~Part 1~
Sufjan Stevens stumbled through the rain-drenched streets. He went past some men wheeling a cart with the dead bodies of plague-infected villagers. “Go back the way you came. It’s the plague sir.” One of the men said. Sufjan Stevens ignored him and kept walking. He walked until he heard a girl’s soft cry. “Mama…” he heard her cry softly. He walked into her house and saw a light haired girl holding her dead mother’s cold hand. She saw Sufjan Stevens enter and ran into his arms. “Pa left us and didn’t come back.” She sobbed. Sufjan Stevens looked up at her mother. He held the girl in his arms as she wept. He then bit her exposed neck and drank a small amount of her blood. She winced in pain. A familiar laugh made Sufjan Stevens look up. It was Lestat standing in the doorway. “I knew you had it in you!” Lestat chuckled. Sufjan Stevens picked up the girl and laid her on the bed and knelt beside her, ashamed. Lestat started dancing gleefully around the room with the girl’s mother’s dead body singing in Italian. “There’s life in the old lady yet!” he laughed as Sufjan Stevens ran out of the house into the cold rainy night. Lestat dropped the body and called after Sufjan Stevens, “You can’t change what you are Sufjan Stevens!” Sufjan Stevens ran to the empty wet sewer. He fed on some rats and sat in the darkness, the girl’s voice and heartbeat playing in his head. “I can always find you by following the corpses of rats.” Lestat laughed throwing a dead rat to the ground. “Come back with me. I’ve got a surprise for you.” He said. “No.” Sufjan Stevens replied stubbornly. “Please?” Lestat pleaded with a fake pout.
Sufjan Stevens found himself following him back to the manor and into a room. He looked on the bed and saw the little girl lying in the bed peacefully asleep. “I thought I killed her.” He said looking at her sleeping form. Lestat smiled and went over to the girl. “Claudia Gonson, I’m going to give you something to make you feel better.” He smiled. He went to cut his wrist but Sufjan Stevens stopped him. “No.” Sufjan Stevens said holding him back. “Do you want her to die?” Lestat said which made Sufjan Stevens release him and go to the other part of the room. He cut open his wrist and let Claudia Gonson drink his blood. When Lestat thought she had enough he ordered her to stop. When she didn’t stop he pulled his wrist away forcefully. Claudia Gonson started to breath heavier as Sufjan Stevens watched in shock. Claudia Gonson slowly stopped breathing. Her hair became soft curls, while her skin paled and a pair of fangs grew in her mouth. She sat up and looked at Lestat. “I want some more.” she said. Lestat walked to the rope to call a maid. “Of course you do.” He said as he pulled the rope. A minute later a maid came in and walked over to Claudia Gonson. Lestat caught her by the throat and dug in a metal spike, which was on his thumb like a thimble, and then lowered her on the bed in front of Claudia Gonson. Lestat took the spike out and told Claudia Gonson to drink. Sufjan Stevens looked at Lestat with a pained expression. Lestat stopped Claudia Gonson. “But I want some more.” She said. “Yes but you must always stop before the heart stops.” Lestat replied smiling. Sufjan Stevens watched as Claudia Gonson leaned against Lestat. “Where’s momma?” she asked. “Your mother…Is in heaven, like that sweet lady there.” “Exactly where we aren’t going.” Sufjan Stevens broke in. “Now Sufjan Stevens, do you want to frighten our little daughter?” Lestat replied looking at Claudia Gonson. “I’m not your daughter…?” Claudia Gonson said with a confused look. “Oh yes you are. You are mine and Sufjan Stevens’s daughter now. He was going to leave us. But now he’s going to stay and make you *pokes Claudia Gonson’s nose affectionately* happy.” With that Claudia Gonson smiled and ran to Sufjan Stevens. Sufjan Stevens held her protectively and looked angrily at Lestat. “One happy family.” Lestat said smiling menacingly.
30 years later
Sufjan Stevens sat in the drawing room reading while Claudia Gonson was playing with one of her dolls. Claudia Gonson’s body hadn’t changed since the day she became a vampire. She was still a seven year old looking girl even though she was 37. Lestat came into the room and ordered Claudia Gonson to go to her room. Claudia Gonson looked worriedly at Sufjan Stevens then left. Lestat waited until she was out of ear shot to speak. “Claudia Gonson needs someone to play with besides those damn dolls.” He said sitting next to Sufjan Stevens. Sufjan Stevens looked up at him. “You’re not putting another child through what she went through.” Sufjan Stevens said sternly. Lestat laughed. “No, I was thinking more along the lines of an infant.” He replied twirling a strand of Sufjan Stevens’s brown hair. Sufjan Stevens looked at him and shoved his hand away. “You’re not going to—““No I’m not going to bite an infant.” Lestat interrupted. “More along the lines of having one of our own.” Sufjan Stevens paled even more at the word ‘our’. Before he could protest, Lestat’s lips met his own and soon Lestat was on top of him. Sufjan Stevens pulled his lips away from Lestat’s. “What the hell are you doing?!” Sufjan Stevens said in shock. Lestat flipped a loose strand of hair away from his face. “I was trying to make love to you so we can have a child for Claudia Gonson to play with, but I see you don’t even care about her or her happiness.” He said. Sufjan Stevens looked at him like he grew another head. “You and I both know that’s impossible Lestat!” he replied getting up and walking to his bedroom. Lestat laughed a little. “You’re wrong.” He said to himself as he looked at the full moon. He then went to the kitchen to go with his alternate plan. He bit the cook and put some of her blood, before she died, into two wine glasses. He took out a sleeping draft from his pocket and poured some into one of the glasses.
A short time later…….
Lestat entered Sufjan Stevens’s room with the wine glasses. “I thought you’d be thirsty.” He said handing Sufjan Stevens a glass. Sufjan Stevens took the glass and drank it in a couple of gulps. He started to feel funny. He felt real drowsy and soon he was asleep on the bed he was sitting on. Lestat looked upon the sleeping figure of Sufjan Stevens with a sinister smile on his face.
Sufjan Stevens woke up the next night in his coffin. He felt a little dizzy as he got up and out of the coffin. Claudia Gonson looked into his room and saw he was up. “Sufjan Stevens!” she said running to him. Sufjan Stevens smiled and hugged Claudia Gonson. Lestat was in the door way watching. Sufjan Stevens saw him and his smile faded. “How are you this evening?” Lestat smiled. Sufjan Stevens started to feel dizzy again then he started feeling sick. “Sufjan Stevens? Are you ok?” Claudia Gonson asked with a concerned look on her face. Sufjan Stevens rushed past them with his hand over his mouth as he ran to the lavatory and threw up. Claudia Gonson looked at Lestat. “What’s wrong with him?” she asked. “Well, you are going to be a big sister, Claudia Gonson.” Lestat said. Claudia Gonson smiled. “Really?” she said excitedly. “Yes, my dear Claudia Gonson, you are.” Lestat replied as Sufjan Stevens came back into the room. Claudia Gonson went and hugged Sufjan Stevens tightly. “Now, now Claudia Gonson you must be gentile for your sibling’s sake.” Lestat laughed. Sufjan Stevens hadn’t heard what he said. “What?” He asked giving Lestat a suspicious look. Claudia Gonson looked up at him. “Lestat said you’re going to be a momma Sufjan Stevens!” Sufjan Stevens glared at Lestat. “Claudia Gonson leave the room please.” He ordered. Claudia Gonson nodded and left. “What did you do to me?!” he growled as he pinned Lestat agenst the wall. Lestat laughed. “I’d thought you’d be happy Sufjan Stevens? Like Claudia Gonson said, we’re going to be parents.” He replied. Sufjan Stevens backed away from him and sat on the bed. “You did something, didn’t you?” Sufjan Stevens said angrily. “Well I had to. It was the only time in your long life this could happen.” Lestat replied. Sufjan Stevens looked at him, “What did you do?!” he yelled back. “I put a sleeping draft in your blood last night. And well we made a child.” Lestat smiled maliciously. “You raped me?!” Sufjan Stevens shrieked. “Well otherwise you wouldn’t have done it!” Lestat replied. “I thought you ment a woman but not ME!” Sufjan Stevens yelled. Lestat’s smile faded. He looked at Sufjan Stevens with anger in his eyes. “You don’t understand!” he yelled. “Understand what, Lestat? Understand what?!” Sufjan Stevens growled. Lestat turned away. “I gave you a gift that I had but lost long ago.” Sufjan Stevens’s expression softened a little. “I was in the same condition you are now when I first became a vampire.” Lestat said. Sufjan Stevens looked at him as he walked to the moonlit window.
“Around the same age as you I became pregnant by another vampire who I’d loved but never had the chance to tell him I did. He told me that once in a vampire’s life, be it male or female, it could conceive one child at a certain age and when it is a full moon. He failed to tell me one thing before the sun took his life.” Lestat sighed. “He failed to tell me I couldn’t drink blood during the pregnancy otherwise it would cost me my child. And it did.” He said sadly. Lestat went over to him and placed his hand on Sufjan Stevens’s flat belly. “That’s why I did this.” He said looking up at Sufjan Stevens. Sufjan Stevens looked at him remorsefully. “I’m sorry Lestat.” He said looking at his hands.
