really. :(. Having said that, there is that live action TV series set in the early days of the Rebellion that's supposed to be coming up soon, so I'm really hoping that this'll revive a lot of interest and as it centre's around the minor characters, it looks like SWCC's golden time is yet to come. :)

Q: What is your site called?
A: Anakin And His Angel (AAHA)

Q: When did it open and how old is it?
A: November 21st, 2000. Almost 7 yrs. old.

Q: What made you choose that particular subject/actor/actress, etc?
A: I was completely touched by their relationship in TPM. Knowing that their relationship would flourish in the upcoming films, I became ecstatic about the couple and wanted to create a website centered around them.

Q: What do you enjoy most about running your site?
A: I love the community it has created, even though it has died down. I want to work towards restoring it, and part of that will be by bringing back the forums...and I'm really hoping it will happen soon.

This was a great idea! ;)

What is your site called? Sons of the Force

When did it open and how old is it? January 14, 2004, so it's 3.5 years old.

What made you choose that particular subject/actor/actress, etc? Luke and Vader are my favorite, favorite characters of both trilogies. I love the father/son connection and story, so I just HAD to make a site for them, especially since there were none and still are none.

What do you enjoy most about running your site? Getting feedback from visitors, especially when I make goodies or change the layout.

I got this idea from looking at the website birthdays and I thought it would be interesting to do, and to try and get people talking, and also as a way of getting to know each other. Some of the sites I've come across before on the DYD top Star Wars sites banner exchange, others I haven't.  So here it is:

Of course, if you have any more nosy questions to add, then please do.

Hey everyone!

I'm happy to announce that Sons of the Force is back to regular updates! Yay! I'd love it if you'd visit, maybe even donate some wallpaper or other fan creation? :)

Why don't we go around and list our website birthdays.

My first, Obidala Sanctuary, will be celebrating 6 years online, March 30th!

I still remember the week I opened Obidala Sanctuary and what I went through. We still had dial-up then and my mom was in the Philippines. So almost the whole week, I could not get online and finish uploading what I needed to upload. I was hosted at brinkster.com then and by the time I was able to login (which was at the end of the week) March 30th, I didn't realize that I'd already uploaded about 95% of Obidala Sanctuary already.  And when I realized that it was March 30th, the day before Ewan's birthday, that's when I decided to add a new section at the last minute called Ewan Dedications.  I really meant for it to be a boost in fan submissions but over the years, it never really worked out so eventually I scrapped that section of the site.

And then a year later, I opened Fated to Be (two of three weeks before Obidala Sanctuary's 1st birthday). I'm definitely proud to say that OS is still alive and kicking after 5 years (6 years next month), and I plan to have the site open as long as I can. My ultimate goal: at least 10 years :)

Okay, following [info]jedijen's post about our fond memories in running a Star Wars site, I want this one of mine :)

The first one I can think of is from a reaaaaally long time ago, when I had just opened Padme's Wardrobe (I think it was hosted at Lycos or something like that) and all my graphics were done using a program called Picture It!. I remember I saw one of [info]jedijen's headers on AAHA and it had a lot of brushes and I had NO idea what they were or how to achieve them! So I remember I asked Jen what those pretty things over the pictures on her header were, and she told me. So that same day I remember I started to look all over for brushes to download and after a downloading frenzy, I started to use them (A LOT and VEEEERY BADLY) and I guess that was the beginning of my photoshop addiction :D

I'd like to get things rolling, and I'm figuring this should help things...

Share your favorite memories, whether it be when you reached a certain ammount of hits, when an affiliate stepped in to help you out, or a layout that was a major hit!

One of my very good memories is when [info]loleia stepped in when AAHA was down, and made "donatation banners" for me to help get the site back up. I was really touched by that act of kindness!
