Status Updates
Unfortunately, it's overwhelmingly clear that I won't be able to finish the Suburban Jungle 10-Year Collection in time to get it to the printer and back for Further Confusion, so I'm going to have to punt on that. Hopefully that'll be done by sometime in the spring.

The rest of the books, I'm sad to say, are almost all sold out. There's a small handful of stock rescued from the wreckage of Plan Nine, which I'll be taking with me to cons until it's gone. If you're looking for a particular one, e-mail me (thegneech@gmail.com) or

mammallamadevil (kerry@surfari.net) and we'll get you set up.

In other news, I received this year's crop of Christmas cards from the printer earlier this week and will be sending them out soon. :)

Random Bit of News
I started the 10-year Suburban Jungle retrospective collection tonight. Half the challenge is going to just finding all this stuff and getting it put into the right order. The oldest strips are on CD-ROM archives from the days when I used a Macintosh ... I have a feeling this is going to be a job for IsoBuster!

I have a feeling that hopes to have it printed in time for Further Confusion may be unduly optimistic ... but it's at least what I'm going to aim for!

I actually managed to get it done in time to get to the printer and mail it out before Christmas day! Will wonders never cease?

"The End" on Monday
I took off from work yesterday so I could actually get the strip drawn, there was no other way it was going to happen. However,

katayamma asked to have the weekend to work on coloring it "to the best of his ability," so it will actually go up on Monday.

I also found out yesterday that Spiritwalker, auction cameo winner and all-around swell guy, passed away in October after a long fight with cancer. So I would like to ask all SJ readers to raise a glass today in his honor.

Since Wikipedia's users seem inclined to delete their article on the comic, I've merged it with the one at WikiFur.

If anyone's up for improving the latter, feel free to give it a go. It could do with more pictures, for a start; you can upload some and add them to the article with [[File:Yourfilename.jpg|thumb|description]]. A more detailed plot summary would probably be useful, too.

Stress at work combined with nerve pain med withdrawal (not fun) have left me wiped out. Takin' the day off and hope to get some productive time in this weekend.

An Emotional Moment
I just marked "Scripts for SJ" off of my to-do list for the last time.

The last Suburban Jungle comic strip has been scripted.

It was hard. Not because it was difficult to script — I've had the plot outlined for months and the basic idea in my head for years — but because it was so hard to force myself to do it.

Suburban Jungle has been one of the key defining aspects of my life for ten years. To write "The End" and put the pencil down means that my life is changing in a big way. It's a good change, one I've been looking forward to for a long time, but even good change on this kind of scale is just plain scary.

I'm emotional, but not sad. It's like graduation day, there's just an enormous bundle of stuff flying around in my head. Something is ending, yes — but something else new and exciting is about to begin.

It's a big deal for me. Words can't really get it across. But I'm grateful to all of you who've stayed around and been patient to reach this point. The hard part, for me, is now done. The rest is all technical. Sitting at the table and converting my storyboards to pencil and ink can be time-consuming, yes, but it won't require me to overcome all the massive resistances put in to place by a subconscious trying to protect itself from change.

The shape of my whole world changed tonight. And it's scary. But it needs to be done.
