I haven't posted for a while. Like everyone else, I have been over at ning with Suzi and co.
I thought I would post this page from my art journal.

I finally went like this:

So now, I'm all enrolled in Suzi Blu's Les Petite Dolls! Very excited, thanks for encouraging me ^_^

Hello!
I've been away for a while (archaeology field school- quite excellent), but am now getting back into art journaling. I got a new journal right before I left that's small and compact, so I can carry it around with me. I love that I can finally use it, after a month or so of leaving it behind. It's so shiny and pretty, and looks like a real live book(as opposed to my converted sketch pad I was using before)!
I love Suzi's latest video blog! Are any of you taking her class? It sounds like such fun. I would take it, but I have too many other things going on right now (I'm getting ready to go to school for an abroad year, trying to save money, etc). However, once I get into the swing of things a bit more I'm thinking of getting one of those kits (if they're still left?), to get my feet really wet with layering etc. Whenever I try to layer or collage I get carried away with hand-drawing/painting etc. I forget that I have many materials I can work with!

Hmm. I guess there are more pictures than I had anticipated. I get so behind on actually scanning stuff, and then I'm excited about it all at once. Sorry!
Anyway, my next step is to stretch myself outside my comfort zone by making art that is not in my journal. Art in a format that makes it easy for other people to see? What? Perhaps I'll even break out a canvas or frame or something...I'm also planning to work on a comic strip for my boyfriend. We'll see.

ARRRRRR!! I am quite pleased with this one, apart from of course the mandatory acerbic self criticism and doubt that plagues me. *sigh*
No I actually like this piece, I just feel a bit crappy (and that taints my whole view of the world and everything in it) because I was sketching some faces and they didn't come out very well.
I'm pleased with the way the skin turned out (this was done pre Suzi Blu's class, so I feel quite proud) and the parrot. And I love the colour of the background. I feel like I could've improved on the layering on the background though, it all looks rather flat. |

I actually tried my hand at this 'layering' business. I'm pretty pleased with the result!
The idea for this painting started when I found a bunch of slides and wanted to do something with them. I sketched the girl and sheep when I was on holiday in Wales (how appropriate).
Materials used (LOADS! I'm sure I can't remember all): Slides, plastic embellishments, acrylic paint, Mod Podge, scrapbook paper, tissue paper, beeswax, embossing powder, stickers, thread/wool |

Hi everyone, my name is Hannah & I'm seventeen.
I'm totally new to this community & just thought I'd post a photo of one of my most recent journal pages, and a video I made earlier this year.
"Just thought I'd let you in on some of my journal pages, some of the things I love about life."
I'm on to my second art journal these days. I can't paint/draw for nuts, but I LOVE cutting up and gluing things and putting my happy bright colours onto paper.
I don't really follow Suzi's classes, per se, but her videos are a huge inspiration for me. I can't quite remember how I got started with art journalling, but I think it was after watching some of her videos for the first time. :)
I look forward to having a look at some of your creative masterpieces, my fellow-suzi-blu-fans!

OK so you can barely make it out, but I sketched a pirate girl & parrot. Sketching is the scariest phase for me. After that it becomes more like playing with paints and other materials!

I was inspired to paint and then I thought of this poem that I love...so I included it.
Not that great of a picture but I used lots of mediums. Oil pastels, chalk pastels, paint, fresco flakes, newspaper, modge podge and wax paper!!! It was a lot of fun.
Maybe it's like this - - if you don't have wax, use waxed paper - or maybe not.

| Walking the dog |

I got this idea when hubby and I took our dogs for a walk. I started out with a flat painting but didn't like it because there just wasn't anything really exciting about it. I added a lot of texture to the background by paining paper towel, tearing it up and layering it on the paper. I then took a paper doll that I had made and added her on top. I used brown velour paper to make the dog. The dog's collar and leash are gold fiber. The little house is a button. The butterflies are sequins, The clouds are very fluffy made of sparkle flakes (the type of stuff you buy at Christmas time to make snow). The flower and leaf are 3 dimensional. and she as a large glass bead at the top of her dress. I used a lot of glitter glue, pearl ex, and shinny mod podge to give her a lot of sparkled and shine. There is a shadow of leaves at the top of the painting.

Just the thought of hearing that Hummers are going "Mean" instead of "Green" makes me angry. Why do all these soccer moms need this car? Argh. This is what inspired this journal entry. It's not the best I've done but it's how I was feeling.

I finished my canvas. In all fairness, i don't work due to ill health, so I paint instead and have had much more time than anyone else. I decided on Bat Faeries, because I think they're rather sweet, and sassy.
I under-painted the skin in white, then painted the skin in fast drying oils, added the clothing, and then darkened in the background a bit more. then put more stencils over the background after it was all done.
I find it hard to paint the figures with the background 'around' them. I wish I could because it makes the whole thing look more 'together'. I usually do the background first, then decide what the colour of the figures or whatever are going to be.
I was going to sandpaper the figures slightly for the aged look, but I'm too chicken! I don't want to spoil them. Maybe they'll go on EBay, once I've stopped wishing I had a cute boyfriend like that.

As inspired by ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) immodica's previous post, I took my canvas and attacked it with gusto! Here's the three stages:
First I just used watercolour crayons, then glued on tissue paper and newspaper, two favourites! Then I coated with acrylics and added stencils, and then I painted over it AGAIN, and sandpapered the whole thing.
(I'm carrying a little anger at the moment due to new UK laws being put forward, so I sandpapered quite brutally. lol)
Anyway, I was aiming for something that looked 'aged' and it looks a little better in real life than through my scanner. If slightly muddy, but then I can always paint over the whole thing and start again. I need to draw something out to paint on it now, and I want crackle medium! I'm penniless so I'll write an early letter to Santa :s

I was looking through this community, and I just realised that although this is really for discussing Suzi's Video art classes, it's become even more than that lately. Such a nurturing place for any of us to post our art. It's so heartening because nobody is made to feel inadequate or nervous.
So I just wanted to thank you guys, it's one of the nicest communities on LJ. |
