Little bit of mental illness wank going on in mock_the_stupid. stufro posts an article about a woman who died in a fit of road rage by ramming her car into another vehicle, then revving the engine until her tires wore down and the ensuing sparks set the brake fluid on fire. She proceeded to refuse help from a bystander, and died in the fire. The article mentions that the woman suffered from bipolar disorder.

There are a few comments about how the woman deserves a Darwin Award, and eventually super_loulou comes along and expresses disgust at the reactions of the community. According to iniadelphinae, though, mental illness is not an excuse, and the woman's actions were still stupid.

deannab draws a comparison to having bipolar disorder and using drugs and alcohol.

eternalism lets us know that "mood swings don't typically make one so damn idiotic." (After all, that's all bipolar is, right? Mood swings? I've gotten pretty crabby from PMS in my day, and I've managed not to incinerate myself!)

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that someone will call opalcat out on letting that post through, although I'm sure she'll try to claim she approved it so we could mock the OP.

I think if you want to die, then by all means die. So if my kiddo was over 18 I'd try to help, but I'm not going to go out of my way to make them stay alive against their wishes.

A few posters take exception to her, shall we say, dismissive tone, and she clarifies - sometimes making sense, but other times not.

All I know is I'm not here to babysit every single person who is suicidal. It is their body, not mine. If it's what they want so be it. I'd rather help people who want to live. There are a lot of worse things then to be some 18 year old with body issues living in the USA.

Oh, well, as long as other people have it worse, that's all right then.

If you know that not eating for long periods of time can kill you (which you should), you have doctors telling you it's killing you, and your organs are failing. Yes, then it is an attempt to end your life. If you don't want to die then you'll consent to feeding tube or you'll eat. It's only rational thinking.

Because people who look in the mirror and see a huge fat monster when in reality they weigh seventy pounds with ribs you could play like a xylophone are totally thinking rationally.

ramblng_tigress had a totally unforeseeable incident with her new kitten, and is now anguished over whether or not to return said kitten to the rescue from whence it came.

What happened? Well, it killed her friend's gerbil. While they were letting the cat and gerbil "play" together on the bed.

Really?!? A cat killed a rodent?!? Of course, it was a total accident and the cat "feels horrible, keeps crying, and is terrified of going anywhere near the other gerbils now." No projection here.

If you think it's silly to let a rodent and a cat hang out, you are heartless, because "the sterotype that felines should NEVER be allowed near rodents is bull."

She is considering returning it to the rescue because she is unsure as to his stability of personality, and if he would get aggressive with our other critters in the house. Clearly a cat attacking a rodent is a sign of a personality disorder.

Finally, she flips: "i am seriously SOOOO sick of people attacking me for shit ~I~ didn't even do! I posted in here because i needed to try and talk the whole fucking thing out with people who ~might~ understand how hard it is to lose a member of the household, and how to handle the entire situation - i did NOT come here for you to sit on your cheeky ass and watch you try and bring down your ever-so-tiny bitch hammer and try and destroy what little i have left of my emotions right now.. and all because you feel so shitty about yourself apparently, that you need to attack a grieving pet owner" People, it is emotionally draining to be this much of an idiot.

My roommates gerbil, George, had a grand mal seizure and died tonight...

we all feel awful about it

the new kitten we'd gotten was in her room, and she had George out... gerbil ended up on the bed... kitten grabbed it too hard.. gerbil got scared and then went still.. then had a seizure...

apparently, it hadn't been his first... he'd had an absent seizure just a short while earlier...

still doesn't make us feel any better about it.... or feel weird towards the kitten...

meanwhile, unnamed kitten feels horrible, keeps crying, and is terrified of going anywhere near the other gerbils now...

we can't figure out if the "sick" gerbil triggered a predatory instinct, or if it was suicide-by-kitten on the part of the gerbil

so now we have to decide what we're doing about it all... i called the women who was the foster for 10th chance (the organization we adopted through) and told her what happened... she said she fully understands if we want to bring him back... we told her we more than likely will... but we're all waffling on the whole thing, feeling terrible

we have till tomorrow afternoon to make a decision...

Canada has a major aboriginal poverty problem. As you might expect, this leaves a lot of aboriginal women to ply the oldest profession or otherwise struggle to get by. About 3000 of these women have gone missing, and the government doesn't seem to care.

Luckily, strbjun has the solution: if these people would just stick to well-lit areas, maybe they wouldn't get raped... besides, there will always be crime, so we should just get used to thousands of women going missing and nobody even noticing--I mean, at least we're not so bad as those middle-eastern places!

You know what the real problem is? It's those damned irresponsible women who keep hooking up with guys they meet in clubs. If prostitutes would stop having sex with people they just met, maybe they wouldn't die so much.

wow_ladies isn't one of my usual haunts. But a litte birdie sent me a link, and if I hurt? You hurt. It's bigotry wank with a little something for everyone. See, it seems martyrized really, really wants to be funny while she writes up her trip to preorder a Collector's Edition of the game. It's long and my brain started to twitch halfway through, so I'll just compress it down to "Racial stereotype, racial stereoptype, derogatory description, more derogatory descriptions, gratuitous use of the word queer, random ego stroking, mod freezes comments as wank starts to appear". Well...umm...I'm a bad dog owner. He can get in and out under the fence, so I just took his collar off of him so that I have deniability.
Even when he gets out he never leaves the front yard except to play with my neighbors kid...but if Animal Control picks him up, I can still say "He's not mine...he just hangs around and I let him stay since he's not hurting anything."
He's a stray that I adopted anyway...so if he sticks around, great. If not...*shrug*

In the already lolz-filled tragedy that is proanorexia, Dylan, the creepy 58-year old male Mod (not_this_planet has decided to start charging all of the underage anaz for membership under the guise that he is "saving their lives." Enraged, some intelligent debate starts up concerning the issue in the community ed_ucate.

If this sounds ethically wrong, cult-ish and/or messed up to any of us, it's only because he's shit at putting himself across in a way that makes him look good. Here is one example in which he is clearly trying to do good and just SEEMS like a complete dick, in which he suggests selling diet pills through proanorexia as a way to raise money to *~*~*save lives*~*~.

Enter king_josie, one of Dylan's proana followers, who stridently begins defending her cult leader at every opportunity.

Some of Dylan's controversial beleifs are brought to light, like his feelings on children and how restricting their calories is much better than a child developing full-blown anorexia. Another gem is that anorexia is all about the calories which brings to mind the idea that all an anorectic needs to do is eat a few cheeseburgers and POOF, all better!

It also appears that proana's fearless leader is anorexic himself, and clarifies his stupidity by saying I am 100% in denial of adverse health affects. Does that make me anorexic? Yes. Does it make me less healthy? No. Also I've got a BMI of 16.5, I've been clinically anorexic AND QUITE HEALTHY for over 30 years. Ah, genius at its best. When asked whether or not Dylan is qualified to be handling thousands of starving, miserable 13 year old anas, he replies I've got enough background in psychology that I can take an anorexic who is scared of food, and USING EMAIL ONLY, get them to a point where they WANT TO EAT and are willing to VOLUNTARILY INCREASE THEIR CALORIE LEVEL TO THE POINT OF OPTIMAL NUTRITION. Over in the booj, an article is posted about a man who heard noises coming from his daughter's bedroom and saw a stranger standing naked on the girl's bed. He swung a metal pipe. He then chased the teen out the front door and called police. The debate goes on to ask whether he should be charged or not.

liquorlyles believes that Yes, he should be charged. Assuming his daughter was not being raped and had consented to the sexual activity there is no reason he should have reacted that severely. He should have told the boy to leave his house and went and calmed down somewhere before talking to his daughter.

No matter how people try to explain that the dad was trying to protect his daughter, she refuses to accept it. But it's okay. 'I watch both my niece and nephew whom have lived with us for long periods of time, I am also pregnant with a child. Just because I would handle the situation without violence doesn't make me "wrong"'
