Hi gang.
Some of you may know me, some of you not. I've been the other half who's been manning the ship on over in lj_textmessage for well into 5 years now. Wow, I didnt even realize it was that long until just now.. I must be insane. :)
At any rate, I'm now over here (I just found out about this comm) and will help out as best I can. If there's anything I do know, it's the 43290564026 carriers out there. That alone can drive one a little crazy!

| Handling Request For New Text Messaging Providers |
[Jun. 9th, 2005|09:43 am] |
One sort of request we are now dealing with is users requesting new text messaging providers added to LJ. If they have just opened a request and not provided the needed details you will need to refer them to FAQ #30 "What is the text messaging feature? How do I use it?". You will want to direct them to the "REPORTING PROBLEMS AND REQUESTING ADDITIONS" section which describes the information we need to add a provider. Please remember to stress the fact that they should not include their actual phone number when providing this information.
Once the user has provided this information, it will need to be moved into Zilla. I2s and SHs should be the ones doing this, pending thier knowledge of Zilla. Open the bug in the "LiveJournal" product and "Text Messaging" component. Please make sure you select "current" for the version. Include the link to the request in the URL field, make sure it is assigned to idigital, cc myself at david[at]sixapart.com, and then paste the information about the provider into the body of the bug. When aproving a response to the user thanking them for this information, include a link to the Zilla bug in the IC. Do not however give the Zilla link to the user. Pennyroyalist wrote a good response for this:
Thank you for your interest in using LiveJournal's text messaging feature. The text message development team will be notified with the information that you have provided. You may be contacted by the text message development team and asked for assistance with testing, which will likely consist of recieving text messages and providing feedback regarding the results.
Let me know if you have any questions.
idigital feel free to interject your own opinion on this matter if you feel something may work better another way. |

| Phone Post Numbers |
[Jun. 9th, 2005|09:14 am] |
We should be getting an updated list of phone post numbers within the next day or so. I do not believe many current numbers are changing, rather more being added.
If a user opens a request in regards to a phone post number not working, disconnected or no longer in service messages, please ask them the number that they tried. We are unable to try and fix this problem if we do not know which numbers are not working. Either tag the request with a [d] or drop me an email with the number. Thanks. |
