Fan fiction, art, and vids for the CW show, "Supernatural".
Caveat Lector - Let the Reader Be Aware:
Supernaturalfic allows fiction and art postings of all ratings, and community members should be aware Adult material of a violent and/or sexual nature of varying degrees of suggestiveness or explicitness may be posted here. The moderators do not, in general, moderate for content although we try to make a reasonable attempt at making sure spoilers and graphic images an text are kept behind a cut tag -- however, tolerable graphicness in either images or text is entirely subjective. Comm members are reminded to contact one of the comm moderators if they have specific concerns.
Statement of Purpose: Supernaturalfic encourages authors, artists, and vidders to post and attempts to make the approval process as smooth and fast as we can. We also maintain an extensive and searchable (to the limits LJ allows) archive through memories and tags, and many of the rules and standards are geared toward making Supernaturalfic a long-term resource for readers to be able to find work, not just as it is posted, but weeks and months and even years later. We encourage community members who post here to make their stories as easy for readers to access as possible, including but not limited to interlinking parts of multi-chaptered stories, keeping headers neat and uncluttered, and clearly labeling their work so as to make it easy for readers who like what they write to find them, read them, and hopefully, lavish them with praise.
Content Flags
The comm is defaulted to Adult Concepts. If your own settings are set to allow you to see the widest variety of postings on LJ, and you are over 18 by your registration birthdate (or failing that, your profile birthdate, seen or unseen) you should be fine. If you are not over 18, or you have set your own viewing options to moderate filtering, you're going to see a lot of LJ imposed cuts.
People who submit here can adjust the flags on individual postings, much like selecting an icon or a mood theme. Since the community is defaulted to Adult Concepts if you write Gen, you need to make sure your content is set or defaults to No Adult Content in your post.
Yes, gen writers are going to have to change their settings if they want their work viewable to the widest range of readers.
Likewise, if you have not only adult but explicit content, you will need to change your individual post settings to explicit. Explicit includes sex, violence, language, etc.
That said, this is being requested on a voluntary basis -- mostly because as mods, we can neither see nor alter the settings on anyone's posts but our own. We do not and can not police this unless LJ makes some code changes, but the new flag sets can be used by any logged-in user to have a flag set for content higher than the one you yourself would choose.
We ask that members comply with this in the hopes that the entire comm doesn't get flagged by outside visitors as Explicit Adult Content, when less than a third of the material posted here falls into that category
Respectfully, ~your mods

Comm Posting Standards:
The comm moderators can all be reached by appending @livejournal.com to their user names or by writing to us at supernaturalfic@gmail.com.
1. Announcements*, ficsearchs, fic requests, fic challenges, discussions about the show, the characters, or the actors, meta, and introduction posts are NOT ALLOWED.
* Some exceptions of general interest to the Supernatural Fan Community may be allowed at the discretion of the mods. i.e. we have allowed the posting of the Announcement for the Sweet Charity Fundraiser, and other communities of broad interest. Please contact the moderators at supernaturalfic@gmail.com. In general, narrow focus community announcements (such as challenge communities, or single character comms,) have not been allowed. Announcements of single user journals are not allowed, such as love memes or a user setting up a separate icon journal.
What is allowed? As long as it pertains directly to Supernatural:
Fan art (including icons, but not screen cap posts or picspams)
Fan fiction of all genres and ratings
Fan made vids
Fan poetry
Recs of stories, art & vids (Needs a description beyond "read/see/watch this")
Audio casts of fiction (with the original author's permission) 2. Posting: This community is moderated to help the mods organize the memories. Most posts will go through on the same day they are posted, or shortly after. Because of this, and becasue of LJ content flagging feature, we require submissions to be formatted uniformly.
3. Formatting: If you are posting fiction directly into the comm, please use standard fonts. Not small, not bold. The same for your headers. If you've customized your journal to handle specialized formatting, please remember, this comm is not configured like your journal.
Please PREVIEW your submission. Bad formatting, including but not limited to stray html tags, bad cut tags, overly large or overly small fonts, will cause your post to be rejected.
4. Fiction Submissions:
In your subject line, you are already required to post the Title, Part# (if applicable - 1/1 does not need to be there, 3/? does), Rating, Pairing/Characters, in that order.
If you are submitting fiction do not preface the title or anything else with FIC, SPNFIC, NEW STORY, or anything else. We will reject the submission and make you change it. This is an SPN comm -- we know what fandom you are posting to.
There is a character limit on subject lines and an even more restrictive character limit on the memory function. If you have a really long title, we suggest your shorten it for the Subject Line only. Do not put your name in the subject line, that's what the tags are for. (Not to mention your name shows up on your icon). You may put, after the TITLE, PART#, RATING, PAIRING/CHARACTERS, other information like xover, or kink, or kidfic, or deathfic, whatever you can fit.
So, Your subject line should look like this:
The Essence of Being, 1/6, R, Dean/Sam, xover Buffy Special Note: If your headers include spoilers, please note that after the pairing/characters.
Header Information: in the post body please use the following header template: Title: even if it's "Untitled" and including part # - if applicable Series: (If Applicable) Rating: (a range that says R-NC17 will be archived under the higher rating. The ratings already established are G, PG, PG13, R, NC17, Adult, No Rating) Pairing/Characters: Notes/Disclaimers/Summary: If the piece is episode related, that's good to know. All Spoilers belong below a cut, with a warning for them in your subject line. 5. Art, Vid and Other Submissions: In the subject line, preface your title with VID, ICONS, ART, AUDIO, MULTIMEDIA, or whatever short descriptor you can use. Then the title, then the Rating, if applicable. Character information is optional. For Audiofiles or Podcast, use the title and the original author's name.
VID: Promise to Be Kind, PG13, Dean & Sam
ART: Character study, R, Sam ICONS: 20+ from Dead in the Water AUDIO: The Killing Moon by Poisontaster, NC17, Dean/Sam, MPREG Vidders: Please remember that in order to be tagged or archived, you must provide a permanent link (or permanent access such as a request post) to your work. If all you offer is filesharing, you won't be given a tag or archived, regardless of how many vid files you've posted here. Permanent includes youtube and immeem and similar sites as well as your own (or someone else's webhost)
6. Ratings & Warnings
Ratings - Use them. Seriously. LJ has pretty much tied our hands on this one.
Because of the nature of this show, incest!fic will happen. Please label all your fiction and art with the appropriate ratings and warnings. This applies to language, sex, underage sex, excessive violence and gore. Also, remember to note any episode spoilers that may be in your story or art. Spoilers should always go below a cut tag, including character names if applicable. Ratings should apply to the story in its entirety, not just the part you are posting.
INCEST should always be clarified by including the EXACT PAIRING, such as Sam/Dean, John/Dean or John/Sam. The accepted ratings on Supernaturalfic are defined as:
- Adult (MA) - Mature Adult. Used for themes and may or may not be graphic or explicit in any way.
- NC17 - Not suitable for those 17 and under (Graphic, Explicit violence or sex. Also, we know that's not in line with the MPAA, but the 18+ tag would require that we re-archive some 2500 stories. Not happening, sorry.)
- R - Restricted for Content, similar to "Adult" but includes graphic or explicit content and most likely harsh language. If there is language or topics you wouldn't hear in polite conversation, use this rating.
- PG13 - suitable for those 13 and above
- PG - Parental Guidance is probably a good idea (i.e. if you'd want to ask a kids parents before showing them something, even though you, yourself, may think it's fine.)
- G - suitable for ALL audiences. (Do not confuse this with GEN which is a genre description like Slash or Het. Gen can be violent or graphic, what it doesn't contain, is any romantic or sexual relationship themes.)
[no rating/unrated] Fiction marked "No Rating" or "Unrated" will be reviewed on an individual basis. Please contact the mods at supernaturalfic@gmail.com if you have questions.
The moderators reserve the right to adjust the rating on a work for purposes of archiving and in the subject line only, so please don't rate something PG and then proceed to open the story with a graphic sex scene. If you feel your story may have some themes not suited for kids, but doesn't really deserve an R or NC17 rating, please use the Adult rating -- which indicates the reader needs a certain maturity.
No other rating systems will be accepted. Not T for Teen or FRMA (Fan Rated Mature Adult). We know they are out there, we aren't using them, and they aren't in the memory category.
7. Real Person Fic (RPF/RPS) is welcome in this community, but it must be labeled as such. As always, include a disclaimer. Any fic that includes Jensen or Jared is accepted.
8. Archiving:
You can find the archive [[here]]. A lot of work goes into making work posted to this comm accessible even long after it has been posted. You can find out more about the archiving system here and here.
Please don't link to a friends-locked entry, as the post will be deleted.
9. Tags
We are eliminating all tags but the Author/Vidder/Artist tags by name and one tag for Mod Posts which will be renamed ADMIN. Most of the tags duplicate what's already in the memory system and while you can't combine memory categories like you can tags, we've got fewer limits there.
We have a 1,000 tag limit. We've used about half, and that's not even taking into consideration that a good many authors here haven't requested a tag at all. Comm members with less than 3 submissions will be defaulted to a generic alphabetical listing. On the fourth submission you can request a tag. If you have posted more than three submissions, now would be a good time to go back and tag all your work. We'll give you guys some time to do this...about a week or so. At that point, anyone that currently has a tag that has less than 4 submissions will be retagged under the alpha system.
Vidders and Artists will be tagged for less than four tags under an aggregate: Vidder:A-D, Vidder:E-H, etc. Vidders: Please remember that in order to be tagged or archived, you must provide a permanent link (or permanent access such as a request post) to your work. If all you offer is filesharing, you won't be given a tag or archived, regardless of how many vid files you've posted here. Permanent includes youtube and immeem and similar sites as well as your own (or someone else's webhost)
