I had to look it up to see what you were talking about, and it appears that there are people who think I let that post through just to make fun of the guy. I didn't. And I wasn't even making fun of the guy, I was just trying to wrap my head around warm milk + sugar, and was legitimately curious since I'd never heard of it, so I made a comment. (Turns out it wasn't even what he was drinking--the unmentioned extra ingredient was chocolate!) I let the post through because the whole salt story, as posted and intended, was funny. Seems some people are trying to make me out as some other-culture-hater or something, because I expressed confusion over something I hadn't heard of before. It's not like once it was explained to me I said anything bad about it. Heck, as soon as he said "I'm from Singapore, that's how we drink it here" I was prepared to accept that. (Then, of course, it turned out that it was actually hot chocolate by a different name.) I have no problem with cultural differences, but I also hardly think I can be expected to automatically know about all of them, nor do I think is a crime to be surprised by things that are different (especially when you don't realize the person is even from another culture, which I didn't at the time I made the original comment).

Sorry that was so long, but I have a compulsive need to not be misunderstood.

In the UK mobile phones are supplied at a very heavily subsidised price. If you're getting a new contract or renewing one you can usually get a brand new model for free. Even pay-as-you-go phones are subsidised by the phone companies because they'll be recouping the money from the calls you make. Phones that would cost £350 ordinarily can usually be got for free on contract or £100 on PAYG.

Also, paying a little more for a new cell phone that you need to make phone calls anyway is different than paying a lot of money for a camcorder.

Wow the OP's mate was a whole load of stupid. I sell phones (for my sins. I will be getting a new job sometime) and he wants the 8800, that is the crappest phone for your money ever. This truly proves that people will buy anything if it looks pretty enough. I wouldn't mind so much but this is the second genration 8800 and it is still not even half as good as most of the other top range Nokias. Just sleek. Some people's vanity, shudder.
