Power
Our apologies for LiveJournal being down.

Please, don't listen to any rumors about KGB shutting it down, it being moved, etc. Those are all false. (And it wasn't just down for Russia... it was down for the whole world.)

The reason is because we lost power at the data center. Then when power came back, we had to verify a lot of things before we could feel confident turning it all back on.

A more detailed post will be coming later. Again, sorry for the inconvenience. :-/

Our friends from California claim the power outage was related to the first strong Fall rain in Silicon Valley. If that is true, you should know that Soviet secret services in the past sought world domination using a weather machine.

This incident may turn Russian LJ community to think more optimistic of SUP–6Apart cooperation and cut down apocalyptic attitude. You guys could implement a redundancy scheme to keep Russian journals up and running even in case of power outage in California. This could be really great.
I understand some important functionality cannot be redundantized since you don't want all the journals replicated to KGB servers, right? ;) but still the basic lj functionality can be made more reliable.

Этот случай вполне может изменить настроения вокруг СУПа на более лояльные и оптимистичные. Если грамотно реализовать резервирование сервиса, то в будущем русские журналы будут сохранить функциональность даже в случае выхода из строя калифорнийских серверов. Если бы СУП и Six Apart реализовали такую схему – вот был бы им почет и уважуха.
Понятно, что полностью функциональность сохранить не удастся, поскольку о репликации всех данных на СУПовые сервера речи все-таки не идет. Но базовую функциональность вполне можно обеспечить. Я не удивлюсь даже, что кто-то из американцев захочет повариться в супе ради такого резервирования.

I think that people migght like to know WHY LJ-blackouts always happen after some crucial deals are finished. First blackout happened to happen right after Danga and LJ were sold to Six Apart...
