SAMMICHES ARE SERIOUS BUSINESS
coflower doesn't seem to like the word "sammiches". It's a perfectly cromulent word, but it seems to send her off into fits of anger-ridden comments.

Not once, but twice! In food_porn, a poor hapless poster happens to use the word "sammiches" in a post. Eagerly awaiting an opportunity to malign Rachael Ray, our dear coflower jumps in the fray.

But this is not the first time she has taken offence to a simple little word.

A few weeks back, your hapless heroine asked two simple questions, one regarding the aforementioned WORD. So I need to learn English lessons from her, because my two year old vocabulary is not good enough for her.

	I hate "sammich" too, jeeeez it just works my last fucking nerve I totally HATE THAT FAKE WORD, but I would never get pissed at anyone for using it. It's just one of those things I find irritating. It doesn't make the user stupid. (Reply to this) (Thread)

I can understand why you hate it (I'm the same with "guesstimate", god, I hate that fucking word), but it's really just about as "fake" as any other word. "Sammich" isn't lexically empty -- it has a mutually-understood meaning, usage rules, etc., just like its more well-established cousins. Consider that quite a few of the words we use today are slurred/abbreviated versions of older words, like fancy (from fantasy) and hussy (from huswif (housewife)).

	Sammich is one of those words I actually use out loud, consistently. I've had more reactions indicating they found it cute/endearing than irritating. Besides, I love my peanut butter and honey sammiches. (Reply to this) (Thread)
