Fucking Hipsters, Part Ten Billion Six
Some awesome person posts about a college grad being assaulted by some black teen girls for wearing a shirt that says "Obama is a Slave" and then threatening to sue the person who made it because it ended up having her get accosted by people for some wacky reason which she didn't foresee. Some dumb people start replying about how it's so criminal for the girls to push and spit at someone for wearing "just a shirt" and that no one should be harmed for just expressing their "political beliefs." Along with that, if you think it's okay for some black people to assault someone for being racist, then you should support the KKK for attacking black people and anti-abortionists for bombing clinics. And beyond all that, it's "just a shirt."
Links to specific statements when my head stops spinning.
Time to Break it Down:
This isn't in chronological order as much as threadological order.
Keep in mind I'm also cherry picking the ones I find good. It seems clear that some people here think it's amazingly stupid to be comfortable with someone wearing the tshirt being physically assaulted (by any means, from a push to a punch to being spat at), but really I can't just post each time someone says it, because I want to actually finish writing this.

"She assaulted the teenagers first. What they did was self defense." [Laptop's note: I was being just a tad sarcastic there because I knew the thread was going to get stupid, but yes it was stupid to say and people in this post said so. CAN'T BE TOO BIASED GUYS]
"No one has a right to physically accost someone because of HOW THEY LOOK. Duh. I'm sure you believe women who wear short skirts deserve to be raped too."
"It's really really worrisome to live in a city where people think it's totally acceptable to beat someone up because of political disagreement." [Laptop's note: Political Disagreement = Disagreeing that Obama is a slave]
"Wait, are you saying it was a bad deal for the plantation owners? Were the ones who eschewed slaves more successful? It is important to consider the motives of both sides. People use slaves when it makes sense to do so. There's nothing evil about noting that."
"it's just that sometimes people are quick to cry racism (as, for example, in these comments). they may be interpreting as racism things/actions that aren't racist at all. i don't think it would be fair to say that whatever one interprets as racism IS racism. right?"
"why can't i make a judgment call about what's racist and what isn't? i'm Jewish and such a t-shirt does not offend me."
"The phrase "I hate crackers" never killed anyone."
"I'm saying that it might be healthy for society to accept the existence of racist people, without feeling the need to violently intimidate them from time to time. It seems to me that most racists have pretty much accepted that they live in an anti-racist society -- the penalties for being openly racist (in terms of political options, career options, etc.) are much lower than those for being very anti-racist (e.g. Michelle Obama can make six figures as a 'diversity coordinator', but I don't think any similar company, even in the Deep South, will be hiring a 'Racial Uniformity Coordinator' any time soon).
I really don't see why it's so troublesome to make edgy jokes that might not even be jokes. Again, that has never killed anyone -- what does kill people is the inability to relax about this stuff."
"I don't understand what's crazy about accepting that not everybody agrees with you. I've been yelled at for being white. I've been mugged (I was not the only person on the block, just the only white person). I have been refused service at restaurants catering to other ethnic groups. I don't feel victimized by any of this -- that's just how folks are -- but I do think it's silly to deduce from my open-minded attitude that I've never considered this issue."
"If you think race is arbitrary, but someone in Sunset Park doesn't want to serve the smelly guai lo, why does your belief trump theirs?"
