Title
Rename Tokens!

Short, concise description of the idea
Just longitivity with your LJ account could lead to certain rewards.

Full description of the idea
As above but extra bonuses such as rename tokens for customers who've been on here for a certain time. Just because it seems quite pricey just to change a small thing!

An ordered list of benefits
  • More loyality
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • I think it should still be limited to maybe one change a year or likewise if given as a gift, otherwise constant changes would occur which aren't necessary.

Title
Renaming an existing account

Short, concise description of the idea
More information should be given before a rename token is purchased.

Full description of the idea
So I just spent $12 on a rename token not knowing that the username I wanted was too long (by ONE character, but that's for another time). I didn't see anything about a character limit BEFORE I bought the rename token, I saw it AFTER when I went to change my username.

It's been about 4 years since I registered for LJ, so you can't possibly expect me (or others for that matter) to remember the character limit for that long a period of time. Basically, all I'm asking, is that you add this little tid-bit of information somewhere (like on "the Account Renaming Service" page for instance) so that people KNOW how long their usernames can be BEFORE they spend money on a rename token that they can't get a refund for. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Well, you'd have at least one less aggravated member, and it really shouldn't take that long to add it...it could be something like "usernames have a limit of 15 characters"; if I could edit LJ like a Wikipedia, I'd do it myself. :P
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Erm, well since I'm just asking you all to include more information for something, I can't really see what problems it could cause...

Title
Merging accounts

Short, concise description of the idea
Merging past livejournal accounts into a new one.

Full description of the idea
I happen to have many different livejournal accounts some going back to 2003 and I always wanted to merge all the accounts into one super account so all of my past entries would be in one simple journal. I tend to go back and read them every so often, and I would really enjoy to have them all in one journal.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Having all entries in one place
  • Being able to keep your friends page and contacts
  • Not having to back through different accounts to find a certain entry
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Your friends may became confused by the new user name

Title
Longer Usernames

Short, concise description of the idea
Allow longer usernames when creating a new account.

Full description of the idea
Currently, the username length is limited to 15 characters. Longer usernames will allow new users to be more creative with their names, without resorting to increasingly complicated combinations of numbers and letters.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Allow more users to get the exact name they would like
  • Effectively more namespace
  • Yahoo, for example, allows 32 characters, Blogger allows 50 characters
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Global changes for username field length in Database, code
  • More disk space consumed
  • Slightly more bandwidth consumed
  • Usernames may be more difficult to key in by hand
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Perhaps even 20 characters would be a good balance between more username space and not much increase in resource consumption
  • Changing this to a length that is comfortable will prevent the need for more future changes
